Had the $ 2 chicken curry and spicy ramen. Both were yummy! I usually am able to finish my entire bowl of ramen but I was so full. Things I love: They let you take it to go. NO ramen places in Nashville let you take it to go. They refuse and its written on all their menus so this was a thumbs up Things I did not love: 1. Inattentive waiter. He didn’t check on me once. Had to ask another waiter for water several times. 2. When you take the food to go, they put it in a small container and whatever can’t fit gets thrown out. Not cool! 3. Waiter gave me a $ 10 bill in change instead of breaking it into smaller bills for the tip. He was not getting a $ 10 tip from me off of $ 10 ramen. Especially after the poor service Food was good. Will return.

Delicious food, especially the different noodles. In the three or four times I’ve gone there, I’m always satisfied. The only thing I wish would improve is the speed of the service when the manager is not there. Getting seated is fine, but it shouldn’t take over five minutes to only be asked if we’d like to start with something to drink. There are only two other tables with patrons. The same thing happened later. No one came by to check while we were eating or after we were done. We waited so long that I ended up stacking our dishes and the trays. More minutes passed by, so we eventually went up to the counter to get our check. The staff is incredibly slow, but at least they’re professionally friendly. I will be back, for sure because everything on their menu is so good. In the future, as soon as I need or want something, I’ll just call out instead of waiting. I suggest others do the same.

The Japanese curry was spot on. It is very similar to what I remember eating growing up in Japan. My daughter loved the miso ramen, and chicken karaage curry bowl. Who would have thought we’d find such a fantastic place in Newark, DE during a hockey tournament? I hope another is scheduled here so I have an excuse to go back to the restaurant.

Probably one of the best I’ve had and I’ve been around the ramen block Got the tonkatsu and its all u can ask for, good broth, good pork and a nice healthy portion And the décor and vibes are legit too, swung by during lunch at work. Got in and out in less than an hour

Best ramen noodles I had in years, definitely among the best in North America! Everything from the noodle to the soup broth were perfect 10! The pork bun is perfectly prepared that can melt in your mouth!

My first time at a ramen house! Staff was very friendly and they even explained the menu since it was our first time there. The food was absolutely delicious! I really loved the Onigiri, pork buns and the miso ramen! I would definitely go back really soon!

I’ve been coming to Ramen Kumamoto ever since it opened, and have had many great meals within these walls. Main Street too often panders to the bland tastes of the average White American palate, with authentic world cuisine hard to come by and sterilized Americanized eateries like El Diablo springing up left and right. The food carts and a select few Middle Eastern restaurants can claim respectable authenticity, but Ramen Kumamoto is even closer to the real deal. The staff has changed recently, but the newcomers are figuring it out. Service is generally prompt, but if you want something, ask for it. Appetizers here are worth every bite. The takoyaki, octopus cooked in balls of batter, is a favorite of mine, but let them cool off before you bite down. The charshu onigiri, a rice ball with pork in it, is delicious. The gyoza are good, and the sauce used on the chicken in the slider buns is exclusive to that item. Ramen is the focal point of the establishment, and fittingly, the Kumamoto cooks make it well. The miso ramen is a more advanced flavor, while the mayu ramen is robust in its seasonings. My favorite is the tonkotsu ramen; the pork falls apart as your stir the contents of the bowl, and there’s plenty of ginger, bean sprouts, mushrooms and bamboo shoots to make each bite a delectable flavor combination of your choosing. Outside the noodle sphere, there are two other main course dishes I recommend. The karaage chicken curry is a delight, with delicious pieces of chicken breast served alongside white rice and a lovely curry.(When I get ramen, I like to add the side mini curry bowl for an extra $ 2.) Finally, the dish I consider to be Ramen Kumamoto’s greatest achievement, is the charshu don. This rice bowl is topped with Japanese pork, pickled radish, and scallions. The meat is soft, with an out-of-this-world taste. For drinks, I like the lychee Calpico and the melon Ramune. I hear they may be getting a liquor license someday, which is certainly worth looking forward to. The green tea mochi for dessert is also recommend. Ramen Kumamoto hits the spot.

Food 4⁄5 Service 2⁄5 The staff is usually standing around talking to each other and seems untrained. Don’t expect anyone to come by and refill your glass of water. Shame because the food is delicious.

Ramen was very good. Many broth options. Two vegetarian ramen options. Pork buns were just ok. Kid friendly. My kids love ramen(big fans of Chuko in Brooklyn) and this place was up there. They were crazy about the gyoza & the ramen. They made kid chopsticks for my 7 year old. Both of my kids got the funny Japanese sodas with the ball inside. I had the Japanese mango soft drink, which I didn’t love, but my kids loved. There’s no alcohol. I’m deciding between and 4&5 star review(the 4, instead of 5 stars due to no alcohol and not many vegetarian appetizers) BUT the owner was super nice so 5 it is. We’ll be back next time we we’re in town!

The ramen here is amazing. This was hands down a good meal. It’s a cute sit-down place with a menu selection focusing on ramen and udon. The service here is great and I can’t wait to come back

My daughter and I love noodle bowls! As a die hard fan of the Vietnamese noodle bowls, it was hard for us to try ramen noodles. I had it in my mind it would be like the ramen noodles you buy at the grocery store, full of sodium and cheap. Boy was I wrong! We came across this place and it was just ok. I ordered the pork bowl with a fish cake and egg, my daughter ordered a chicken ramen bowl. For the appetizer we had a seaweed rice concoction which the best thing we ate at the restaurant. The service was friendly, but the broth was not as flavorful as the ones we have had. I had pieces of berkshire pork in my bowl and it lacked taste. My daughter also felt the same way about her bowl. Lacked flavor. I am not sure if I will be back.

You come here for the ramen. We started off with Edamame, Pork Buns, Tempura Shumai, Seaweed Salad, and the Charshu Onigiri. The Edamame was standard, blanched soybeans and the Charshu Onigiri was fairly bland. The Pork Buns were nice, but the bun itself was plain and masked the pork. The Tempura Shumai was crunchy and delicious while the Seaweed Salad was true to taste. The ramen is where Ramen Kumamoto shines. The Tonkotsu had those delicious notes you look for in the broth: thick, creamy, and milky-white. The type of broth that warms everything in your body. The charshu really stood out here with its buttery and melt-in-your-mouth pork flavor. The seasoned egg wasn’t bad, though I prefer the yolk runny. The kikurage mushrooms add a nice umani richness to the dish without throwing off the balance. Overall, 4-stars for good ramen in Deleware. Maybe the appetizers are a hit/miss, but I’ll definitely be back for another bowl of ramen.

Very good! We had the Mayu Ramen, Spicy Ramen, and Pork Onigiri. The two Ramen dishes were quite different. The spicy is very well named for it is hot but not over the top. Definite Sriracha taste — yummy. My Mayu, in fact, was improved by small additions of Sriracha from a side dish. The Mayu at Ramen Kumamoto is little islands of flavor — bamboo shoots, scallions, pickled ginger, spicy egg, bean sprouts and pork shoulder. All in a pork-based broth. Each bite different, depending on the island you visit. All tasty. The noodles, though, while firm with a good chewiness, we’re boring. Reminded me of unbuttered spaghetti noodles. The Spicy Ramen had better noodles. Slightly thicker and more tasty or maybe the broth made them seem tastier. One of the joyous islands in the Spicy is kimchi. This is a Korean hot pickled cabbage side dish that is a small volcano of taste all by itself. I’ve had it in soups and side dishes in Korea and China both — it really reminded me of meals we’d get from noodle carts in Kaoshiung and Keelung in Taiwan. Fresh, zippy hot and delicious. This is not an upscale restaurant. Patrons were mostly students at the U of D. Décor is interesting. The tables are close together but that made chatting with our fellow Rameneers a pleasant and easy experience. Folks from all over Asia. The small restaurant was full from noon to 1pm. It located off Main Street on Trader’s Alley next to a Subway franchise. I’m going for a curry dish next time I’m there. Two young men next to us had meals that looked and smelled delightful. If you’re in Newark and want a different dining experience I recommend everything about Ramen Kumamoto.

Pretty pretty bad. I will say that the service was great. The guy who runs the place is very friendly and all of the waiters are quick and attentive. The food also came out very fast and hot. — – THATBEINGSAID — - I got some sort of chicken cutlet. The chicken was dry as a bone, and the sauce was disgusting. I don’t know what kind of sauce it was but it was way too heavy for a piece of chicken. I contemplated asking the chef for ketchup but thought better of it as I didn’t want to come across as rude(I’ll save the rudeness for Unilocal.) Aside from the food,(which, like I said, wasn’t good) some of the ways they run things is just weird. When they brought out my appetizer, the only instrument they gave me to eat was chopsticks. Well, I don’t know how to use chopsticks, so I had to look like an uncultured fat American pig and use my hands. Thanks Ramen. Then they don’t give you free refills on sodas(really? in 2015?!) ANDTHEN they make you pay a minimum of $ 15 to use a credit card. I could have gotten better food for less money off the value menu at McDonald’s. I was very disappointed with Ramen Kumamoto and will not be back.

I’ve tried ramen just about everywhere, and I’d have to say that theirs is pretty comparable to Philly, but not as good as New York. I personally enjoy the miso broth ramen. The regular soy broth is pretty bland and I could probably make that at home for 1⁄8 of the price. My favorite part about the meal is ordering the $ 2 karage chicken curry on the side! It’s delicious!!! My biggest qualm with this place, along with MANY other Asian opened and operated businesses, is the service! Better ask for everything you need in one shot because they’ll never come back over to clear your plates or check on you. We asked for waters and waited 10 minutes while the waitress talk to a friend or someone she knew at a near by table. It’s little things like that that truly annoy me at restaurants. I’d definitely go back here and even recommend it to other people but I’ll also include the side notes I’ve stated…

Japanese Ramen in Delaware exists! We stopped in for lunch, hungry for real Japanese-style ramen and we were not disappointed. We started with the karaage fried chicken and the gyoza. Both were good, the karaage was better and while both appetizers were served quickly and piping hot; the gyoza were more Chinese in flavor than Japanese. The karaage was also an interesting take — but very tasty. The ramen was very good. We tried the Miso Ramen, Spicy Ramen and the Tonkotsu Ramen which is my favorite. The broth and noodles were delicious(and for Japanese, you can get a bowl of rice on the side as well) and the traditional ramen accompaniments like bean sprouts, menma, ajitsuke tamogo(egg) etc., were very good. The char siu pork was a little too soft for me — but it was delicious. My family member from visiting from Japan thought it was very delicious and so did I. Gochisousamadeshita!

I have tried all the ramen here expect Bibim noodles(no soup) those months. The owner of this restaurant also own the Terakawa Ramen in Philly. So the taste and quality of their ramen become more and more similar. They also revised the menu a little: the kumamoto signature ramen was changed to mayu ramen. It is correct. I think the signature ramen in this restaurant should be Tonkotsu reman(the first reman on ramen section of menu). Below is my grading system for the remans here: Tonkotsu ramen 5⁄5: very tasty pork bone soup and charshu. Mayu ramen 4⁄5: basically, it is tonkotsu ramen + mayu(having leek and garlic). However, the garlic flavor is too strong to balance the taste of pork bone soup. Miso ramen 5⁄5: Tonkotsu ramen + miso. Miso can enhance the flavor of the good soup. Soy sauce(?) ramen 3⁄5: the name is not correct. It is the reman listed just below the tonkotsu ramen on the menu. The chicken soup is not as tasty as the pork soup here. So I only try this one once. Tan tan ramen 3⁄5: I don’t like its style: the ground meat is not my favorite. Its spicy chicken soup is just so-so. Kumamoto danji ramen 4⁄5: basically it is a big-size mayu ramen with yellow thick noodles. Spicy ramen 5⁄5: Soup is very special and should have pork, chicken and seafood. Also it has a good appearance Charshu ramen 5⁄5: tonkotsu ramen with 2 more charshu! Yummy! In summary, I rate 4 stars for this ramen restaurant. If their chicken soup is better, it should be a 5-star restaurant in our town.

Ramen Kumamoto is the type of place that I wouldn’t expect to find in Delaware. I had the Kumamoto Ramen. Overall the ramen was pretty good … my favorite so far in Delaware, what few options there are … And would probably fall just above or near something like Santouka ramen(a ramen place located in a food court at an Japanese market back home in Los Angeles). Though it says the default for noodles is soft, my noodles came out fairly firm. The broth was not too salty or oily and the chashu was nice and tender. When school is in session, Kumamoto is closed from 3pm to 5pm(not uncommon for a Japanese restaurant). There is free parking in the back, but it quickly fills up with people who both shop at that center and just use it for businesses up and down Main Street.
