Stopped by to grab something to eat while traveling. Came by this place. Found nothing impressive and much disappointing. Fries were soggy and not much to be desired. Burger unassuming. I guess I did like the diner décor, but food and service did not meet my expectations, sadly even for a diner.

Free refills and free attitude all at 530 am. It’s an airport restaurant so what else can you expect

Bad food… Service even worse. Managers: A «diner» doesn’t mean poor quality. It simply means NOT fine dining!!! Simply food!

Worst place I’ve ever eaten in. Without question! I usually check places I’m going to eat in on the internet, but the connection at the airport was horrible and I lost my patience trying to refresh pages. We blindly decided on Ruby’s Diner, because we like«typical american diner» décor and the place seemed homey. The service was bad. We couldn’t find a clean table for four people so we were waiting for them to take the dirty dishes. They completely ignored us for 10 minutes. If we weren’t so tired we would have moved elsewhere. They also kept talking loudly the whole time we were there. The menu is simple and the prices aren’t bad for an airport. However, the food is simply disgusting. I ordered standard breakfast set and I’ve hardly eaten any of it. The sausages looked particularly fatty and disgusting and were gleaming. And they were kind of furry(I really don’t know how to explain it other than that: D).The scrambled eggs were tasteless and the bread was stale. I don’t even have words to describe how disgusting the breakfast potatoes were. You can see for yourself on the photo. When we were leaving we noticed the kitchen and how those potatoes were prepared and we cried a little bit. Please don’t do it!

Did not think it was as bad as many of these reviews! Had a Swiss cheese burger which was pretty good. Fries were also good and the service was fine. The iced tea was kind of watered down and meal was expensive, like $ 13 bucks for a burger and fries. total with tip was almost 20. But you are stuck in the airport and this part of terminal C does not have much more to choose from unless you want to try the cocktail place further down which is MORE expensive!

I obviously hadn’t read reviews before eating here, but then again at the airport you are a bit of a captive audience, especially when you don’t have a lot of time to eat breakfast before your flight takes off. I was here at about 6 am for a 7:18 flight. A few notes: 1) the place was not that busy but I had to wait to be seated 2) No omelets on the menu — what kind of diner is this? 3) «Skinny Breakfast» features cottage chease but they were out of cottage cheese. They told me and since I still wanted a lighter option I took it, but the subtitute of 3 mealy out of season tomato slices was pretty lame. 4) I got out in time for my plane(because I requested the check as soon as my food arrived) but overall service was slow. 5) I asked for an english muffin with butter on the side but yet my muffins arrived with huge globs of melted butter on them so I sent them back and had to wait quite a bit to get the replacements(server actually forgot and saw my messy buttery ones that I rejected that he hadn’t removed and then rememberd he needed to bring them). On the plus side coffee is hot(though not particularly tasty) &OJ while pricey is generous and served in a tall parfait glass so sort of quaint and charming for an old time diner feel. Overall though given the nice associations I have with the name«Ruby»(one of my mom’s best friends names), I was pretty disappointed by this experience. If I was starving and no other options to eat prior to my flight I might go back, but given any other option I probably wouldn’t bother.

Slow, mediocre over priced airport food. Milk shakes were not good, almost weird tasting. We had a chicken caesar salad & some jalapano cheese sticks. The cheese sticks were blah but the salad was tasty. Wouldn’t stop here again if I came back to this airport.

Expensive. So so service. Crowded. In fact most of the restaurants in Terminal C are crap. They could ALL start with firing ¾ of their rude employees.

My Husband and I were really hungry and stuck at EWR since we missed our connecting flight. We saw Ruby’s Diner and our faces lit up. Buuuuut once there we realized it was a bad choice. The service was poor, the food was disgusting and cold, and the cooks don’t wear hairnets in the kitchen and were all loud while chit chatting with each other. The fruit flies were also not attractive and super annoying around us and our food. Never coming back and definitely do not recommend it. Don’t do it people!

Food is good, just what you would expect from a diner. For an airport, the price was actually reasonable as well. Too bad the service is lacking. Not slow, just very very unfriendly. I guess this should be expected in Newark. A couple of smiles and a thank you could easily make this place 3 stars instead of two.

The food was OK, the server was very pleasant and portions were reasonable. I found it to be very expensive, $ 30 for chowder, turkey burger and iced tea. I like that I could get turkey over beef, didn’t like that the chowder came only in a big bread bowl. I would probably try again if I’m hungry and in the airport again, but otherwise will do the United Club for snacks.

New management New name same diner feel. But service is on the poor side, not reminiscent of the funny poor at Mel’s either. The food is average to below average in quality and preparation. The staff seem to have a careless attitude perhaps thinking transient customers are not important to their reputation; certainly not true of Unilocal users.

I’d give zero stars if I could. Our server was clearly either having a bad day or just a miserable person. We went here because we go to the Ruby’s near our house an our daughter loves it. Well congrats Newark she no longer likes Ruby’s. Also the food was terrible. Specifically if you cook 8 pounds of bacon and put it in a huge bin and it sits there for an hour… Sick. God help the person who gets the bacon on the bottom that is probably left over from the day before. The home fries were barely cooked and my wife took one bite and pushed them to the side. Save yourself some time and go somewhere else. I hate to say it too because we love the one near our house.

Dont do this to your self. I know it seems like a diner would be awesome. NO!!! It is not. You are not this hungry. The food is not good and the service is bad

Don’t mistake this diner for a real Ruby’s Diner. It is not worth the time or money. I ordered the«Skinny Breakfast» and they only served the eggs, no fruit, no other sides that were listed on the menu. When I asked the waitress what about the fruit and cottage cheese that are suppose to come the meal, she was totally put off. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you are getting any kind of breakfast here. Service bad, food worse.

I always need a burger when I return from Europe through Newark. There are several choices here if you have time. My experience is this is my third choice if you forget all the fast food places. Burger is just so so. The other choices have a wider selection too if your traveling partner isn’t set on a burger. No beer or wine here. Service is pretty fast, but that’s a low bar in any airport place.

In Newark airport and wanted a quick bite at reasonable price. Shake was very good, onion rings ok, chicken fingers not so good.

Food is reheated from frozen and tastes terrible. Our scrambled eggs were bland and the potatoes were still frozen in the middle in addition to smelling like freezer burn. The coffee is diner quality and the waitress never came back to refill my cup. The one star is for the extra crispy extra salty bacon; exactly as I like it.

I found myself at Newark Int’l Airport before a flight out of the country for ten days and just wanted an American burger and shake. Ruby’s offered a decent experience for what I was looking for. I quickly got my burger, fries and shake so I could board my plane and experience another culture. Service was quick, food was as expected.

Whoever called this place airport bottom feeding spoke truth. I’ve been a bit under the weather these past few days so when I found myself stuck at Gate 101 for a four hour wait I decided to try to eat at the closest restaurant. Which was Ruby’s. Mistake #1. I figured a turkey burger would be easy on the tummy, plus iced tea which I can always take. Mistake #2. The tea was the color of slightly dirty water. Oh yummy. Basically it was tasteless. I wasn’t offered a refill. Which may have been a good thing. The turkey burger was also tasteless, with a texture that bespoke(a) the freezer and(b) bread crumbs. The tomato and onion slices were generous — to give them credit. The slightly stale bun was whole wheat. It came with fries(«no, we can’t hold them, sorry») which my husband would have characterized as «fresh last week.» They were also cold when they arrived. The décor — diner red and white — is fun. The staff was attentive. But at $ 19 for burger, fries, and tea, it was definitely overpriced. So now, back at Gate 101, I regret lost opportunities as I wait. MORAL: CHECK UnilocalFIRST, ALWAYS!
