Not forgetting to mention their nacho chips, it’s really reaaallly crunchy! NO joke! It’s not even salty nor greasy! Definitely a must go to(TexMex) ! Really Authentic! You’ll eat with your hands When you start munching, you can’t stop the crunching! Definitely Not a good idea after a workout and for dieters hahah!

Good food, decent prices. Lots on the menu to choose from. Looks and tastes fresh. Different salsas to choose from on the side. Large sitting area. No complaints, just not the best I’ve had.

This place is bomb. I am in the Newark area for work a lot, and we stop at Los Gallos once or twice a week. Everything on the menu is delicious, plus the chips and salsa you get are a big plus. I tend to judge Mexican places by their horchata, and Los Gallos passes the test. In an area with just about every kind of Asian food you can imagine, it’s nice to have a go-to place when you just want some tacos.

The burrito was excellent but I felt that the price $ 8+ was too high. In addition to the poor service and stinginess with chips I’d say pass. There are better options in the area. 3⁄5. Good but overpriced and better stuff is close by.

Hi, I hate writing this type of review, but I must. I’ve came here three times during night shift, and this place is disgusting! I mean I don’t know where to start, this must be the only Mexican food because to see it at a 4 star is a disgrace. It makes me wonder if this side of town has ever had delicious Mexican food. First off the place is gross, bathrooms stink and there are not cleaned at least the times I’ve been there. The man that’s ringing the register doesn’t leave his phone alone and customer service, I don’t think his ever heard of it, if someone told me he is the owner I would say«no way Jose» why? Cause he acts like doesn’t care. There are 2 ladies moving very slow and well let’s not talk about the cook. The PASSED sign says it passed inspection, but I don’t think that’s accurate. On that day they must have cleaned and that’s how they passed. If you get pressed juices from here, I would reconsider they clean the gadget and container with windex, instead of using soap and water. The salsa bar looks disgusting I found a bug in the lemon and I feel that if the workers are just eating and walk g around for something to do they can be cleaning, checking salsa bowls and if is almost done, then put it in smaller containers so that spoons are not falling inside and people’s fingers are being cleaned in the salsas. gross! Anyway, I will not be coming here I’m sure the food can have potential but when I’m sitting inside an unsanitary and uncleaned area I get yucked out. Sanchos in Palo Alto still the next Mexican and a clean place even the employees look clean. Good luck, I’m sorry if I hurt anyone’s feeling, but the truth needs to be told Thanks you.

Came here for years since I was a kid, They used to be really good but somewhere along the line you guys have fell off. The food is just not as good as it once was, the meat they use here is terrible My dad had been coming here for 10 years plus and hadn’t gone in a while and I told him how bad it was and he didn’t believe me. Let’s just say he no longer eats here either

My go-to place when I want yummy, affordable Mexican in the area. I always get al pastor as the meat, which is great. Their tacos are filling and tasty, chips fresh, salsa fresh and addicting. Sometimes I get the super burrito as a treat – it’s sinfully huge and caloric. The super quesadilla is also good. I got some of their trays catered for my wedding reception: enchiladas, rice, and beans, and they threw in some(well, many large bags of) chips and salsa. Very efficient, affordable, and easy to work with. A Newark classic, for good reason. Oh, and my mom, who is a menudo addict, says their menudo is on point. So, if you like menudo(I don’t), this is a good place to try, too!

Another dissatisfied experience courtesy of you CRAZY UnilocalERS with a terrible sense of taste for good food!!! We were in the area and I’m craving Mexican food for dinner. It was this place over La Piñata and La Casita due to its FALSE Unilocal4STAR review! First off, the place could definitely use an upgrade! What’s up with your menu board? And what’s even worse is this place is so crappy that they don’t believe in air conditioner for their customers who not only have to endure the nasty food they are about to consume, but to have to eat it in the heat! SMF — LOWBUDGET!!! We ordered carne asada crunchy taco, soft taco, enchilada, and super burrito. Low grade meat = disgusting! They give you complimentary chips… stale chips and two little containers for your salsa from salsa bar… which doesn’t look clean at all! Oh and before I forget, the guacomole is GROSS! Overall, this place was a disappointment. I would have rather gone to La Piñata over this place any day!

I ordered the vegetarian burrito and it was delicious! The portions are huge, a regular sized burrito is definitely filling. I loved that it’s one of the few taquerias that’s open late nights(especially weekends). On the other hand, wasn’t a huge fan of any of the salsas, none of them really stood out to me and were pretty mediocre. Overall a good place to get your Mexican craving satisfied!

My significant other took me here the other night. Honestly, I loved it. I love Mexican food and I’m sure there’s other great Mexican restaurants in the area as well. I was happily satisfied with this place. We had 6 pollo asado crunchy tacos, 3 for me and 3 for him. For Togo! Of course when we got back home some of the tacos weren’t as crunchy but that’s okay. I love how this place packs chicken in the tacos! Like a lot… A lot of chicken, haha. I was impressed with how much they put too. The tacos were so yummy! I would definitely come back here and show the place some love by ordering more tacos, haha! I’ll plan to order something different as well :)

Taqueria Los Gallos is a great option for Mexican cuisine in the area, and is my backup whenever either of the Ofelia’s trucks are closed. The place is always packed with mostly Mexican patrons, and I’m usually the lone chino loco in the premises, so you know it must be legit. Honestly, the burritos are pretty decent, but not quite comparable to Ofelia’s. They are packed much more tightly, with an ample amount of meat and other ingredients, but as a whole, are slightly dry and lacking a bit of flavor. I have tried it with various meats, and the same holds true for them all. On the other hand, I can wholeheartedly recommend the hot plates. A heaping load of meat with all the fixings is just the ticket to satisfy any craving for Mexican food. It might be a little heavy for lunch(even with the smaller size), but is perfect for dinner. The salsa bar is definitely more than you’d find at your friendly local truck, but a minor complaint is that the selection is not quite spicy enough. The interior could certainly use some sprucing up, as it is starting to show its age, and to be quite frank, is a tad on the icky side. The restroom can also be somewhat unpleasant as well. Service is a bit gruff at times, and you don’t get as much as a smile on most nights, but it is efficient, with orders coming out fairly quickly, which is all you can ask for. For the most part, for Mexican food in this part of town, Los Gallos is more than adequate. Just don’t expect to be blown away. Now that the Ofelia’s( ) is no longer open until midnight for the winter, this place is your best bet.

NOVEMBER6 — NATIONALNACHOSDAY «SUPERNACHOSPOLLOASADO(GRILLEDCHICKEN)» Fox football analyst Jimmy Johnson’s favorite food is nachos. I believe he would love the nachos here. Since today is National Nachos Day it is fitting that I write this updated review but specifically to the super nachos at Taqueria Los Gallos especially since I’ve been complimented that my original review of this place is on this week’s The Weekly Unilocal regarding nachos. The one item I always love here is the super nachos. I’ve ordered different types of meat with the super nachos. I had the carne asada super nachos that I thought were OK. I had pollo, which is shredded chicken, with the super nachos. I didn’t like it as I found meat was watery and I don’t like shredded meat in general. The chorizo with the super nachos can tend to be too oily. I liked lengua with the super nachos but it can be heavy. The second best super nachos I’ve had here is the cabeza nachos they were big chunks. However cabeza isn’t served here anymore. The best super nachos that supersede all those other meat is the pollo asado, which is grilled chicken. Why I love the grilled chicken with these nachos is that the grilled cube-size bites absorb the ingredients of the nachos that enhance the flavor of the nachos. Regardless if you order the super nachos or the regular nachos what makes the nachos special in Taqueria Los Gallos are two items that are NOT on the nachos. That sounds weird right? Let me explain. First there are no beans in these nachos. I love beans in general but beans in nachos make the dish heavy. Second why these nachos at Taqueria Los Gallos are special is there is no jalapeño. I like slices of jalapeño in soup because it adds a bite, but not on anything else. I believe that beans and jalapenos mask the flavor of the nachos. By not having beans and jalapenos on the super nachos at Taqueria Los Gallos you can taste the other ingredients — cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo. You might be asking if beans and jalapenos are taken out of nachos wouldn’t that be disturbing with culinary, Mexican tradition. However nachos aren’t a traditional Mexican dish. It’s a Tex-Mex dish created for the US Servicemen’s wives during WWII. I found that out when I watch an episode of Anthony Bourdain’s «No Reservation.» So don’t feel conscience if there are no beans and jalapenos in these nachos as nachos aren’t a traditional Mexican dish. The most important thing is if the nachos are delicious. At Taqueria Los Gallos the nachos are delicious and filing. Are the super nachos at Taqueria Los Gallos the best nachos I’ve ever had? No but it’s pretty darn good. In fact I believe the super nachos with pollo asado in particular is the best item at Taqueria Los Gallos.

We had stopped to try the new Chinese next door, cash only. Busy place, divey for sure. I ordered 2 tacos, carne asada & al pastor. La Diabla ordered a quesadilla and a michalada. Free, small bowl of chips. We took our number and sat down. There’s a salsa bar with 4 salsa selections as well as radishes and the jalapeño/carrot mix. Food was out in about 5 minutes, hot & freshly prepared. Generous amount of meat on the tacos & quesadilla. Only disappointment is the shrimp that was included with the michalada was old, mushy. Tasty! We’ll be back but won’t get a michalada!

Mexican food is pretty decent around the tri-city area and Taqueria Los Gallos is no exception. Well put together burritos and tacos, but nothing too amazing as to blow your taste buds away. I like how generous they are with their meat portions. Also, open salsa bar and drinks fountain(including unlimited horchata). Nachos are super greasy, but very tasty. I probably wouldn’t drive out of my way for this place, but it ain’t a bad option in terms of Mexican food in Newark.

My mom was craving Mexican food one night so we came to Los Gallos as we live closely. The place is on the messy side and doesn’t give off a clean vibe. However, the cashier was super nice and service was very fast. They managed to get our order out in less than 10 minutes. We got 3 super burritos with lengua, chicken and steak respectively. I also ordered a Super Nachos to top my craving. The burritos were on the pricey side from what I am used to. But, they don’t SKIMP on the filling at all. Our burritos were packed with meat, rice, salsa, and cheese. The meats were ok, a little bit on the salty side for my taste. Our Super Nachos were made well with the exception of dry steak. Overall, pretty good place to come for a quick burrito fix. I wouldn’t necessarily order their Super Nachos again, but I would definitely come for a good burrito!

Free salsa bar with chips, fast service, and they have fresh squeezed orange and carrot juice. Triple win. Food is always good, no matter what you get. Big portions too. I recommend the super burritos, super quesadillas(lots of bang for your buck for being $ 4.50), or fajita plates. Plates come with rice, beans, sour cream, and guac. The only slight down side is the guac isn’t that great(it’s watery). I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, and I appreciate the consistency!
