Came with a coupon for 2 dinner specials and 2 sodas. First off, none of the staff had any idea about the coupon.(It was printed in the local flyer recently). Server finally tells us it’s good for«everything». She allows us to order only to come back and tell us a few minutes later it’s only good for the ONE menu item which is the«special». Food comes out, plate was sparse with food clearly spread out across the plate. Would not refill our sodas either. Food was very greasy, and not good at all. Chips were also clearly from a bag, salsa was nothing special either. A complete waste of money.

The food was great and fresh. I had the seafood enchiladas, which would be my last meal if I was on death row. Everything is made fresh on site with no canned sauces here. They even make their own fresh chips. Amazing seafood. The owner is a very friendy guy that genuinely cares about his customers and his quality. Don’t let the strip mall façade fool you. The beer is cold and they serve ot with a frosted mug. The portions are generous, and they treat you like family in for a visit. Recommend.

Great food and service! Amazing margaritas in small medium or large. I love their fajitas! The salsa they bring to the table is so yummy and just the right spicy level. owner is really nice

Did not care for the food or the slow service. The exception was the salsa and chips. Salsa actually seemed fresh and had a bit of a kick. The bean«dip» though was just bland refried beans — grey in color — ick. The meal was very basic, no frills(at all — where’s the salad/slaw?) bland mushy food. Portions were average(which fit with the price). Everything on my plate pretty much tasted the same, of course after a couple bites, I smothered everything in the salsa to try to find some flavor, so. The kids quesadilla was about the only thing I enjoyed(after my son decided he didn’t like it for some reason). If you like your Mexican food bland and boring, then this might be the place for you. The service was slow. I’m used to being in and out of a Mexican restaurant in 30 – 40 mins MAX! We were there for at least an hour, and I finally had to ask for my check, then pay up front(instead of waiting another 5 – 10 mins for my server to come back), just so we could get out of there. Service was not rude. That’s about the best I can say. As for the Margarita I had, it tasted like the kind I make at home with the mix I buy from the grocery store, and some basic tequila. Certainly, not anything noteworthy. Not terrible(otherwise, I would not make them at home), but the juice was not«fresh», which is what I’ve come to expect from«good» Mexican restaurants. We only went here, because we couldn’t find another restaurant that was listed as good. We were walking, it was raining, so we just stopped here. Mistake.

If this is someone’s idea of good Mexican food, the haven’t been anywhere else. Ordered beef tacos, the meat looked like watered down hamburger and tasteless. Packaged shells and cheddar cheese, really? Don’t waste your money go to Taco Bell

Great ceviche. Best in the area. Margaritas are equally good. Always great service.

Food is good, inexpensive($ 5 lunch), excellent service. The owner is a nice guy and the food always gets to table in a timely manner, which for me is great because we frequently go there for lunch. It’s really more like 4 stars, but to be fair I went with 5… since people feel like giving one star review because of minor flaws. Lunch is $ 5…do you really expect 5-star service and

Terrible service, the owner was a jerk and the food is average at best. Better Mexican-style food to be had in Newberg. Don’t waste your time.

Food is mediocre. Service meh. We told them we can’t eat flour and wanted corn tortillas. They brought flour. My husband ate a few bites before I caught it. He’s celiac and got very sick afterwards from the flour. Pet peeve when someone tell you they can’t eat something, take it seriously.

I’m looking for atmosphere, authenticity, and friendly service when I’m out for Mexican Food– There are a lot of options around here. Lago de Chapala stands out… Its got a canteen in the back, its family run, and it has an honest warmth thats a mix of the décor, the Mexican soaps playing on the tube, and the engaging personality of the staff. The chips are plentful, the beer is cold, and the food is great. If you were wondering whether that mexican place in the strip mall next to the auto parts store might be the real deal… It is!

After you go to New To You to get your sweater and sunglasses(see review for the funny), stop here for lunch. They are a fine group and make some decent food. If you habla the spanish they will certainly hook you up with stuff they don’t put on the menu. Un idioma nunca es suficiente. Keep in mind they deal with white people all day every day, so give them some smiles and they will give you some back.

Heads up Chapala: this should read 2.5 stars and quickly falling. I’m giving you 2.5 stars for now because we’ve had a long, long relationship. Remember the time the two year old kid puked all over the place? Priceless, and no, it wasn’t your fault. I’ve been coming here for 10+ years now. I’ve eaten here more times than I care to remember. The wife always gets the exact same thing: Camarones ala Crema. The last time it had a bunch of shrimp tails in it. I usually mix it up and get Chili Verde, Carne Asada, or something else. The food is always mediocre, nothing fancy. It is never great, yet never bad — such is the perplexity that is Lago De Chapala. It is fairly cheap. The service is OK, the staff is usually friendly, but you are ALWAYS waiting just a little too long to get your waters refilled. Fans of mine will note that I usually take a whole star off if my water is not promptly refilled ASAP. Almost every time we are done eating, we get tired of waiting for our check and end up going to the front to pay for the meal. Why the 2.5 star rating then? The last time we were in there, the restroom had a sign stating NOTOILETPAPERINTHETOILET. WTF? The last time I checked, toilet paper gets flushed down the toilet and not stuffed into a garbage can(nasty!). I’m not sure I will be back soon, as there are two other pretty decent Mexican joints in Newberg that will happily let me flush my toilet paper down with the rest of my «business».
