Bordy’s Pizza

Ugh. I *wanted* to like Bordy’s. I really did.
Spouse and I were driving home shortly before 8:30pm on July 31, 2015. Decided to swing by the Newburgh Turoni’s for pizza and beer, but as we’re looking for a parking spot in Turoni’s full parking lot, we remembered Bordy’s across the street and decided to give it a try. Turoni’s was packed; Bordy’s was not. We figured we’d get our food much faster and we had wanted to try this place anyway.
Bordy’s used to be in a strip mall on Bell Rd. south of the Lloyd. They moved to a more visible location on Bell Oaks right across from the Newburgh Turoni’s. I believe the building used to be the Newburgh Rug Gallery. The restaurant itself is pretty basic and scarcely decorated. There were a few empty tables waiting to be cleared but otherwise seemed «OK» on the clean scale.
We were seated and told our server would be with us shortly. We waited over 10 minutes. Nobody came to greet us or take our drink order. It was like we were invisible. I told Spouse we could get up and walk out and nobody would notice. We counted 3 other tables that had customers; otherwise the restaurant wasn’t busy. The girl who seated us was cleaning up a table nearby. Spouse finally got up and asked her us if she could send our server over. She apologized, said they have «new servers» tonight and came to our table herself a few minutes later after she finished clearing a neighboring table off.
She was very friendly. Took our drink order and pizza order. We explained that we needed some customization on our pizza due to allergies and preferences. «No problem!» So we requested that one half of our 14-​inch pizza be pepperoni only. On the other half, we wanted the Bordy’s Special with a few items withheld. Server said no problem at all, and left to put our order in.
She checked on us a few times and refilled Spouse’s drink. Two other servers also checked on us and asked if we were OK — which was nice (I guess) yet odd considering how nobody acknowledged us when we first got there.
We waited over 30 minutes for our pizza which seemed quite long considering they weren’t busy.
Then the pizza came.
It was *not* what we ordered. We repeated our order and the girl was like «Right.» Right, so, this is NOT what we ordered. She offered to have the kitchen make a new one. We declined because we had already been sitting there for nearly 45 minutes and didn’t have time. It was nearly 9:15pm by then. So she left us to eat our pizza and never returned to check on us again. We scraped off what toppings we could but felt the pizza was bland. The sauce wasn’t spread to the edges of the crust and of course it was covered with toppings we didn’t like or couldn’t eat. We eventually gave up and had to flag her down to ask for our bill.
She brought our bill about 5 minutes later and there was yet another problem. We had ordered one 14-​inch pizza, one soda, and one beer… and our bill was $ 57.87. They charged us for THREE pizzas. (For what it’s worth — our customized order was noted correctly on the receipt which shows she put our order in correct. The kitchen crew messed up.)
Spouse went to the counter with our bill and was clearly frustrated. He explained the error. The guy who rang us up apologized and said he’d knock off 10%. Um, thanks? Our new total was $ 19.74. We paid with a $ 20 and suggested they keep the change.
So — let’s check Bordy’s off the «been there, done that» list. We won’t be back.
In a small town like Newburgh, when you decide to open a pizza/​Italian place directly across the street from a popular, well-​established pizza place like Turoni’s, you can NOT afford to mess things up like this. I do not see this place surviving. A kitchen that can’t get an order right can create a very dangerous situation for someone with food allergies. This place had NO attention to detail. Seriously — they didn’t even notice that our $ 57 bill seemed a bit off for one pizza and two drinks AFTER we had experienced poor service?
Given how long we waited on a slow night and how poor service was — I’d recommend you overlook this place and just wait for a table at Turoni’s.
