I’m not sure if this place is under new management from the last time I was here last spring, however, I was extremely disappointed with the service and lack of options on the menu. My fiancé and I were ignored by our server multiple times while we waited patiently to order. I have never visited on a Sunday so I was unaware of the brunch menu and I would have left if my fiancé wasn’t so hungry, because there were about 10 choices and none of them were very appealing to us. My eggs benedict was decent but my fiances waffles were dry and sickingly coated with sugar. Also, I have worked in many restaurants and I can’t stress how important it is to have MORETHANONE server on. Café macchiato is a small place, but it was packed so we became very impatient since there was only one person on the floor. I don’t think I’ll ever be providing them with service again.

Friendly atmosphere, quick service even when busy, and the staff sincerely engages you which is the most important part. I had the chicken curry sandwich and a mocha; I enjoyed every bite/sip.

Treated myself to lunch today and Café Macchiato is one of my favorite places for a good meal. New owners and much more like the original in décor and atmosphere so I was disappointed when I ordered one of their specialties, Shrimp and Grits and it be less than good. The grits were very salty and there was way too much bacon. There were at least 6 nice sized shrimp and they were good so I didn’t send the dish back, but I was tempted :(Service was good and I will come back again. They are also adding dinner which we will also try. I hope this was just a fluke or a cook who was a substitute! Update to my review… I have never had a business owner reply to my review in such a disrespectful manner so I am posting her response and my follow up for anyone to see: Unilocal Hi Pat, Jodi sent you a message on Unilocal: Subject: Your Review «Hello Pat, As much as I appreciate the positive aspects of your review, I do feel it was a bit unfair. My server offered to make you a new batch of grits after your complaint of them being salty, which would have prevented you having to leave this negative review. The grits are from local organic company, and there is parmesan, salt and pepper added to the final product. I’m sorry if you found it too salty to your liking, but as the only „cook“(chef/owner) in the kitchen, they will typically be a bit on the savory side versus traditional southern grits which are more simply prepared. Probably not the best dish for you to order in the future, or I can substitute something else with the shrimp. As for the bacon, most want more bacon in the dish, not less. I would have much preferred to make you a fresh batch of grits without any salt rather than have you post this review.. I take tremendous pride and care in the planning and execution of the menu and food, and there is not one processed food ingredient in my kitchen, thus creating a well-balanced menu. If you plan to visit the caffe again, please request not to put any salt on your dishes, and then you can add the amount of salt you prefer. Thank you, Jodi Cummings Chef/Owner Caffe Macchiato» For your information, Jodi, southern grits always are cooked with salt… I know how grits should be cooked as I’ve been cooking them for over 50 years, thank you… and your grits were waaaay too salty no matter if the salt was added or from Parmesan cheese or other seasonings. If you tasted them before serving them you should have realized how salty they were. And whether of not others like more bacon or not one item in the dish should never overpower the other! I do agree with you that I should have just sent them back, but I was already late to a Dr appt so I would have had to leave hungry, so decided just to drink lots of water instead… but rest assured if or when I ever come back, I certainly will send back anything that is as out of balance as that dish was!!!

I love this spot for so many reasons. It feels like home for me. I come here to just tune out the world and enjoy a great meal. The place gets packed rather quickly and it’s no wonder, because the food is that good. On a heavy day, you will wait a bit… but hey«where are you off to?» I end up doing the happy me dance on the way out. I do intentionally hang by the bar, so I do not feel guilty about staying for an hour plus, ok maybe more. This is just the kind of place where there is no time wasted, just about the experience… which is worth waiting for. If you are reading this, trust me… it’s all good in the hood. Another perfect Sunday! Ant

Unfortunately, this place is NOT Vegan. We drove 30 minutes just to find out that they really had only one vegan dish on the menu. The menu is not the same as it is listed on Unilocal.A bit disappointing, we would come back a lot often if there were more vegan options. Other than that, the restaurant is very cute, lovely atmosphere, and the food is delicious. My husband enjoyed his chicken dish and I enjoyed the«vegan breakfast» for lunch(the only vegan item on the menu). The food was fresh and tasty. The ice tea was delicious. It’s refreshing to see such a lovely place in Newburgh. I hope they do well. And please add more Vegan options to the menu!(Or at least remove the vegan category from Unilocal, please! There are way too many meat dishes and not enough vegan dishes to be listed as vegan.)

Ate there with previous owner and always thought it was fine but hours were erratic and went there so many times to find it was closed. Figured I would go on a Sunday because I live nearby and would consider myself the target demo. It was busy and the owner/manager/server whoever greeted everyone else and sat them and never bothered to say anything to my friend and I. Walked by several times and just ignored us. Maybe because we were under 50. Makes sense. As someone who worked in service industry i was taught to greet and communicate with guests even if there is no table for them at that time. We turned around and left.

The owner of this restaurant personally reached out to my girlfriend with a bunch of random excuses and insults, so I have to change my review from the 2 stars to 1. Hilariously, she said«the bacon was local, organic, and we don’t serve hunks of cheap bacon like the restaurants he’s used to eating at.» Bad move making assumptions like that, it’s clueless people like this that really shouldn’t be allowed near the internet. Dear Caffé Macchiato owner: I get most of my bacon from Tender Belly in Iowa. It is likely the finest bacon in America. I should know, having attended several Blue Ribbon Bacon Events over the last few years. Tender Belly’s pigs wouldn’t s**t on your bacon. Then again, I don’t know if there’s such a thing as Kmart bacon, but I don’t think Kmart pigs would s**t on your bacon either. That’s how bad your bacon is. But that’s really not even relevant. I would rather have cheap bacon from a Denny’s that was at least *edible*, than try to eat your sorry-a$$ excuse for a strip of bacon again.(I’m sorry, did I say«strip?» Because it’s literally half a pathetic strip.) Do yourself a favor and google«Tender Belly Bacon» and figure out how to order it. Then your restaurant will only suck 99% instead of 100%. I am thankful we’ve been banned from the restaurant. A lot of times I’m open to giving someone a second chance. The owners here clearly didn’t deserve one.

I was in the area for my sons soccer tournament and looked up on Unilocal what my vegan options were and Caffe Macchiata came up first in the list for Vegan Restaurants. We had quite a bit of time to kill so we figured we’d drive on over. I drove over 30 minutes to get there and they basically had 1 option for vegans which was a wrap. THISPLACEISNOTVEGAN. The server was very sweet and friendly but totally clueless and should not be waitressing. My boyfriend(who is not vegan) ordered the coconut waffles which came with bacon or I should say… half a piece of bacon. I was hoping his meal was going to be good but he was very disappointed. He said the waffles were dry, tasteless and seemed as if they were just microwaved. The size of the side of bacon was a JOKE lol It was literally the size of my little pinky. So overall, quite disappointing and on top of that, quite expensive! I left quite annoyed. Only good thing about this place was the coffee. I have to mention that they just took over ownership from a guy that used to offer more vegan options(so I was told) about 5 weeks ago. Maybe they’ll work out some of them kinks and ALSO remove that they are a Vegan restaurant. *UPDATE The owner of this restaurant messaged me. This is what she said which I found to be extremely unprofessional. If it were me, as a business owner, I would have apologized for the terrible experience and invited the customer back. «Jodi C: Business Owner It’s disappointing you felt compelled to leave this very unfair and imbalanced review even after I, the owner/chef offered a few vegan off-menu options, AND my front-of-house manager explained to you that I was the new owner, and hadn’t had a chance to update all of our web presence. You are not welcome back anytime soon. I see you are a „One-Star Assassin“. And it was pretty lame for your husband to leave a second negative review after you mentioned his meal. The bacon was local and organic and we don’t serve hunks of cheap bacon like the restaurants he’s used to eating at.»

My girlfriend and I signed our lease here a few months ago and she finally got me to go here this afternoon. The place was busy, but our waitress was very attentive and nice. I had the coconut waffle with bacon– best waffle I have ever had. My girlfriend had a breakfast burrito, and though we were full halfway through our meal, our plates had nothing left on them at the end. We’ll definitely be back.

3rd incarnation and so far so good. We had winter jewel salad and a Cubano. Both were yummy. Side salad was yummy as well. A definite visit next time I’m back in Newburgh. :)

Charming little spot not far from the river, on a quiet street. Had the breakfast sandwich: 2 sunny eggs on a delicious brioche roll, with a little roasted tomatoes and a wonderful dressing on the roll. Excellent coffee, which means a lot to me. Bottle of water on the table, and great service. I’ll be back soon.

This place is hands down fantastic. The food is great. The gluten free vegan cinnamon doughnut was the best thing I have ever tasted. I am not gluten free, nor vegan, so I was turned off by the name. But my son ordered it and after trying it I ate the whole thing and had to order him another. The owner and the staff are super friendly and helpful. This place makes me wish I lived on the corner because I could easily eat 2 – 3 meals here a day.

This place makes we me wish I lived in Newburgh. I Unilocaled it after a long, hot day at Storm King. Next thing you know, I pull up by this gem of a place. Amazing, strong coffee! The décor is artsy and spacious and inviting. Claudio and Diana were so warm and engaging, and their taste in music adds the perfect note to the atmosphere.

I’ve been here four times in the past have always enjoyed the service and food. However, after today I probably won’t go back. I’ve only dealt with owner before and perhaps he’s better at costumer service than his waitress. I walked 20 mins to this café for their croissants French toast. My absolute favorite. After getting there, I asked for them for it. She said she’d have to see because there’s no more croissants. But there was four croissants in the bread container. She said she couldn’t use those because then she’d have none left to sell later. So rather than make 11.50 each for two orders of French toast(a total of 23 dollars) she wanted to wait and sell them for 2.00 a piece to potential customers. As a former server I know very well when you have a paying costumer you make the sell!!! You don’t tell them no I need to sell those later! I’m so incredibly disappointed and upset. I have tons of friends who come here often and will be sure to tell them about this. I’m so upset, not only did I walk there and make myself late to a class at mount st Mary’s but I’m completely in awe on how poor her costumer service was! I’ve done nothing but rave about this place since my first time here. Just utterly disappointed.

Loved it! The food was fresh and the coffee was good. The coffee was so good it didn’t need sugar. I had the Mexican Baked Eggs and the French Toast(I was really hungry.) The Mexican Baked Eggs are super hot at first, so a tip: let it air out. The French Toast was delish. I’m still stuck on this coffee, though. Looking forward to stopping in on my next trip to NY.

Café Macchiato’s is just a few yards from Historic George Washington’s Headquarters. Walking towards the café, I can feel the nostalgia in the air and sense the architectural history of one of the most iconic areas in American history. Entering Café Macchiato’s, we are greeted with an eclectic welcoming array of décor, most notably the splash of gentle elephant figurines adorning practically every corner. The fact that elephants symbolize commitment, loyalty, strength, patience, and communication, speaks volume for the message the owner of Café Macchiato wishes to convey. Claudio introduced himself to us and was very warm, impersonal, and professional. The most difficult part of our 45 minute drive to Café Macchiato’s was«what to choose from their fabulous menu» We started with a macchiato or two, a slice of their rich Raspberry Tart, and a Gluten Free Vegan Donut on a pool of Caramelized brown sugar. I chose the Macchiato Challah French Toast-blended w aromatically delicious marzipan, and topped with fresh sliced beautifully ripened strawberries, and warmed syrup. My husband decided on the Naples Scramble, a savory blend of prosciutto, mozzarella, tomatoes folded into velvety eggs on a bed of spinach and topped with marinara, paired with oregano potatoes and a toasted baguette. It was more than we imagined when we toured on the advise of a friend. I have no vested interest in this review other than to allow our experience to go noticed so that others may explore this amazing fare for themselves. We will be back.

I have mixed feeling about this place. The menu tends to change, but at the same time, it seems lackluster. I think they’re trying to appeal to a vegan/vegetarian clientele, which is perfectly fine, but dress up some of the other food items for those of us who may want more. The pastries/desserts are oh-so-tempting, but the coffee is barely more than just coffee. I go to other coffee shops(coffee specific places) and can usually find something a little unusual, but the coffee drinks here are unimaginative. I love that this is in the heart of Newburgh, and I want to love it, but right now all I can do is support it by going in every so often and making a purchase half-heartedly.
