Had to update the review. Definitely one of the best places in Newburgh if not the top of the heap. Never had bad meal here yet. He has a standard menu that is always set to about 5 or 6 options on the Hot tray. There is a small menu that’s off items that you have to ask him such as boiled plantains and other down-home Jamaican goods. His rum cake is definitely some of the best I’ve had. Give it a shot if you have a chance. He has started to introduce jumble sauce which you can add to your food, you just have to ask if the homemade stuff is available. It’s usually right behind the counter on the shelves in Plainview. If you like hot Jamaican patties on the spicy side you have to get here before 4 o’clock if not they’re all gone. The drinks aren’t too bad either he offers sea moss, Irish moss and a bunch of fruit juices. Also some of the best fried chicken in Newburgh. :PLEASEBEAWAREHEOPERATESONISLANDTIME; HELIKESTOLINGEROVERTHERICEWHILEPOURINGTHEGRAVYANDMAKESSURETHEPLANTAINSAREARRANGEDJUSTRIGHT. ITSWORTHTHEWAIT:

One key to this place is coming at the right time. Late morning or noon if possible. I’ve come later in the afternoon or evening and the food was a little dried out. The flavors are there though. It’s around $ 8 for a small plate of Jerk chicken, oxtails, curry goat etc. The interior is nice and clean too. You might even be serenaded with some Jamaican gospel songs while you wait :)

This was the THIRD spot on broadway that I attempted to get some decent oxtail from. The woman at the counter was sweet, friendly, bossy, and knowledgeable. the oxtail was good — NOT great– but way better than the two places I fond on lower broadway. The fried dumpling was delicious. The jerk chicken was good — on the spicy side.

Jerk chicken is worth parking on broadway and dealing with an unsavory character on occasion. Everything about the dish is great-including the sides(the rice and beans, cabbage, and plantains are scrumdiddilyumptious). Jerk chicken makes me want to yell fire. Large portions make me irie man! One piece of advice, get it to go. If you don’t know now you know!
