If you love your bbq smoked and you love the may to fall off the bone. You need to try Carolinas. They are simply the best in the area.

Visiting from MD. Heeded the reviews and tried the pork BBQ with Lexington sauce. It was the best pork sandwich I’ve ever tasted. And of course loved the southern sweet tea!

Excellent ribs! They give you a ton of fries and the service is nice. Good was fresh. I suggest the hush puppies instead of the rolls and the cheese of the macaroni was good, but the macaroni was plain. Good value for the food and even has a stage for country blues entertainment on weekend nights.

Have eaten there numerous times and the food has always been great. I tried the Viking burger and was disappointed. First of all the marinara sauce on the burger was very salty and over spiced. The burger and the cheese was good. I will probably stick to the chicken strips from now on.

My boyfriend and I had the 2 piece chicken plate and the pulled pork plate. The chicken was four stars but everything else was three stars. I’ve seen reviews that the pulled pork was tender and moist but we found it a little bit dry. The sauces were good and we did like trying all of those. The coleslaw was just average and the green beans had some flavor but were very soggy. Apparently the fried food was better with my boyfriend liking the fried okra and hush puppies

My wife and I were visiting Roan Mountain and decided to stop here for a quick dinner. The place provided a great family atmosphere, the food was outstanding, and the ladies that brought our food to our table were very friendly. Great customer service and hometown feel at an affordable price. Overall we loved the place and will visit again every time we are in town.

Great Q! The pulled pork was great and moist. The choice of sauces was very good, especially the vinegar based sauces. We are visiting from Seattle and sampling the BBQ all the way from DC to Charleston. This has been the best yet. The owner and staff were VERY friendly

Carolina BBQ is probably the only place that I would feel comfortable giving a solid reccomendation, were someone looking for a place to eat. The service is seldom spotty, and 9⁄10 the food is solid. To «Jane B» and the othe person that wrote a novel. You’re not locals, so it doesnt surprise me that you nit picked every minute detail. Typical behavior from Floridiots.

Every time I’ve ate here it has been great, no matter what we order it is good. Our usuals are chicken tenders which are the best, Period! The fried pickles are my favorite of any that we get and we order those everywhere we go. The BBQ and all the sides are good and a great variety of sauces for use.

Ridiculousness on a plate. We will return here… every chance we get! We ordered the family platter. It came with a pound of pulled pork and two awesome sides, I highly recommend the potato salad and hush puppies. If you are in the Linville Falls area I recommend this restaurant… is a quick getaway for a fabulous dinner.

I really like this place. In some ways, it makes me feel like I’m on the set of «Hee-Haw», but I love it. The live music is always nice, and on evenings, you will see couples dancing. Their food is fantastic. I love the chicken strips, the barbecue plate, hush puppies, and their ranch dressing deserves its own mention. Their sweet tea is great. You should definitely try this place.

I have nothing bad to say this place is great. The fried chicken is to die for. You will wait about 20 minutes for it but I tell you it is worth the wait. The french fries are always delicious. The other food is quite tasty as well. The service is always amazing and accommodating. And if by some strange chance something does not suite you they will be happy to oblige you on getting you a solution. I love it.

Every year, my family visits North Carolina, and there are a few places we absolutely must visit. This is one of those places. The pulled pork is excellent and I love the fried okra. The number of different barbecue sauces on the table means everybody will find at least one they love. My choices for those are Mad Mustard and Lexington, by the way. Then there’s the fried chicken. Crispy skin and juicy meat underneath that somehow manages to not be greasy in the slightest. I’d eat here if this was the only thing on the menu. The staff is always very pleasant and darn friendly. It’s a pleasure to visit here, and it’s the one time I’ll be thankful my parents decided to «take the scenic route»(read: get us lost) because we found Carolina Barbecue.

I have now had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant a few times. My family has purchased the Family Fried Chicken Meal with is about 20 bucks. You get 2 amazing sides and 12 pieces of fresh fried chicken. It is of very high quality. I recommend calling ahead because they make this to order. I live in Roan Mountain and they package it very well in a large aluminum pan with foil on it. It is is hot and fresh when you get it home. I have met some really nice folks here. All the staff is super friendly, helpful, and they treat you exactly as you should be as a customer. You can ask about anything on the menu and they are extremely knowledgeable about the menu items. The restaurant is also very clean. Thank you so very much for providing a quality product and awesome service for a more than fair price.

Oh, dear. Where to start? Carolina BBQ has live music on weekends so we went to hear friends play. They were GREAT. Too bad everything else was horrible. The room: The«picking parlor» is an extra dining room with a rudimentary stage. Wooden chairs on a concrete floor make for dreadful background noise. As the main dining area does not have tables for large parties, a group attending what seemed to be Honey Boo-Boo’s After Party descended on us. They were completely uninterested in the music(INTHEMUSICROOM – you got that?) and spent their time dragging chairs around and talking over the music. The food: Credit to Carolina BBQ for managing to produce bland barbecue, because that is a first. It needed a lot of doctoring up with Texas Pete and something they call«mad» sauce, which oddly has no heat. It’s probably mad about the bbq being so greasy and bland. Fries were undercooked and cold in the middle. Husband got the Mac & Cheese which, if it is homemade, seemed to be in the sense of someone opening a can of Cheez-Wiz at home. Potato salad was the best thing we had. It needed salt. The help: OMG. OMG. This is an order-at-the-counter place with one cash register manned by 4 teenagers. It appeared to be the first day of work for every one of them, as there was a ridiculous amount of turning and spinning and talking and teaching with very very little action. Actual ordering — as in, placing an order for one bbq plate and one bbq sandwich combo, with 2 drinks — took the better part of 5 minutes. The people in front of us had an even worse time than we did. They wanted to add a Sprite to the order after Teenager #3 had already rung it up, and Congress had to be called back into session to get that accomplished. The word«cluster» is all I’ve got. Getting drinks involved 3 people asking us 4 times what we wanted. I wanted a sweet tea. My husband wanted half-sweet, half not. Teenager #2 labeled the cups. See my photo, which is the perfect summation of what you can expect overall. Go for the music. EATBEFOREYOUGO.

Got the bbq plate. Meat was good and really liked the mad dog and Lexington sauces. The sweet was too sweet. Recommend the okra and hush puppies as sides. Mac and cheese didn’t taste homemade. Overall not spectacular but decent eats.

Not to offend anyone, but I feel like MOST reviews are written by friends and family! Here is my experience: we went to this place after reading all these reviews. almost 5* out of 5, wow! I was expecting delicious BBQ everything! When we first walked in … the place is very simple, you order your meal like in a fast food place, and the girls bring it to you. When we asked for recommendation, the girl said everything is great(NOTREALLY)…yeah, thanks for recommendation. We decided to try a few items. BBQ pork, chicken, and cat fish(I should have know better to order fish at BBQ place! But the girl said its really good), we also got few sides: cole slaw, fries, mac n cheese, hash puppies, and potato salad. CHICKEN was GREAT! So flavorful and juicy, definitely one of the best we’ve ever tried. PORK was ok… a bit dry, and had to be mixed with sauces to make it more juicy, I’ve had much better(Luella’s in Asheville has the best pulled pork!!). FISH was horrible! SO fried, so dry. My fault for ordering fish at bbq joint, but I was curious… Big fail, don’t say«everything is great» when You KNOW, and you MUST know the fish is bad. SIDES: all 4 sides were very good, including hush puppies. My verdict: If you are going, don’t expect great atmosphere and ONLY order chicken with whatever sides. I would give pork another chance but NEVEREVEREVER get the fish!

Stopped in to Carolina BBQ based upon Unilocal reviews and found a little slice of country heaven. My daughter had the BBQ pork sandwhich with Lexington sauce which was excellent and I had the fried chicken. I asked if I could have my chicken cooked fresh and that was no problem for it to be done. It took a little bit longer, but well worth it. Honestly the best fried chicken I’ve had in a long time… fresh, juicy and cooked to country perfection! The atmosphere is a little like a fast food joint, but it didn’t matter– it was all about the food for me. While there we even had the pleasure of meeting the«Wooley Worm» emcee of 34 years from Banner Elk… nice fella– gave us the lowdown on the Wooley worm contest and how weather is predicted based on this little insect. Unusual to say the least, but charming & interesting all at the same time. I love this place and will be back next time in NC. Do not miss the fried chicken!

Very good chopped BBQ. They have 3 different sauces on the table. Sweet, Mad Dog and Lexington. The sweet was our families favorite. On my last visit, I tried the ribs. Very good. Baked beans were pretty tasty, but I wasn’t a fan of their slaw. My daughter said her green beans were really good. We drive from our condo at Sugar Mtn. to dine at Carolina BBQ. It’s worth the 13 mile drive.
