Delicious food! Can’t explain how wonderfully unique it is! Eldy delivers great authentic Italian food! Love this restaurant! I had the seafood linguini, YUM! Seafood or pasta are equally delicious! Vicki

Worst service ever. The food was horrible and the co-owner is rudest restaurant owner I’ve ever encountered. I will NEVER return there again and suggest you never go.

Beware!!! Bad food to match the bad customer service. If you want to waste your precious time, worry if the cook spit in your food because your waiter goes back into the kitchen with a food complaint and curses you out in Italian(yes I understand Italian, my uncle grew up in Milano) PLEASEGOTOTHISPLACE. If you’re compelled to THROWAWAYYOURHARDEARNEDMONEYONFOODDROWNEDINSAUCE, this is the place for you. We should have gotten up as soon as the waiter said their menu nor wine menu is correct or up to date. SHOULDHAVEGOTTENUP! Grilled artichokes — small, no meat, BURNT to a crisp, drowned in disgusting lemon garlic oil. $ 12.50 for nothing. Who charges entrée price for an appetizer? X2 -$ 25 down the drain!!! Spinach, egg soup — if you are possibly hyper tensive, this soup will kill you with the amount of salt. House salad — INEDIBLE!!! **kicker to this is, I sent back the salad informing the waiter it was yellowing greens and limp. He said«it’s free». That doesn’t give anyone the license to serve food that will get you sick!!! We apologized to our kid for the food we fed her. I’ve traveled Italy and never had food on such sub par level. Our loss(of money) is your gain(to a good meal elsewhere). I would like my money $ 70.00 refunded and time back!

I have died and gone to heaven! That is what somebody told me when o walked in and she was right! Sea Bass was amazing, bread is great, lobster ravioli, good wine. And the service was excellent! Came to see the Christmas Boat Parade and did not expect to land up at a great restaurant on Balboa Island.

Just wanted to give this place a shout out! We were«those» customers that came right at closing yet they were more than willing to accommodate us. They had short and simple menu to choose from I ordered the fettuccine Bolognese and it was quite good. My friend and his mom got the see food platter(I’m not a fan of seafood but I guess they seemed to like it). Big thanks to Oscar for great customer service and explaining the menu to us. This is a great place to come and have dinner or lunch!

Recently moved to Newport Beach and walked into Barolo Saturday night without a reservation. In every aspect of our restaurant experience Oscar and his crew excel. We could not have enjoyed a more perfect meal anywhere.

I really really like this place. One of my favorites and we travel all over the country. Do not go here if you are in a rush… at all. Everything is prepared fresh like many other places, but it takes quite a long time for food to arrive to your table. The server(a bit of an older man) was not attentive in the least. We actually wished that our server backs were our full servers. I have also had great service here!!! Every other time I have been, my server was a lovely gentleman who was very attentive and remembered my visits!!! As long as the food is good, I will continue to love this place and will bring others — glad I could tell strangers not to expect fast service though as I would have loved to have known before my first visit… we thought the first was a fluke… then after the 3rd we realized«it is what it is!»

Amazing as usual! The food was outstanding and the service was wonderful! I absolutely love this restaurant. I ordered one of their specials of the night, the pork chop with a side of pasta with mushroom sauce. The pork chop was the best pork chop I’ve ever had, so tender. And the mushroom sauce is like nothing I’ve ever had. You must go and try this!

Food — 5 stars Delicious items. We ordered two appetizers– tuna carpaccio and burrata. Main course– Chilean Sea Bass with pasta and Mushroom Soup. All the food was very fresh and delicious. There was no cream in the soup — amazing and authentic. Service– 5 stars This is a traditional Italian place. The food takes its time so you can chat and drink while enjoying the full experience. The owner made her rounds and ensured all the guests were happy. A perfect birthday dinner for my boyfriend! I’ll definitely come back.

Romantic, cozy environment with delicious, authentic Italian food. The staff was friendly and engaging, bread was fresh and warm, wine was smooth, and the food was perfect. I highly recommend Barolo By The Sea.

Barolo started our vacation and did not disappoint! Chilean Sea Bass and Halibut were good in Lemon capers sauce! Salad came with the dinner. Sourdough bread was exceptional. The wine list is average, but we all found selections we liked. Give them a try. We are east coast vacationers and are used to New York food, but found Barolo a pleasant dinning experience with friendly wait staff! Ciao!

I don’t understand all these negative reviews. Although I must admit, they did concern me after I was seated and checked the reviews. I suddenly noticed how it was almost 1 and we were the only ones in there… it had been open since 11:30…was it really that bad??? We decided to try it nonetheless and to my surprise the food was delicious!!! No joke! Hands down, the best Vodka Ravioli and Chicken Parmigiana I have ever had! Oh and don’t get me started on that handmade bread! It’s to die for! By the way, all lunch entrees come with a salad(yay it’s not extra!) and handmade bread. Good size portion meals. We ordered the two plates I mentioned above and split it amongst 3 people. The only weird thing to me, was that the waitress was in regular street close… and she has this really hard to understand accent. I was embarrassed because I had her repeat herself many times. Anyway, the bathrooms are clean, the food is delicious, the service is good and they have a television. What more can you want when you’re in the mood for Italian?

Mediocre food and borderline surly service. The bathroom was out of service so we were told to just go across the street to Starbucks. An apology for the inconvenience would have gone a long way. Just grab a latte at Starbucks if you’re hungry and eat elsewhere.

There are way too many good Italian choices in nearby Newport to ever deal with surly service and mediocre dishes. No pop or sizzle here. I would much rather walk a few miles, pay less and eat quality Italian at Mama D’s.

Came here for lunch on a Friday and it was dead, there was only one other table seated. My friend and I sat down and the waiter said he would bring us bread, it never came. My friend wanted the strawberry salad but the waiter took her menu to ask if the cook could make it and he said no, he said they were out of dressing. With the waiter’s unprofessionalism to not having raspberry salad dressing in stock(and not even suggesting another kind of salad dressing) we decided to leave. I really don’t know why this place has good Unilocal reviews as my experience did not reflect that at all. You’re not missing out.

We came for the balboa island wine walk, the best place we ate was ‘Barolo by the Sea’ this restaurant was exceptional, the owner/chef was very personable, we plan to go back for anniversary dinner! Overall great event and the highlight was this quaint spot, we will see you soon for dinner!

The food here is too die for. The service is beyond belief amazing! Everyone is so friendly Definitely try the seafood linguini… Huge portions and unlike other places they pile on a good load of seafood! And the BREAD!!! SOOOOGOOD! And usually I won’t even touch the bread in the basket at most Italian restaurants… And for dessert you HAVETO get their tiramisu! So moist and so perfect!

This is a hard review to write. I grew up eating Italian fare when this place was Georgio’s. Now I fear those golden years have indeed passed. The staff seemed to be working hard, but with only two waitresses and one bus boy, you could see they were falling behind. My party and I knew something was up when we were seated without menu’s. The menu’s were the subject of a good amount of talk thru the night as there were several spelling errors within the item titles and descriptions. The food wasn’t bad, but was not enough to bring us back, especially given the other choices within a walking distance. Our table ordered everything from lasagne to spaghetti, to seafood and even the oso bucco. All were sub par for different reasons. The homemade foccacia bread was really the only reason no one left still hungry, it was really the star of the meal. I think with a little nudge and maybe some help in and outside of the kitchen Barolo can regain some of that amazing tomato sauce studded glory.
