So healthy and scrumptious! The salads are amazing and the fresh ingredients couldn’t have been better! I love the outdoor seating, so quaint and cozy! A perfect lunch in the California sunshine!

We came here for Valentine’s weekend and it was a chilly morning. This cute little gem is tucked in between other stores in the strip mall but being tucked away doesn’t seem to matter as this place definitely sets itself apart. The benches and tables and the all around cuteness of the greenery gives this place a cottage-like feel. Food: I ordered a chai latte which was prepared to perfection. The orange juice was fresh and would be great for mimosas. So I went with what all the Unilocalers were raving about and got the orange ricotta pancakes body entices ricotta pancakes are light and fluffy but these left me disappointed and unfulfilled. First, I should note that I’m not all a big fan of zests so my opinion could be biased. These pancakes were very dense and a little tough and I’m not quite sure why. I also didn’t like the real maple syrup it reminded me of Bur Rabbit syrup that I had as a kid that I did not enjoy. The fruit was fresh and delicious and the potatoes were also good. The French toast special was stuffed with cream cheese and raspberries I believe. My guy did not enjoy it. He said it was like a sandwich and not like the typical stuffed French toast he’s used to. He was not a fan. When looking at other diners, the short rib burrito may have been the way to go.

An excellent spot for breakfast/brunch, I’ve been here multiple times and it’s a hidden gem in the Newport/Costa Mesa area. The store is «tucked away» in a strip mall so you won’t see it just by driving by. Just park your car in the lot and walk over. The place has large outside patio area as well as cozy inside seating. You’re tempted to secure an empty table, but there is a sign saying«find a table after you place your order.» You walk up to the counter to order, and then they’ll give you a number, which allows you to select your table. In the past, people would secure tables before ordering, so it was always hard to find a spot. Now the restaurant has changed it policy and it’s working out nicely. I’ve ordered their omelets, oatmeals, fresh fruit bowl, pancakes — everything is great. Their freshly squeezed orange juice is a bit pricey but so worth it. They have a great selection of teas and coffees as well. The crowd is usually young, 30+ singles, friends, families, etc. I see many young families with strollers as well. Being in Newport, it’s mostly white peeps(not sure why I’m mentioning that!) It’s always fun to sip a tea and people watch as well.

I went here with a girlfriend and our two little kids. The service was friendly and relaxed(there wasn’t a huge line– yet), and we opted to sit outside surrounded by the lush flowers and other vegetation. We waited a bit but the wait was expected as they had told me my order would take longer. Every single one of us loved our food! We got the avocado toast(can you believe my girlfriend didn’t leave one by for me to try?!), the oatmeal, the kids pancakes with blueberries added, and I got the orange ricotta pancakes. When the kids were done they were able to play on the natural environment. I also got a latte. The design was so pretty and he coffee was really good. It was a memorable time. If you’re looking for outstanding food, with a relaxed ambiance on a weekday morning — this is your place!

This is a super cute, trendy eatery located between two buildings in a shopping strip on 17th St. /Westcliff, between Irvine Blvd. and Dover. The set up is a little different; you basically stand in line and order at the counter, grab a number, then pick a place to sit down and wait for your food to come out. The layout is nice; you can sit inside or outside at a private or shared table. It’s dog-friendly, super casual, and the food is AMAZING! My friend and I recently shared the buttermilk pancakes with hot blueberries on top, and a a seasonal omelette topped with goat cheese. Holy Moly! I couldn’t stop commenting about how yummy every bite was! We also enjoyed Portola’s cold-press coconut cream coffee and a blood-orange chacha kombucha. So good! So good. It gets pretty busy on the weekends, but the line seems to move rather smoothly. We don’t usually have to wait to sit down either. The food comes out in 10 – 15 minutes, too.

Officially one of my favorite breakfast spots in the Newport/Costa Mesa area. It’s in a cute little strip mall off 17th street, a place that seems like only locals would know to go to. When you walk up, you’re greeted by a ping pong table with little kids laughing hysterically and having the time of their lives, and a cute welcome sign from Haute Cakes. They share the same area with a few other businesses, but their outdoor patio is in the middle of them all. There’s plenty of seating outdoors but if you go on a colder morning, there is also seating inside! We went on a Saturday morning around 10:30am, so the line was a little lengthy, but went by quick enough. Right off the bat a man who worked there came out with small little cups and coffee and was offering everyone waiting in line free coffee. I don’t drink coffee but I thought it was a great touch and a wonderful first impression of their service. As the line snaked inside, I noticed they serve Stumptown coffee(and cold brew) which I’m sure is a huge draw for many coffee drinkers. Walk past the display of beautiful pastries, and you’re ready to order. After ordering, grab your number and head outside to the patio(or stay inside) to find a seat. They kindly as that you not have someone reserve your table before you complete your orders. On a side note if you’re looking for somewhere to dress up super cute and go to brunch, you may not fit in here. Although the surroundings are extremely cute, everyone here is dressed extremely casually(likely because it’s their local spot). Nikes EVERYWHERE. I loved it. WHAT I GOT: — First of all, I was having trouble deciding because everything looked so dang good, and it didn’t help that every time a waiter would walk by us to bring someone their food, we wanted every single thing we laid our eyes on. This made choosing pretty difficult, but I ended up going with the… — Avocado Toast($ 9.75): Avo smeared on two slices of bread topped with tons of scrambled egg and some fresh cherry tomatoes. It comes with your choice of either fresh fruit of roasted potatoes, and I got the latter. The meal in total came to $ 10.53, but it was so filling and extremely delicious. Next time I come, I’m definitely either getting Pierre’s scramble or the orange ricotta pancakes(haute cakes). They both looked to die for when we saw them in person, let alone on Unilocal! Can’t wait to come back soon! :)

Since my previous 5 –star review was removed because I used the term«eye r@pe», I’ll add my new 3-star review. I rode my bicycle 12 miles to eat breakfast here. I showed up at 8:30am on a Saturday, while people were still cozy in bed. Walked up to the counter to order and a young girl tells me, «Our kitchen is closed — the dish washer is broken». Cut and dry. One thing that should always be present in customer service is reassurance. She or anyone else behind the counter that witnessed my perplexed face could have offered me to wait it out; or offered to wash my dishes because NOONE else was around. By the time I finished my coffee and tiny, yet delicious, sea salt caramel cookie, the dish washer was working and I was STILL starving. I’ll add that the one time I DID eat here, the cinnamon custard slice of heaven was to die for.

I am very pleased to say that I have found a very healthy brunch spot near the end of holiday season. Am I playing a prank on myself? A place that is a local hotspot and a health food brunch dive can not exist. Well, it does! In conjunction with the healthy eats, this place has a pretty sassy name along with a «Welcome home» feeling! Upon arrival, I was greeted with a courtyard area that great outdoor seating. Their menu is extensive and everything is picked and delivered fresh. I enjoyed a great latte and an avocado toast. The latte was made with almond milk and my avocado toast was served on a delicious slice of bread smeared with avocado then topped with eggs. Sweet cherry tomatoes were sprinkled on top and it was accompanied with fresh blackberries and blueberries! Did I mention they have mimosas as well? No matter if you are a frequent visitor or a newbie, Haute Cakes does the job in reminding you that they are always glad you’re there! Eat up and enjoy!

Got a Chai Latte with almond milk and a Gluten-Free Almond Butter Cookie. The cookie was surprisingly crunchy and brittle. Though I would have preferred it to be softer, it was still tasty. I can tell a lot of butter went into it! The Chai Latte was sweet and creamy. The presentation in the mug needs work but that lone barrista is doing a fantastic job keeping up with orders. Definitely long wait on a Saturday late morning. A server came to check on me because I only had a coffee and cookie in front of me and looked like I was waiting. I think she was concerned my order got missed. Thanks for noticing! Just waiting for my friends. I appreciate the attentive staff.

I’m lucky enough to live across the street from Haute Cakes, and for that I am very spoiled to dine there during non-peak hours with impeccably fast service. Even then, during lunchtime on weekdays, the café is often filled with other regulars, mostly Newport housewives catching up with each other over a cup of coffee and delicious food. Their coffee is Stumptown, which I must give bonus points, too. Most reviewers often write about their pancakes, but I absolutely love their recipes that incorporate their ribeye. I’ve tried their ribeye avocado burrito and their ribeye grilled cheese, and both are divine! If you’re looking for savory, but fresh Californian flavors, definitely check out Haute Cakes. They know what they’re doing.
