My sister and I visited Newport Beach for the first time. We wanted seafood and to have some fun. Thank you Unilocal reviews again! This place did not disappoint. It’s smaller than it seemed when we first walked in, but we were seated right away. There was live music(solo guitar artist) and the owner was our server and so friendly. She seemed to know everyone that walked in and it was the perfect atmosphere. If you signed into Unilocal, you got a free sangria. We definitely didn’t stop with just the free one though, it was so delicious. I ordered the pesto penne and my sister ordered the lobster ravioli. The sauces are homemade and creamy and perfect. The lobster ravioli was to die for and I’m still dreaming about it. We also had Thai Chicken Skewers that were amazing as well. The flavor in all the food was not lacking, the sangria was perfect, and the atmosphere of the restaurant as a whole was great. I will definitely come back if I visit the town again. Thank you so much for the great experience!

Adriana is the best server at this delightful treasure in Newport pier area. Having it open on the weekends affords us the perfect spot for a halfway respite on our Saturday bike rides.

Great place to visit if you like Sangria and Meatballs! Staff was very friendly and even friendlier with the servings of Sangria. Staff is also attentive and place is small cozy and dimly lit red. Reservations recommended. Was only there for apps and drinks. Mushrooms were whatever but enjoyed the meatballs and red sangria. Parking may b an issue so good luck :) will return soon!

The filet mignon meatballs and shrimp scampi appetizers are to die for. Such a cool restaurant!!! Love the beachy art work and great service. The owner is super sweet and has done such a great job with this restaurant. You can’t beat the food, prices, atmosphere and location. Can’t wait to go back!

Oh my! What an amazing experience The ahi tuna soup was perfect and unique.(I even had it for leftovers the next day and it was just as good.) The paired pinot noir was spectacular and the server, Jordan David was professional and stellar. You have to wind in and out through the kitchen in order to use the public bathroom. It’s small and dirty. They must fix that situation so I advise you to do all that before you arrive. The décor is tacky and dreary but looks vintage at the same time. Their food is so good and reasonably priced so it’s easy to overlook the bad. All the other places around them seem fun and good, but none of them compare to Sol Grill.

The ahi soup was the most best soup I’ve ever had in my life. We came from NY, and this food was amazing! Def. recommend getting sangria– be sure to «check in» and get your free glass, but order more after. It’s such a big portion and SOWORTHIT! Waitress gorgeous, and super sweet! Also– love the Jambalaya pasta dish!!! Soup is def a must, but the pasta dish was awesome too!

This place was not a disappointment. Great service from our server Greg N. I checked in on Unilocal and received my free sangria. Greg even brought me another one on the house and they are delicious. Let’s start with their amazing homemade bread they bring out. It was so good! Super soft and they bring a little oil and vinegar with it. We ordered the Ahi tuna starter. This was the first time I tried sashimi style fish and it was amazing. Seasoned well and came with ginger and wasabi. For our main course we had the Mahi Mahi Picatta. It’s a cream sauce and it was delicious as well. We shared a dish since it was late in the evening and we weren’t super hungry but needed to eat something. The Mahi Mahi came with rice(yummy) and broccoli(also yummy). Overall I would definitely recommend this place and when I am in the area again I will return. 5 stars all around. From ambiance to service to food. Very happy

My wife and I attended a marriage retreat and at the end, this was our date spot. We didn’t have reservations, but luckily there was an open spot. The waiter was was very nice and hospitable… blah, blah. Let’s talk about the food. It was AMAZING! Started out with complimentary bread… delicious! Then out starter plate was the Shrimp Scampi Style… SUPER delicious! I want to drink up the sauce. My wife ordered the Newport Linguini and I ordered the Sol Salmon… AWESOMELY delicious. The chef/cooks made a masterpiece! There was a celebration in our mouths! I highly recommend this spot.

My wife and I go to Del sole every time we visit Newport Beach. Even though Delsole is next to Sharkeys which is quite loud and can be, exhausting. Once you walk in the door it’s a cozy, warm, inviting atmosphere. I don’t hear any of the noise from next-door and feel like I’m at home. We really like the happy hour; they’ve got a good red wine for $ 5! By the time my wife and I walk out of there we spend $ 40 and have a fabulous dinner; red wine and fillet mignon meatballs. How can you go wrong with that.

A little wait, but understandable because it is a small place. Now onto the food… I ordered the Jambalaya pasta and Sangria. The food was absolutely tasty. The sauce was cheesy and tasty. The sausage and chicken just added the perfect addition to the already. The Sangria was also pretty good. I had 2 glasses. They had some dude playing a guitar in the corner. While he had a great voice the volume was just a bit too loud. This was my first trip to Newport Beach and I would highly recommend this spot to everyone!!!

Visiting Sol Grill is the most amazing part of our trip. Misty, Greg and Adriana are fantastic and the food outstanding. The ambiance is wonderful! When sitting at the bar its like sitting in a cat bird seat. Watching the team at work is fun and you are a part of it. Misty and her dedicated team are effortless at making you part of the family. We are forever distant«regulars»!

I came here on Valentine’s Day and had such a great experience. My fiancé and I were unfortunately late to our reservation because of the horrible parking situation in the peninsula but Misty was fortunately able to fit us in. First of all, before reviewing the foods I just want to commend Misty on being such a boss lady!!! She runs this show perfectly and is on top of making sure everyone at this restaurant is having a good experience. Anyone who complains about«slow service» or anything like that needs a little compassion and understanding in their life. How many restaurants can provide such great food and service with a minimal number of servers and staff? I really loved the free Unilocal check in Sangria, which wasn’t too strong but really complemented the rest of the food offerings. The complementary breads are so fresh and the spread they come with is out of this world. I personally ordered the Sol Penne which comes with chicken, and my fiancé ordered the pesto version of the dish. Both were extremely delicious and we nearly wiped the plates clean! If you’re looking for a beautiful and relaxing meal time close to the beach, this is definitely the place for you.

Since I just turned a year younger and we were planning on a day trip celebration to Newport Beach, Sol Grill seemed like a good fit for me. Thanks to my fellow Unilocalers I’ve found the perfect restaurant: great atmosphere, beautiful décor, wonderful food and drinks, reasonable prices. The restaurant was a bit hard to find for us, it’s right inside McFadden square, near the beach, there’s meter parking. Parking isn’t great, but we did find a spot on a side street. I love their décor, the cool beach motif paintings on the walls, the lighting, the detail they put into, it’s something cool to look at in every corner. The place isn’t big, but very cute and charming, so I’d recommend reservations. Their prices are lower for Newport area and if you get there during their Happy Hour(every day from 5pm-7pm), you’re in luck. We had their Sangria(they make it in the house) for $ 4, the glass size is generous. It’s also very good, it’s right behind Sangria we had in Spain or in upscale Spanish restaurants in US. They have small plates during HH, for $ 3, $ 4, $ 5. We got their filet mignon meatballs for $ 4 since everyone praised them. They’re good, but not something amazing. I loved their portobello gravy and I’m not a gravy kinda of a girl. For HH they have some of their entrees for $ 12, which is great, the selection is very good. My husband got their Newport linguini with mussels, clams, shrimps, the sauce was a bit spicy, just the right amount and you need it. Everything tasted great. I enjoyed my Lobster Ravioli, soft, tasty and their vodka lobster sauce is delicious. We shared their Vanilla Pot de Crème for dessert, light and creamy. It’s not the kind of place where you get huge portions, but for us, that’s fine. They also offer you nice bread and olive oil and balsamic vinegar from the house. Service is good, if you want fast, this is not the place. But they were attentive, nice, discreet, they didn’t try to push things on us or come to our table too many times. Just right. Also, you don’t get here the kitchen noise you get in other restaurants, the loud clearing of tables, they do it discretely, which is nice. Their bathroom is through their kitchen, kinda funny, you get to see the chef in action. Very enjoyable place, my kinda place. Where you get to enjoy your nice food and drinks, where you can have a conversation, where you can hear some cool music in the background. No loud TV-s — they have one at the bar and they keep it on mute. Just a cool vibe, relaxed atmosphere. I loved Sol Grill, I’d recommend it if you go in the area. Perfect for a b-day, anniversary, date or just a night out. Places like these are rare and they can make your b-day more special.

We got here during happy hour(Sunday) and ordered Newport Linguini and and a Jamalaya both $ 12 each. The Newport Linguini came with mussels, clams and shrimp. I asked them not to put any mussels and they said it wasn’t a problem and would add more shrimp. Dinner was delicious and the service was excellent. My husband was already saying we should come back here again. We are not from here and will only be in the area 5 days. Make sure you check-in if you like Sangria. You get a free Sangria with your check-in. It was big and it was delicious!
