Been here many times and always very happy with the food and service. Last time I went with my husband the Friday before Valentine’s and they promptly have us complimentary glasses of champagne for the occasion. Seared salmon is a highlight and they serve one of my fav glasses of wine(oyster bay sauv blanc) by the glass for a reasonable price. Order any hand roll and they will make it with care and it will be delicious :). Highly recommend for amazing sushi and a fun night out!

They were so nice! The sushi was fantastic and fresh. Above all that, they were amazingly sweet to my son and he was having a blast entertaining everyone. We will certainly be back.

My boyfriend and I have gone here quite a few times. We really enjoyed this spot because there was never a wait, all the servers were really friendly, and their sushi always tasted fresh. The last time we went we decided to order a chef’s recommendation in addition to what we were already looking at and as usual we informed the server of my shellfish allergy to ensure our roll didn’t have any inside it. After we had finished our first roll he asked if we needed anything else, forgetting our recommendation roll. We reminded him and he brought it out a bit later. it had shrimp all over it. I didn’t want to say anything since it had already taken awhile and my boyfriend enjoyed it. This time we came back hoping to have better luck and although it had been quite some time the server remembered us. We asked for another recommendation roll and he told us what we had gotten the last time, my boyfriend informed him I was allergic to shellfish and said we wanted something without it, he said it wouldn’t be a problem, he would let the chef know. We had our soup and the first roll and after a bit of waiting the recommendation roll came out. He told us it was a California Roll with white fish, fried onion, and raw onion on top. confused I asked if there was shellfish in it and he said no. I looked at the roll and could tell there was crab inside, as it has a very distinct look. I always make servers aware of my allergy when I go out and understand that it can be challenging accommodating for me, but it’s frustrating when I remind the server multiple times and he seems to not even know what shellfish is, as he said there wasn’t any in the roll and it was very obvious there was crab in it. Allergies are serious and it’s so important to be educated when working in restaurants. Although we really enjoyed this spot, we probably won’t be coming back.

I really do love this place it’s conveniently next to my house and it’s always fresh — I just want the owner to see this complaint so they can fix it The last few times I’ve called to place a phone order they have taken the phone off the hook because they are too busy. Not only are they loosing business but how many people just try somewhere else and don’t call back next time. As a business owner I would really mad if my staff did this. I still drive over and place my order but I’ve had to wait up to 30 min when I could be at home. :/

Best sushi in town. Super fresh. Great staff. Be sure to buy the sushi chefs a beer it improves service. Albacore, uni and Toro are all great. Also great saki selection.

It was my first time at wasa and I must say it was a pleasant visit. Sushi in Newport Beach is of course on the pricy side. I got the crunchy roll and the salmon skin salad which was amazing! Sit at the bar and you can chat with the chefs! The group next to me bought shots for them and the waitresses, how festive!

I come here often for lunch, it is always good and the fish is fresh. The service is excellent, the sushi chefs are friendly and attentive as are the servers. Kozo is my favorite sushi chef, and my favorite dish is the ahi tuna tartare.

Had excellent sashimi lunch special — nice variety of fresh fish, miso soup and salad — good value and great service. Would recommend it!

Melt-in-your-mouth sushi! We came here with friends who are from Japan and let them do the ordering. We tried various sashimi, sushi, and rolls. Everything was really fresh, and my favorite sushi by far was the toro belly. We shared a couple of bottles of cold sake that had really nice floral hints to it. Even the green tea ice cream was delish, and served with fresh fruit. My only complaint was that it was a little pricer than other sushi joints, but this won’t keep me from returning as the quality of the fish was superb! I recommend sitting at the sushi bar, as the chefs will let you know which fish is the freshest. It’s also fun to watch them make everything in front of you!

Do not come here if you want«real sushi» this place is overpriced with sad pieces of luke warm«sushi» and it makes me mad that places like that get away with their prices and food quality –we 6 different dishes arranging from sashimi’s to rolls to hand rolls. ALL were overpriced, less than stellar quality, luke warm fish and not good at all. –Our«specialty handroll» had 1 slice of tuna, brown looking salmon, some crab with some sauce and it was $ 9 a handroll. Ridiculous. Don’t come here. there are much better sushi places to go to. You can even go to Fuji Grill and get better sushi than this place!

Every time we come here the service is extremely slow! It took 45 minutes for our appetizer to come out and our sushi came in at a snails pace after that. The food is good. But $ 6 for a ½ cup of cucumber salad? I could almost stomach the price(it is Newport Beach) but it’s another thing to get such poor/slow service.

I have to give credit where credit is due. Not sure why but it had been awhile since I had fresh marbled thick slab of salmon(drool) and this place delivered. The sashimi I ordered, salmon and albacore, were fresh. When salmon is fresh, it tastes like butter yum. And very clean location. Only thing is I’m big on ambiance and that was lacking here. I wouldn’t really come with my friends here for a fun sushi night out, more so if I was passing by, by myself or wanted a quick bite to eat with someone.

Came to this place for dinner tonight and our experience was great! My family and I ordered a bunch of rolls to share and tried their interesting sweets on the menu. Service was phenomenal! Food was good, although definitely on the pricier side. Presentation and ambiance were amazing as well though! For food, we ordered the spicy scallop roll, crunchy roll, spicy tuna roll, and salmon roll. Everything was on the above-average side. Spicy tuna and salmon roll were a bit on the ordinary side, but the fish were definitely fresh. Crunchy roll had shrimp tempura, avocado, and fried flakes on the outside. Definitely good if you like the crunch, although also a bit ordinary. Spicy scallop though was really good! It’s basically scallop wrapped in seaweed and rice, with spicy sauce. Absolutely delicious! We also got a chance to try the mochi and the tempura ice cream. Mochi was ordinary. Basically comes with two flavors, each mochi piece cut in half. They add a bit of fruits in the center, so the presentation is definitely really cute! But it’s $ 6, which is a bit pricey considering what you get. Tempura ice cream was interesting! Hard to eat, but tasty for sure. The outside is fried and the inside is filled with green tea ice cream goodness. They made it shaped like a flying tennis ball, which was honestly really cute! Overall, a good place to get decent food, with amazing service and beautiful décor. If I ever want to feel fancy and get some good Japanese food, I’ll definitely come back!

This is my go-to sushi place in OC. The fish is always fresh, and they always have toro. I would PASS on their rolls, and just stick to the sushi and sashimi. Oh, and the oysters are delicious! It may seem«pricey» … But you are paying for super fresh fish, a nice ambiance, and culinary art. Service was spot-on. Love this place!

Wasa Sushi is undoubtedly the best call on the bluffs. Orange County is blessed in the world of sushi. Nana San, Bluefin, Sushi Noguchi… I can go on for hours. The point is that it gets to be difficult comparing them when they are all vastly different. Wasa on the bluffs ups the ante and brings a unique style to an area that may not appreciate it. The interior is nothing if not clean. You will not get a single waft of fishiness in the air. The service varies depending on the volume of business, but I have yet to leave upset by it and I will say that it may be understaffed for its relative size. The rolls stray from the traditional and I enjoy their inventiveness. The Spectrum, Catalina and Cucumber Wrap all satisfy. As for sushi I tend to stick with Ahi Tuna with Wasabi Cream, Seared Toro with Ponzu and the Treasure Sampler. The item I always end up ordering however is the Sashimi Salad. The salad consists of the chefs choice of cuts on top of mixed greens, citrus & soy vinaigrette, a gigantic mound of bonito flakes, along with masago. I love this salad during the hot summer months as it is light, clean and fresh. The cucumber salad and uni shooters are also always a welcome sight. Bring a date, it adds to the fun.
