Yonatan Mahller, MD, PhD

I found Dr. Mahller through Unilocal.He is easy going, personable, kind, and patient. He has never rushed me in the few times I’ve been there. He even called me personally twice when having a nurse call would have been appropriate. Watch out ladies, he’s a charmer… I kinda have a crush on him. But, of course, he’s married with children– too bad ;)

I was referred to Dr. Mahller by my primary care doctor for infertility, and I’m grateful to have found his office for my OB-​GYN care. As an RN myself, I’m lucky to have the insider tips as to which physicians are the best, and my experience with Dr. Mahller has solidified all of the positive recommendations I’d heard. He takes the time to thoroughly answer and explain all your questions, and listens to your concerns. When I mentioned other health problems I’m having unrelated to OB-​GYN, Dr. Mahller was kind enough to even recommend other specialists to possibly see. I’ve never felt rushed during an office visit, and always leave feeling reassured. Most importantly, it’s obvious that he truly cares for his patients and has their well-​being a top priority.
Kristen, one his nursing staff, is wonderful! Having been referred to this office for infertility, I felt both nervous and low-​spirited on my first visit. Kristen greeted me with a warm smile and even had me laughing within the first couple minutes of my appointment. I instantly felt in better spirits and less scared. After my first visit with Dr. Mahller, I found out that I needed to have a minor outpatient surgery. When I had a question about scheduling my surgery, I asked to leave a message for Kristen and she promptly responded in just a couple hours. In my recent experiences at other doctor’s appointments, I find that many office staff seem distant and disinterested in their patients. It’s so reassuring to find some one like Kristen who cares about her patients and obviously enjoys what she does.
I highly recommend Dr. Mahller and his office. You cannot go wrong!

I originally started seeing Dr. Mahller as an OB patient when his office was much closer to my home. And when he moved further away, I decided that I liked him enough to put some extra motoring time in. Dr. Mahller is very thorough and personable. Since he’s not one to rush you, and he’s very popular, he can run a little behind at times. I recommend you make your appointment first thing in the morning if you’re super-​busy or get really cranky when things run late.
Since this was my first pregnancy, I was a little worried about every little thing. When I called and wanted to come in the same day to have an issue evaluated, Dr. Mahller saw me that day. When I called about something (that was in hind-​sight NOT urgent), Dr. Mahller called back that same day with reassuring advice. Actually, I think that may have happened twice!
His partners at HM Medical are also very good. You can’t go wrong with this doctor.

Dr Mahller is a fantastic gynecologist. I love that he is so kind and is so current with new technology. My yearly exam is quick, comfortable, and even pleasant!
I even referred my aunt to Dr Mahller. She had breast cancer and had so many complaints of vaginal dryness and itching and Dr Mahller cured her with a laser he has (I think it is called The MonaLisa Touch). She adored him also and now she refers her friends to him!

I had my second son with Dr mahller and I wish I would met him with my first, he such a great Dr from the beginning to the end, he have patient for you and he take the time to explain everything so you will know what you dealing with, he’s gentle kind have good bedside manner thoughtful and the best deal ever!!!
In the delivery room he also was super relaxing and he gave me all the options and let me keep my birth plan and to take me time it made my delivery a lot more fun lol

I was a patient of Dr. Mahller before he joined this group in January 2016 until now and I can’t say enough amazing things about him.
I first became pregnant last June 2015. I randomly picked a doctor through my insurance with St. Jude Medical Center (Dr. Johanna Su). I had such a terrible experience with her that I went online while still in her office and found Dr. Mahller who had amazing reviews. I scheduled an appointment with him and was first seen in July 2015. It was that day that I found out I had miscarried without knowing it. Dr. Mahller was there for my husband and I through it all. From finding out about the miscarriage all the way through the D&C and now with being pregnant again with our baby boy!
Dr. Mahller is so genuine and cares so much — it really shows. Every time I have a question or issue, he responds immediately. He has taken care of issues with my insurance without me having to do a single thing. My appointments aren’t rushed — he takes his time with me and asks about my life and even sometimes shares stories about his newborn baby as well! I really am so fortunate to have found him. I even referred a good friend of mine to him and he just delivered her baby boy last week. She also had nothing but great things to say about him.
I have to mention a couple of other people in this post. Sue, the office manager is AMAZING! She is also great at following up, calling me back if I have a question and listening to any concerns I have. Katherine at the front desk is so sweet and we have had hilarious conversations about our pregnancy experiences (she banned me from googling things since everything freaks me out lol). And I can’t remember the name of the ultrasound nurse but she is amazing as well. She was aware of a mixup that happened that wasn’t really anyone’s fault and did everything she could to resolve it. Lastly, Dr. Candice Howe. I had a terrible migraine that was going strong for 5 days straight. I finally decided to call the after hours line one night at around 9:30pm and Dr. Howe called me back in minutes. She was so kind and extremely knowledgeable and even called in a prescription for a pregnancy-​safe medicine immediately. I was available at my pharmacy within 30 minutes and has eliminated these terrible headaches. Amazing.
Pregnancy is a big deal and with this being my first baby (at 38 years old) I obviously had fears and concerns. Knowing that I am in good hands is the best thing I can ask for going through this process. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Mahller and his amazing staff at HM Medical.

Dr. Mahller, is incredible. .. seriously, incredible! He is ridiculously patient and kind, very considerate, super smart and just an all around good guy. He never talks down to you, never makes you feel inferior and will be the voice of reason when your pregnancy fears get the best of you. He never makes you feel rushed and will always listen to what you have to say. His patients are truly his number one priority. Dr. Mahller was there for me since the beginning of my pegnancy and safely delivered my son on 2.19.16. I’m so grateful for the exceptional prenatal care I received from him and would recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone looking for an excellent OB/​GYN.

So we found the doctor via Unilocal after the disaster with our other OBGYN and he’s been amazing. I don’t know anything about what makes a OBGYN a «good» doctor medically but he seems to know what he’s talking about, he’s kind, patient, funny and answers any questions you ask him. He makes us feel good and that’s a big deal with us as we’re dealing with something as nerve racking as a pregnancy. The only knock against him is his front desk is sorta slow and the front desk is difficult to contact, but, for us that’s a fine trade off.
Oh the ultrasound lady (Katie) with long black hair is amazing I mean amazing. She’s funny, reassuring, interactive and she empathizes.
I highly recommend this place so far.

An update to my original review: so I had a baby! Dr. Mahller was there for me throughout this pregnancy but unfortunately was not able to deliver my baby who came a few days early. We had scheduled an induction but luckily I went into labor naturally a few days early. Unfortunately this meant that Dr. Mahller was not available for the delivery but was available by phone and communicated with the nurses and on-​call doctor the whole time I was in labor. Dr. Mahller showed up to the hospital bright and early the day after I gave birth and continued to check in on me and offer support to me & my husband as brand new parents.
My pre-​natal care was awesome and I stand by everything I wrote in my original review (Dr. Mahller has a great sense of humor, is compassionate and understanding). Luckily my insurance is accepted at the doctor’s new practice/​location in Newport and I’ve visited him for my post-​natal check ups.
When you go see Dr. Mahller, it’s (painfully) obvious how busy he is. A little bit of patience goes a long way (you waited three trimesters for your baby to arrive, you can wait a spell to be seen by the doctor). Despite the volume of patients and appointments, Dr. Mahller always takes time to chat, follow up and counsel his patients. The great number of patients that Dr. Mahller has and the number of patients willing to make the commute out to Newport is a testament to how dedicated the doctor is to his patients and vice versa.

Dr. Mahller was my OB & delivered my daughter 4 weeks ago on 12÷21÷15. I couldn’t have asked for a better Dr. than him. I decided to go to his office after reading all his amazing reviews on Unilocal,& they’ve really all proven to be true. He is knowledgeable, kind, has great bedside manner, & he never rushes you out of your appointment. He makes sure all your questions and concerns are answered before you leave. His office gals are very sweet & always helpful, & I am sad I won’t be able to see him for my postpartum care as he’s switched practices and no longer accepts my insurance, but if you are in the greater Newport area and plan to deliver at Hoag, Dr. Mahller is the Dr you’ll want to see!

I love this physician. He is so caring and considerate. I definitely will be keeping Dr. Mahller as my perm physician and I am excited he is moving closer to me in Newport Beach. His office staff is nice and his bedside manner and professionalism is just so down to earth. I have never met such a compassionate physician in my life. You can tell he truly loves what he does.

This review is waaaay overdue. I came across dr. Mahller from the reviews on Unilocal when i was searching for a good dr to deliver my second child. My first dr was a horrible experiance so i was very picky the second time around. It was a long and stressfull process to get signed to the insurance that dr mahller accepts but it was all worth it in the end. Dr mahller was the kindest dr ive ever met. His bedside manners r amazing and i love how he will actually sit there and talk with u rather then get in evaluate and get out. It really bums me out he didnt get to deliver my baby b cuz he was on his last day of break around christmas last year. I had to have dr ackerman deliver my son which was a good experiance cuz he was also a good dr. My son was born with gastoschisis and dr mahller really helped me cope with finding this out mid pregnancy. Unfortunetly dr mahller recently sent out notices that he is moving to a different facility with a different insuarnce group that im not affiliated with. I was truly looking forward to having dr mahller deliver any future children. Im truly bummed that hes leaving at the end of the year. But thank u for all those weeks of ur caring attention dr mahller. I truly appreciate it.

This review is long overdue; I have to first mention that I am an Orange County transplant living in Riverside County. I make the 2.5 hour drive (round trip), to be treated and seen by Dr. Mahller.
I first met Dr. Mahller when I was miscarrying in early 2014. The original OB that handled the pregnancy/​miscarriage had qualms about prescribing Cytotec to help pass the miscarriage, long story short, I ended up with an infection and required a D&C. Dr. Mahller was quick to schedule me for the procedure, and performed the D&C with zero complications. I recovered quickly and had plenty of follow up visits to alleviate any concerns I may have had. Dr. Mahller was and still is very attentive with his care. All phone calls and appointments are answered/​seen by him, personally.
My husband and I have been trying to conceive since then, with a few issues. We’re currently working with an RE and urologist at Loma Linda, but we plan for Dr. Mahller to deliver our very expensive, designer baby.

I discovered Dr. Mahller on Unilocal.What first appealed to me was his great reviews and his late office hours. What I experienced is so much more. I found a kind, considerate, knowledgeable Doctor with a supportive staff. I never feel rushed with Dr. Mahller, he takes the time to get to know me and my family and answer all of our questions. This may cause a delay in his schedule, however, he is worth it. After all, babies run on their own schedule and mommies need a lot of TLC.

Dr Mahller and his staff are great! His great reviews steered me in the right direction when the OB I was seeing was not working out for me! He is very personable and spends quality time answering questions and making sure you are taken care of before he leaves the room! I was feeling very anxious that I’d be pushed into doing things I didn’t want done during my delivery and he assured me we would make choices together. He delivered my baby and I couldn’t have asked for a better doctor. Thank you so much for all you do Dr Mahller.

Dr Mahller is so awesome! He listens to your every need, very respectful of your decisions and wishes! When I have another child, I will be going back to him!

My wife gave birth on 08/​27/​2015 @ 12:41am we are so grateful with Dr. Mahller and his staff they made this process easier for us I would recommend anyone who needs an ob/​gyn for a regular check up or any pregnancy related issue to get in contact with Dr. Mahller and his staff! Dr. Mahller was very friendly, thorough, comforting and professional during my visit for my yearly well check. He is gentle in his exams and explained everything. He also answered all of my questions and put my nerves at ease. Great doctor, great staff! Highly recommended.

Yeah he’s cool. Perfect bedside manner, personable, professional, personality. I found him on
last year. Not looking for anyone special when I moved to OC. Just needed my annual n BC. I believe I got super lucky! Doctor up to date on everything n knows his stuff. I take the extra drive to orange from HB just to see him when I need him.
Extra perk he always remembers u n makes u feel super comfortable. Wait is never long, he calls back after hours when u need him, squeezes u in for those busy schedules n he listens! I Couldn’t be happier. You go dr. Mahller you go.

Both as a Fellow Colleague in the healthcare arena and as his patient, he is GREAT. Has GREAT bedside manners, really takes the time to listen, surgery that I had went great, staff were great. No waiting 2++ hours in the office for your appt.
My ONLY gripe… his office is WAYYYYY too freezing.

Finally a OBGYN who actually spends the time to listen! Recommended from a good friend, I made an appointment with Dr. Mahller after finally «letting go» of my long term doctor. So happy I did. Dr. Mahller is very warm and friendly and seems to really love what he does. What was so important to me, is that he really spent the time to listen and I didn’t at all feel rushed through my appointment — something that all too often happens. Definitely will continue to see him — happy to have found such a great OBGYN.

An excellent Doctor! Dr. Mahller cares about his patients and is committed in giving the best care possible. He takes the time with each of his patients and will answer all of your questions. He is laid back and has a great sense of humor. His team is also incredible and professional. They are always willing to go the extra mile. I love that I felt completely comfortable.

From the second I walked into Dr. Mahller’s office, I fell in love with both him and his staff! A couple weeks before my first appointment with him, I had some spotting and went to the ER. Dr. Mahller and his staff were able to move up my appointment and see me sooner. I was told in the ER that I most likely had a blighted ovum and would miscarry. Dr. Mahller was very patient and understanding, even tough I was an emotional mess… turns out ER docs were wrong and I am now almost 18 weeks. Dr. Mahller has the best bedside manner a patient can ask for, always has a smile on his face, and takes his time to make sure and answer any questions or concerns you may have. The staff is always helpful and friendly as well!

I found Dr. Mahller on Unilocal when I was 10 weeks pregnant. I’m currently 22 weeks pregnant and couldn’t be happier about my decision. This is my first pregnancy.
Although I’m usually a pretty laid back person, pregnancy can be a very intimidating, scary time in a woman’s life! I’m learning how everything works as I go and Dr. Mahller has made my experience 100 times better. He is patient, kind and laid back. He’s willing to answer your questions… even the ones you may think are stupid. He has a WONDERFUL bedside manner. I have never once felt uncomfortable in his care. It takes a really special person to make a pregnant woman feel calm. Especially a first time mother. The bottom line is that I always feel that I’m in safe hands.
I wrote this review not only because Dr. Mahller and his staff deserve a great review, but because YOU deserve it as well. If you are an expectant mother or even a woman looking for a new gynecologist, look no further! Trust the reviews you see here. I did and it paid off! I will update my review after the baby is born…

Amazing doctor! Highly recommend. Attentive, professional, made us feel comfortable and well taken care of. I had a great pregnancy experience the whole way through. Office staff is very sweet. Will be going to doctor Mahller for baby number 2 :)

An update to add my delivery story: We went in Sunday night 9pm for a cervix softener to help put me into labor, already dilated 1 cm. By 1−2am Monday they started me on pitocin since I was contracting on my own and the pit would help it speed things up. Labored for 20hrs without an epidural and finally broke down and got one so I could have energy to push. FFWD to 11am Tuesday — 9.5cm and the damn epidural wasn’t working anymore. Worst pain of my entire life. I had been in labor so long. I knew that Dr Mahller was due to be out of town for work and was so bummed when we basically missed the window of time to have him available for delivery — who knew how long I’d have to push. Was about to start pushing when my daughters heartbeat dropped from 160’s to like 65 so they stopped everything rushed me into a c section — literally took like 3min to get in and prepped, I was in a daze. Dr Mahller took it upon himself to call my room directly and tell me he was coming back to deliver my baby girl. I just started crying. In a situation like that, where you have no control and are so scared, it makes it even scarier to have someone come in you’ve never met and tell you they’ll be performing major surgery on you. I was so thankful and really put at ease knowing he was going to be the one performing the surgery.
By 11:32am she was in my husbands arms as they were stitching me up. Turns out I had an infection from my water being broken so long (common occurrence), and she was sunny side up (head down, but face was up and not down) which caused her to not want to come out in a more timely manner.
I can’t thank Dr Mahller enough, for saving my daughters life and for always making me feel so safe and secure in his care. He stopped by the hospital a couple times during our stay to make sure we were ok and getting everything we needed. I will definitely recommend him to anyone in search of a new OB.

After alternating between multiple OBGYNS due to unstable grounds in terms of moving, I stumbled upon Dr. Mahller by way of ZocDoc. He seemed exceedingly exceptional when juxtaposed with the other recommended pool and I booked my first appointment with haste.
I was accommodated accordingly despite my extremely progressed pregnancy — given the fact I was entering my third trimester with multiple overlooked issues by my prior doctor, I found it quite surprising how he immediately cleared everything up and tended to my particular needs at that time. He is teeming with knowledge and has an excellent bedside manner; reassuring calls were received immediately after test results came in and so forth.
I strongly recommend Dr. Mahller to anyone looking for a comforting pregnancy experience accompanied by incomparable care — even if you fail to live within close proximity, a long commute is well worth it.

Finally found the perfect gyno! I heard about Dr. Mahller through ZocDoc and was able to be seen the very next day on a Saturday! You can tell he’s genuine and takes his time with the patients. Not to mention, the front desk staff is incredibly sweet!
Absolutely going back to visit him again!
