We ordered take out from here tonight for dinner. They were prompt and had good costumer service. The military discount is a nice touch too. The chicken pad thai is pretty bland. It didn’t have any lime to it at all(that I could tell). However the ploy noodles my husband ordered were delicious. I didn’t care for the thai fried rice either. I would probably just try other noodle dishes/entrees than pad thai & fried rice.

Loved this place. They knew how to make a spicy dish without using too much hot oil. Update. They are not closed!!!

Authentic Thai. Had the red curry… Thai spicy. Ten bucks for lunch. Mama took care of me. Be back soon.

5*‘s we Loved it ! Best Thai in Hampton Roads We found this place via Groupon special & we’re glad we found it. REALY good, and reasonably priced Thai food. We ordered both of our dinners to be spicy and they were very spicy & very good. My wife had Thai tea and she enjoyed that with her meal. We were very impressed with the food and service.

The food here is average, the only thing that brings me back is the roast pork noodle soup strangely. It’s quite addictive

The location is just off Jefferson Ave, near Oyster Point. We tried both beef and shrimp pad dishes, along with a couple common appetizers. Overall the food was served warm with the decent spiciness of any corner Thai restaurant. Compared to the competition, here in Hampton Roads, Ploy Thai’s dishes didn’t add up. From the consistency of the noodles, to the seasoning, Ploy’s not quiet ready to challenge the better known options locally. That being said, the service is nice and the sitting area was very clean. If you’re in a pinch and looking for more of a fast food taste… prepared in a short order, Ploy may be worth a try. But they have there work cut out to compete with the other Thai options… Wes

This review is based on one dish — the Thai Dish I use to rate all Thai Restaurants — Chicken Pad Thai. Staff: Incredibly friendly Pad Thai: A little wet and overcooked. The taste wasn’t spot on, and there was no lime. The presentation was great though! Disappointing to see no Jalapeño on the Spice Rack, but I was impressed they had one at all. I may try other places before coming back here.

It’s great to see more Thai restaurants opening in the Newport News area… it makes my visits here even more enjoyable. Tucked away behind the IHOP, you’ll find a tiny 8 – 10 table Thai spot, with minimal decorations. You can tell the chef has years of experience cooking southeast Asian cuisine. All of dishes were well-prepared and quite tasty. Noodle dish portions were large. As mentioned in another review, Ploy Thai tends to be on the spicy side(great news). Medium spicy level was hotter-than-average, and I’m guessing their Thai-spicy level would require extra water and napkins. Our table tried Pad See Ew(Vegetable Tofu, Chicken), Red Curry, Panang Curry, and Basil Chicken. Even our mild-spice patrons had tasty dishes. Minor quibbles: I’ve tasted richer Panang curry, but this was still very good. Noodles could have been cooked a tiny bit less, and I’d take more vegetables over the larger noodle portions in our Pad See Ew(I’m guessing you could ask for that). Good value for lunch.

I was new to the area and just discovered Ploy Thai and Im happy I did. The food is wonderful, I had the Ginger deluxe with chicken medium spicy everything tasted fresh and it was just the right amount of heat. But be warned they use fresh peppers so their medium will be hotter than most places. The chickens wings with basil chili sauce was crispy and so good. I really recommend this place as your go to thai spot.

Very fresh and authentic food, some of the best in the area. They make it pretty spicy(a plus for me) so be aware when ordering. The food and service are both excellent and make it a hidden gem due to its size and lack of decoration. Only down size is the lack of booze.

This is the second Thai restaurant I’ve tried in Newport News. Nothing to rave about. I order Drunken noodles as a benchmark on the quality of the restaurant. The drunken noodles here were very greasy, and lacked some key ingrediants such as broccoli. The flavor was good, but I can tell I will have to take something for indigestion after this. The service was very good, but I was the only person being served during lunch. I’m missing the Thai restaurants back in Alaska. For some reason, Thai food in Alaska stands far and above any Thai restaurant I’ve had in the lower 48. Maybe it’s because Alaska is closer to Thailand? I gave Ploy 2 stars because I agree with the 2 star quote«Meh. I’ve experienced better.»

The reason I joined Unilocal is because of this restaurant. It’s a new small restaurant not many know it. I knew Ploy Thai because of groupon. It is RARE to find Indonesian-Malaysian-Singaporean food in the area so «Thai» is the closest taste to «home». I have been living in USA for 10 years(moving many times, hubby in military) and PLOYTHAI is THEMOSTDELICIOUSAUTHENTICTHAIFOOD I’ve ever tasted so far. The Pad See Ew and Pad Thai as well as all other food they have by far are like authentic asian homemade food. They use fresh Thai Chillies for spicyness. If you like spicy, I recommend to mention using THAICHILLIES instead of «chilli powder». Friendly and great service. I am sure if I can take Andrew Zimmern or Anthony Bordain from Travel channel eating here with me, they would forget they are in USA ;0)

Wow! Great Thai food at unbelievably inexpensive prices and VERY nice people working there! This place is hidden bethind the IHOP off Jefferson near City Center… the food was really great and it’s definitely the most inexpensive Thai food I’m come across on the Peninsula. We had the Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, a green curry and the eggplant… yes, after eating our meals we ordered additional food to take home and did NOT regret it. The ONLY thing I would be careful of is that their«hot» is about 2 steps up from regular«hot»…just be forewarned if you are a lightweight when it comes to heat. Order it «mild» and you’ll be fine… Two thumbs up!

This is a very small and hidden restaurant. It remind me of a «No. 1» Chinese place except they take your order at your seat like an actual restaurant. I wouldn’t exactly call this place a hole in a wall, but it certainly is a small spot. The girl that served us seemed to be the only one that«waits» on guests. She was nice and prompt to refill our drinks. I’ve tried their pad thai and their red curry. Their pad thai was a bit under seasoned to me; I’ve had better. The curry however, was pretty fantastic! I think it’s one of the best ones I’ve ever had. Overall, its a great lunch spot! Especially with their cheap prices.

My wife, son, and I were looking for a great place to have a Thai lunch. We just happened to find Ploy Thai. Everything we had was exceptional. Thai Soup, Thai Bean thread salad, and all three entrees were some of the best Thai food we have ever had. Friendly and quick service. We will be back for sure. We even had to try their desserts. The BEST!!! Second visit today and it was as good as our first time as described above. Thai wonton soup was flavorful and fresh. All three dishes again were exceptional. My wife and I also tried their Thai ice tea. We were very please. I actually had two. If you like Thai food you will enjoy this place. It seems like a mom and pop place and that’s what we like the best.
