The live music here is EVERYTHING! Customer service is really slow at least on Friday when I visited. The food was food tho. I got crab cakes, mac n cheese & collard greens. It came with cornbread which is delicious. I will definitely come back.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. The best crab cakes ever. The scenery is beautiful and the live band me every Friday never cease to amaze me.

First time here about an hour in and I regret not knowing about this place before hand. I’m feeling the atmosphere the food and live music

A friend and I went here last night had a blast. Live music with a good choice of songs. The staff is real friendly. For starters we had sweet and warm corn bread then 2mins later our food was ready ribs so tender it fell off the bone. We were there for maybe 30 mins but I enjoyed every minute of it

Food was lousy. Had the trout. Was dry and not fresh. Should have been a dead giveaway that we were only people in restaurant. Would not recome

I went here with a large group for a dinner during our family reunion. I liked the atmosphere and location; it is tucked away in the older area of Newport News right next to the shipyard. It is an older building that has been fixed up, but a lot of original features were kept. The hours are more for in-line for lunchtime and after work Friday. Since we had such a large group(10+), they seated us in the back room with no wait. It was nice because we were allowed to move the tables the way we saw fit and had a live feed on a big screen TV showing the jazz musicians playing up front. The saxophonist is really talented, my daughter couldn’t stop dancing! They usually play there on Friday per the locals. The all-you-can eat fish fry was good, but there were a few bones. No problem for me, but I had to break apart the fish for my 4-year-old. The ribs were absolutely delicious as was the peach cobbler. Not a long wait on our food; just long enough to know it was made fresh. This place is worth checking out, especially if you want to sit back and enjoy some great jazz music with a meal on Friday night. Couples friendly location.

No one writes good reviews in VA. I guess the Unilocal thing is only cool in California. Anyway I will single handily map all the great eats and terrible ones in VA alone since no one wants to help ha ha. This place I found by mistake because nobody walks around this area its a ship yard section of town and its not the best neighborhood. It has odd hours of operating but just go after 4 o clock on a Friday and it should be open because the rest of the week it is closed. The décor of the building is very unique. A lawyer owns the restaurant and has put up some black history of the town Newport news. Now on to the food its a mix of things fish and barbecue. I’ve not tried anything other then their special of unlimited fried or boiled halibut and coleslaw and mash potatoes and this superb corn beard. Overall great enviroment and great bar. My friend said the ribs were awesome. I’ll take his word for it.
