How can you go wrong? Beautiful 7 mile plus or minus rock, with many exits to beautiful streets if you don’t want to do the whole thing. The view is breathtaking and the walk is relatively flat and easy.

Awesome spot to visit if you’re in Newport for any reason. Views are amazing, good exercise, and a great way to kill a couple hours… for free. Park off Memorial drive and spend a few minutes on the beach before you head up to the Cliff. And don’t bother counting the 40 steps thing… I counted, twice… trust me, there’s 40!

Beautiful oceanfront walk in Newport with the added bonus of being 100% free. The route is 3.5 miles long and can be accessed from side streets along the way if you don’t want to pay for parking at either end. You’ll be rewarded with crisp ocean air, beautiful views all around, and upfront glimpses of all the historic mansions lining the route. It can get a bit windy and chilly even in the warmer months, and even though it’s well maintained, there are parts that might seem just a wee bit nerve-wracking given that the pathway is literally on a cliff’s edge and that there might be lots of people here in the busy months. Nevertheless, it’s one of the must-see, must-do things here in beautiful Newport.

Breathtaking walk along the cliffs at Newport. I was lucky to be in Newport with friends on a beautiful day, so the Cliff Walk was an obvious activity choice(though I initially suggested helicopter tour, only to be shot down by everyone else!). Newport is one of the most beautiful places in the United States, and the Cliff Walk is insanely popular, unsurprisingly. To be honest, I’m not even sure how long it is. We did about 2 hours, and then had to cut off to make our train from Providence. As well as the stunning sea views, there are also the famous Newport mansions on your other side. Some of them made me very jealous indeed of the people who stay in them. If you’re in Newport, this should absolutely be your first thing to do. There’s so much beauty to take in.

The Cliff Walk is total paradise. This is a great place to go for a romantic date or to take an afternoon walk with the family. The downside is the parking. During the peak of summer, you have to be lucky and aggressive to find a parking spot. Discover one, get lucky and you’ll be rewarded. The view is breathtaking. There are some parts of the walk that are easy and some that are quite challenging. You have to be careful for no matter how many railings and signs have been posting, it’s still a cliff by the ocean. There are dangers lurking and people have been hurt. If you are careful, you won’t have any problems. You can walk the whole area or pick your spots. You walk by the Newport mansions as you go and they are amazing to look at. Outside of parking, this is a really cheap adventure in Newport and you can’t say that often. Take lots of pictures.

Although the Newport mansions are spectacular, the cliff walk is absolutely breathtaking! The public access walk(it’s free!) is located on the eastern shore of Newport. You get the best of both worlds when doing the cliff walk-the architectural magnificence that is the mansions of Newport and the beauty of the natural Newport Shoreline. The entire walk is about 3.5 miles(make sure you have on appropriate footwear!) but it is a pretty easy walk. There are access points to get on and off if you would prefer to not do the entire 3.5 miles. Be careful and watch your step in the more rugged areas(located on the southern end of the walk) as one member of my party fell and was gifted with quite a nasty gash on her leg afterwards. Make sure to bring a jacket too as it can become windy along the shoreline. Definitely take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to enjoy nature(and get some amazing pics!)
