We visted this place for some quick drinks in the middle of the afternoon, but decided to try their spicy clam chowder. My boyfriend and I both agreed that this was our favorite clam chowder and the best we ever had! The bartender recommended the spicy new england clam chowder to us, which also contains bits of celery and cayenne peppers along with the original ingredients. It was so good and there is a perfect amount of spice where it won’t make you sneeze or beg for water/milk. The bartenders were very friendly and gregarious as well. It is a great atmosphere and nice place to visit.

Had lunch there today, the staff is great and very friendly food was delicious! Everything came out as we ordered. We are both long time gluten free so finding a great GF place can be a challenge. We will definitely return in the future. Recommend the lobster mac & cheese

We wanted to have a night out with friends on a Saturday night and the gaslamp was s great find. Fish and chips was delicious, the Coleslaw was amazing. Others in our group had the salmon, Caesar salad with salmon and a Gaslamp burger, everyone said their food was very good. The waiter was attentive, and had a good sense of humor. Entertainment began at 9:30pm and we didn’t expect much from a single guitar player, we were very surprised. He played music from the 70’s-today and across different genres. We’ll be going back back.

First time here after numerous trips to Newport. This was a last minute decision which will now be on our list of places to dine at when we’re back in town. The service was excellent and food well prepared. They even brought out a sample of the soup to see if we would like to order it. Great spot to check out when you’re in town.

I went with my boyfriend and his parents on a Saturday night because the wait for a table was significantly less than the surrounding pubs(Brick Alley and Buskers, etc.). For a Saturday night, the wait was not bad and the place was still pretty full. The food was alright. I ordered the steak and pasta, which was noted as a signature dish. The marinade on the steak tips was great. However, the pasta, which was Alfredo, was fairly bland. I think I should have tossed the tips in the Alfredo so flavor up the pasta a bit. With that said, it’s a pub and not an Italian restaurant. The service was pretty good. There is nothing remarkable or astounding. The waitress did the usual check ins. As for most restaurants, I wouldn’t mind if the waitress came within a couple of bites of the meal, rather than five minutes after.

Great pumpkin beer and excellent fish and chips. Stumbled on location and very happy we did. Pumpkin cheesecake a must. Awesome service.

Worst food ever eaten, chicken Parmesan totally under cooked, wife’s salad was ok, ok expensive drinks but stay away. The nearby restaurants were full, Gas Lamp was almost totally empty.

Had a pretty good meal, but by Newport standards it left something to be desired. I’d imagine it gets pretty busy during peak tourist season with its location right on Thames Street but on a Wednesday evening after labor day there was no wait and no crowd.(In hind sight maybe now I know why.) We got table right next to the open front of the restaurant with a beautiful breeze and great people watching! There beer list wasn’t anything fancy and they advertised«Mojito Madness» outside offering 6+ types of mojitos when come to find out they only had 2 types left(take the sign down maybe? haha). The waitress was friendly and accommodating but didn’t seem very knowledgeable when asked questions about the«beer of the month» and salad dressing choices. I ordered the warm pear salad with steak tips cooked medium. The pear was very under ripe, it was LOADED with red onions and the beef was way over cooked for what I asked for. Instead of medium they were well, almost dry. My boyfriend got Cajun chicken Alfredo, which was good but the reheated leftovers were sitting in a huge puddle of oil. Not very appetizing. Over all not a BAD dinner but with all the other fabulous restaurants in the area this wouldn’t be my first choice to return to.

Great service, good food, nice beer selection, but the cocktails have a very TGIFridays vibe… less than top shelf booze with too much simple syrup. If we went again, I’d order my liquor by brand and keep it simple. It’s not the place to get seafood, but you can definitely get some decent pub type dishes. The lobster bisque was the favored dish at our table.

Everything we had was wonderful! The calamari, lobster bisque, 3 blend mac and cheese, wasabi tuna wrap ! Loved the live music, the service was great, and we even bought a t-shirt!

Being from Newport, I am surprised and curious for why I have never been to Gas Lamp before. There really is never a line, it has good live music and the windows open to Thames street… which is even more of a question for why I hadn’t tried it before now. It all sounds so perfect! I was in town with a bachelorette party, and Gas Lamp was able to accommodate all 30 of us with little notice. We were given the upstairs to ourselves, which was perfect and allowed us to be rowdy and fun. The menu was very appealing, with several dishes that I wanted to try, and lots of fun special drinks. I was between the pizza and the mac n cheese, and ended up with the mac. The mac was delicious, and the servings of everything were MASSIVE. Like every dish was enough for 2 – 3 people. Looking at everyone’s dishes, I wanted to try all of them. Everything looked well cooked, well seasoned, and good presentation. Gas Lamps ability to accommodate such a large and loud crowd, and provide us with great, fast and fun service, as well as delicious food, was impressive. I am sad I just came here now for the first time, and am excited to have a new spot in Newport! If all of the other places are too crowded, or you want to try somewhere new. i recommend trying Gas Lamp!

Service was terrible. Do NOT go here. Being a table for 11 people they literally didn’t bring out 2 of them until everyone else was finished. It took me asking 4 times with the waitress who just said«the kitchen is really busy». I had to ask 3 other servers before the owner came up. Worst service of any restaurant I have ever been at. If there was a negative star, I would have given it.

It’s been over ten years since I last visited Newport. The Gas Lamp Grille is a cozy and friendly bar & restaurant with the most satisfying fish & chips I have ever eaten. Our waiter attended to us at the very beginning, but once we were finished and ready to check out, he was missing in action. It took a while for him to show up again, but my fiancé and I had a pleasant evening with good food and strong drinks.

1st time in Newport and this restaurant does not disappoint!!! Had the ruby red martini and the classic mojito… when the bartender makes drinks like I would make them you can’t go wrong. The baked Brie with apple pear chutney is amazing. Great salad choices with multiple protein toppings available. Overall excellent meal and experience.

A cozy restaurant located on Thames Avenue near the Warf. While parking here is never easy it is well worth the walk, even in high heels and freezing temperatures. We were seated promptly upon arriving, and our drinks arrived shortly after. We ordered an Warm Apple Butter Cocktail, a cider and apple schnapps drink warmed. As well as a Warm Caramel Apple Martini. The menu, had a variety of meal options. We chose the Pink Vodka Pasta and the Steak Tips. I cannot rave enough about the Pink Vodka Pasta with Chicken, it had a subtle garlic flavor and topped with thin shreds of Parmesan Cheese. The chicken was tender and paired nicely with the Pink Vodka Sauce. I will be ordering this again! AMAZING! Sadly, I cannot say the same about the Steak Tips. They were advertised in the menu as being marinated and topped with mushrooms. However, it was a dry and extremely chewy steak, with little to no flavor. This was paired with a garlic mashed potato and a side of squash. The mashed potatoes were flavored with garlic, but were not topped with anything, just served with butter and sour cream. This was not worth the money spent on the meal. Luckily the Pink Vodka Pasta was enough for two. Overall the atmosphere, the drinks and one of the meals was well worth a Valentines Dinner.

Anytime the bartender asks me, after I half-embarrassingly request an espresso martini in a bar surrounded by beer drinkers and a live band setting up, if I would prefer my martini on the lighter or the darker side(I ALWAYS end up pointing out to bartenders that I like them darker) — this place immediately earns 5 stars. Ps for a Newport place, it’s not stuck up at all. Totally down to earth peeps, cute babes, and college football on TV at 930p on a Saturday night. It’s going to get busier, and louder, I can tell. Thanks for the two martinis, impressive bartenders, and slight buzz for my ride back to Boston Wish I coulda stayed longer!

Here for rest week lunch. Had soup du jour and their chowder as first course. Good soup. Consistency is thicker than traditional Newport chowder. 2nd course was calamari. Not thrilled about it. It was not crispy but soggy. Too much oil or wasn’t drained well. I prefer lighter batter. Batter was also tasteless. One of us in the party had the warm pear salad. Good raspberry dressing bit pear was room temp and not warm or soft. Final entrees were seaside Reuben, burger and spinach thin crust pizza. Big servings but also disappointing. Burger meat is warm, bun is cold. Pizza crust was good, sauce was too cheesy and salty. Good service though.
