I stopped at king Park for a walk and to look for a geocache. It’s a great place to walk with a nice view of the waterfront. This is a great place to spend some time in the sun.

A sprawling park along the water not far from downtown Newport. There is a nice gazebo where concerts and events are often held. The statue of Rochambeau is nifty and supposedly points at Yorktown, the end of the Revolution. There are also good fields for activities here and lots of space for picnicking.

I feel like this is one of those parks that I forget about for a while but when I remember it I end up going fairly frequently. There is always a great view of the Newport Pell Bridge and boats. There are benches scattered along to relax and soak up the beauty of Newport. King’s Park has a playground, bathrooms, tables, an extremely small beach area, loads of open space and a gazebo where music is played on Sundays during the summer. It can be difficult at times to park here and during the summer the traffic may be terrible. But this park is in a rather quiet spot with such a unique view that it makes the drive worth it.

Super little park with a lovely view of the harbor and the bridge. Ball fields, benches, picnic tables and even a statue of a French nobleman(who helped George Washington defeat the British). Parking(if you can find it) is free and unless there’s a ballgame going on, there is usually plenty.

Great little park that is a long strip along the water with views of the Newport Bridge and all the boats in the harbor /Newport’s main waterfront. Two ballparks, playground, gazebo, public restrooms, very small beach for swimming. Not much shade besides the pavillion. Check out the weekly free concerts during the summer. Also, this is where everyone goes to view the fireworks on the Fourth of July.

Great views cool music and a green general King Park, sometimes called Newport Harbor Park, is a narrow strip of land that has fantastic views of Newport Harbor, Fort Adams and even the Newport Bridge. During the summer the waters of Newport are filled with huge and impressive sailboats and yachts and the park is usually packed with people just enjoying the views. Besides the great natural attractions the park also has some benches, picnic tables, a baseball field, and a bandstand and rotunda. Also a little beach, free boat ramp and wonder of wonders, clean public bathrooms, Well at least they’re clean most of the time. On the south side is a cool statue of General Rochambeau, the French nobleman who helped the Americans in the Revolutionary War. Near the greenish looking general is the bandstand where free concerts are held during the summer months. Every Sunday various bluegrass, country, blues and jazz performers fill the air with their melodious creations. With the cool breezes off the water and boats in the background, it’s hard to imagine a nicer place for an outdoor concert. King Park is a small place that is easy to miss because it blends in with the harbor so well. Unfortunately the one thing that King Park doesn’t have is much parking. A parking lot for locals with stickers but everyone else has to take their chances finding something on the street. On Sundays during the concerts you can forget about finding anything close to the park but there is always some place if you don’t mind a bit of a hike. Newport is such a great place to walk that just getting to the park will be half the fun.
