It was s beautiful day, by the water, great place. Unfortunately this was by far, the worst service I’ve ever had, ever. We waited for 1 ½ hour wait for food and waitress stopped by our table 3 times. The manager apologized, but disappeared. This place has so much going for it, but what a joke. Stay away.

I wish I could say I liked this more, but the DJ they hired this year f’ing blows. Doesn’t read the crowd, is generally obnoxious and doesn’t take requests in a timely fashion. Used to like going out here before.

The Deck is what happens when a bar owner/manager watches too many episodes of Bar Rescue and decides the 1600% profit they make on alcohol isn’t enough and they need 1800%. By far the weakest, most overpriced drinks in Newport. The bartenders are great but they’re too handcuffed to do anything about it. It feels like the kind of place where you can lose your job by giving away a Pepsi. It’s a shame too because the location and setup is fantastic, but it’s just a Friday/Saturday night spot only. You walk by the Landing on a sunny Tuesday afternoon and it’s packed. You walk by the Deck which is a better location, a better setup, and has better food, and it’s empty. It’s just not the kind of place where you can post up and relax for awhile. Maybe it’s done intentionally, who knows, but it’s just a shame because it could be so much more.

What happened? This used to be decent meal but clearly only good for having a cocktail after the beach.

Great views, good service and the food, while not the greatest, is absolutely acceptable.

Went with 2 other girls on a Friday night, 2 of us got charged a $ 10 cover and the 3rd got charged $ 20 because of the 10:59/11pm cover change. SORIDICULOUS. 1 minute difference and we were in a group of 3. The bouncer could have waited until the next group of people behind us. Not only was the bouncer rude but after I complained I was directed to a manager who brought me to the owner. The owner was extremely arrogant and rudely pulled a $ 20 bill out of his wallet and told us NOTTOCOMEBACK. Mind you, we are LOCALS and work in the industry. I am disgusted with the ownership/management and do not recommend wasting your money on a cover to be served warm canned beers and watered-down vodka served in kiddy cups. trust me, they water down their liquor, we have friends that work there. GOODLUCK!

** BARTENDERSSTEAL ** I gave the bartender 5 dollars and asked for 4 dollars back for a glass of water. He started filling other orders while I waited for my change. When I followed up with him 5 minutes later he waived me off and gave me a second glass of water. Like is a glass of tap water supposed to placate me? If this sounds unreasonable please consider that our tab was 200 dollars deep at that point and we were tipping 20%. Come here if you want to be hustled by sketchy bartenders scamming you over for 4 dollars.

Jesus Mary and Joseph. We had a 9pm reservation. Eventually sat down at 9:50. Deep breaths. Begged for a bread basket that was dropped at the table around 10:15. At this point we were just starving… approaching hangry status. The poor servers acted like they’d never waited a table in their life. We tried and tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. Swear! Fast forward an additional 18 minutes for cocktails to make it to the table. Meals eventually came out at 10:40. I know I’m a demanding New Yorker but, ehhhh, this wouldn’t fly anywhere. Skip the deck…

Like finding places off the beaten path that are surprisingly good, however this wasn’t the case. It was restaurant week and I think the staff was overwhelmed. Service was poor and slow. Even my wine glass had lip stick on it, chef wasn’t willing to offer a vegan alternative which was unfortunate. Lighting was harsh as well, not very calming as it felt like you’re under spotlights. Wish I had more positive things to say but hope this helps them make some improvements.

If I could give negative stars I would! This is my first one star review and it was earned! At first we were off to a good start they carried my fave wine! Cake bread cellars! Everything went downhill after that! We had a party of four adults and two kids. Long story short the food for two of them people never came and then when it did show up more than an hour later the waiter said ta-da like it was magic or something. The managers were just as bad. I have never received such poor service in my life. I come to newport often and have family there we will never return and tell our friends not to either!

I wouldn’t come to this establishment for the food. They have a great location, but I can’t get over the food… nothing special. The positive side is that it doesn’t look like it will ever be crowded, so come here if you want to be served quickly.

This is absolutely not a four-star experience. The service was good which is represented with my two star review. We had a party of eleven and everyone agreed the food and the restaurant was an epic fail. The lobster in the lobster stuffy had to have been cooked the day before… so bad the pork chop special was dry and the wine reduction sauce was terrible. The mussel appetizer was loaded with mussels unfortunately they were 70% empty and no were to be found.

The clam chowder tasted like Campbell’s soup. Sweet potato fries weren’t anything to write home about either. The lobster roll was awesome though, but a little pricy for lunch. Came here while visiting Newport on recommendation from a buddy. The deck was great atmosphere to eat since it was a gorgeous day. Just get the lobster roll and enjoy the deck.

Worst service I’ve experienced in a long time. Waitress unfamiliar with menu and hard to get any server’s attention. Management was confrontational after complaining about a $ 500 birthday dinner that was less than spectacular. Maybe too picky coming from Manhattan but will definitely never come back here.

I having been boating and staying at Westwind Marina for 6 or 7 years. I have been here for drinks. Drinks with lunch. Drinks with lunch then dinner. Finally last night we(20 of us) ventured inside for a DINNER. It was beyond amazing. The staff and chef were outstanding. The food was outstanding and the service with a broad smile exceptional!!! All of the above while a cat 1 hurricane was hitting us. Tammy, Arly and the rest of the folks at this great great restaurant deserve a huge round of applause on all the improvements and movement toward greatness!

If you’re looking to freeze your tush off in some frighteningly terrible spring weather, then The Deck is definitely the place to do so. Located on the tip of one of those hidden Newport piers, this pearl of a restaurant will surely satisfy even the most frozen of taste buds in the winter, or the most melted of papillae in the summer. The star of any dish at The Deck(yes, you can dine inside an actual room… not just in a tent) is the daily-concocted risotto. Regardless of whether you’re plate is adorned with beef and creamy, luscious cheese risotto or seared tuna and a smooth, umami spring green seaweed risotto, you’re sure to fall in love with the 19-minute rice dish(Is it 19? Or 12? I don’t make it… I can’t remember.) A small word to the wise, ask the chef to go easy on the salt — if you don’t, you might just end up with something that tastes a bit like creamed, texturized salt, which is in no way appetizing. I promise.

Thanks to Unilocal I found this place during a day trip to Newport. It was located just down the side street from another of my go-to spots, Obrien’s, which was perfect. I decided to try the lobster roll(Newport Style) after reading the other reviews and I was not disappointed. $ 17 for a lobster roll is pretty average. there were big chunks of claw meat, it was very light on the sauce and served on a buttered toasted hot dog bun. Obviously I only wish it had been bigger but I did love the fact that the sauce was simple and there were not any chopped up pieces of celery or anything like that(blechh!) I would definitely recommend this place and would love to return and try some other things on the menu.

I can’t comment on this place on anything else besides the weekend night scene. Being right on the water and right next to another bar which you are able to walk back and forth from, this is the to go place for locals, college students and any other young vacationer. There are people everywhere and it gets pretty crowded. They play music but it’s so loud you can’t really hear it. Also, it takes a really long time to get a drink. I gave up after 5 minutes of waiting. It is a go to place if you want to meet people and have fun but be prepared to wait for drinks or better yet, find someone to buy one for you :)
