Impeccably decorated, very homely feeling once you step inside the store. Almost impossible to leave without purchasing anything. Geared toward tourists, hence all souvenir and general merchandise are overpriced. very friendly customer service.

A general store for the modern Newport Newport has changed over the decades. The water front used to be a very seedy place with lots dark, rowdy bars filled with strumpets, floozies and light skirts. Drunken sailors prowled the streets looking for fun and adventure.
It changed over the years and turned into a tourist city and the home of the rich and affluent. You can still get you head thumped if you wander into the wrong place but for the most part it’s a city a family can enjoy a nice vacation or buy a really nice home if you have a few extra million burning a hole in your pocket. The General Store at Long Wharf reflects the modern Newport. It’s not a «real» general store but more of a touristy type place. Lots of souvenir thingies and clothes that say Newport or funny sayings on them. The store does have some cool and original crafts that makes a trip inside interesting and fun and they seem to have a lot of humorous kitty and dog signs and items. You can also get a supply of junk food and beverages in the store and a sundry collection of necessities that are frequently required while on vacation. An interesting place to browse that is certainly a step up from the usual tourist trap. I always stop in to have a look when I’m in Newport and I usually find some cool little crafty thing to take home. However I don’t think the general store has anything a floozy, strumpet or drunken sailor would be interested in. A general store for the modern Newport
