I’ve grown quite fond of this little shop. I last used them to select some wines for a team dinner(foie gras, cassoulet, cheeses) I was hosting at my house on the island and, as I’d hoped, the selections I was offered turned out to be about as close to perfect as I’ve ever experienced. The owner was friendly and helpful and definitely made me feel like my business was important to her. One word of warning, though… they’re a bit pricey, so if you’re in search of a «great deal» there are probably other, higher volume stores you might want to consider. However, if you’re looking for the personal attention that I think is appropriate when selecting the perfect $ 30+ bottle of wine, this place might be just right.

I love this little wine shop. I think it’s definitely the best one in Newport. They have a great selection of wine from smaller producers which means you are always trying something different from the usual run of the mill wines big brand wines that you get everywhere else. The staff are very friendly and knowledgable, not in the least bit stuck up about how much you want to spend. They have some fantastic wines which don’t cost the earth. I love the fact that their Italian white wine selection contains more than just Pinot Grigio and Gavi. Was happy to see Greco di Tuffo on their shelf and one of my favourite white wines, Falanghina for $ 20; bargain!

Everywhere you look, there’s a shelf with the best wine or beer on it. The selection is everything I want from a «fine wine» shop. But most importantly, the staff was incredibly friendly. All smiles, jokes and laughter; these folks understand service and hospitality. And they get really excited about the products on their shelves(which, again, are amazing). One visit and I’m hooked.

Wonderful little wine shop full of fantastic American and European wines. One of the best selections of French wines I have seen in a while. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will help you find the best wine no matter your taste. The wines are very reasonably priced.

My favorite little wine shop in Newport! The small shop is beautiful and does an amazing job of maximizing all the space with a fantastic selection of wines(and even some craft beers!). Newport Wine Cellar is located in one of the most adorable(and pricey) areas of town. yet their prices are still totally reasonable. A hefty selection of bottles under $ 20. The staff here is fantastic, and are knowledgeable about all the bottles in the store. Don’t be shy. ask for their help. Even if you do not know a lot about wine they will make picking out the perfect bottle a great experience. To top it off, they wipe your bottle clean and package it beautifully in their own bags and tissue paper(perfect for an easy gift). Local Newporters or visitors that are here for a while should check out their website. They have wine tastings Friday and Saturday evenings. and weekly wine classes! I have even taken cooking classes in town and the wine selection is always provided by Newport Wine Cellar. Parking in the summer can be a tad difficult. If there are no spots out front, you can usually find one right down Catherine street. Off season is much easier. Bonus: The owner, Maria, also owns Le Petit Gourmet next door. If you come to the wine cellar, you absolutely have to check it out as well. You can even bring along your wine to enjoy with a cheese plate(or get one to go)! Locals tip: They have a loyalty program. If you think you will be back(and why wouldn’t you want to?), go ahead and sign up.

FTR? You don’t say. I can see how Newport Wine Cellar might fall between the reviewing cracks. It’s tiny, with a stylishly short selection of reds to whites, including a hefty splash of oranges and rosés. Bubbles in the cooler, along with a tight but right inventory of craft beers and ciders. Two things to note, otherwise the length of this review may actually fill the perusable space of the shoppe: — The incredibly reasonable prices(especially for the B&B-rich area) are grease penned directly on the bottles. Purchase is made; amount is wiped off. Bam — good to gift. — Tastings get thrown down urr Friday and Saturday from 4 – 7 pm. Get there early. Because it’s small, see.
