Bridge Liquors

Definitely the best beer store in Newport, hands down! I was in town for a business trip, and nobody else had quite the selection or friendly staff that Bridge Liquors has. The young man helping me was very knowledgeable and was able to steer me toward some great beers. It’s not in the nicest part of Newport, but the location is convenient and the selection is unmatched in the city.

Wonderful service, good selection (especially given the size of the place) and knowledgeable staff. They are helpful and always have great suggestions.

I discovered Bridge Liquors on Twitter as I feverishly searching for the limited release of Goose Island Bourbon County 2013 and they had posted minutes earlier their stock had been delivered. Their online presence is SMART and complete! I quickly linked to their webpage and found a phone number for their business.
I called and because adrenaline was pretty high I was stuttering and blurting out my words, but the manager/​owner was kind and patient and explained they had a limited supply. He could almost hear my concern as he quickly offered to place 4 bottles of the Coffee Stout behind the register for me. I gave him my first name and my cell phone and with a promise to be there in a couple of hours, he said not a problem.
About an hour later I arrive and it was easy to find, just off of RT. 138. It is a small store, that can easily be missed especially in the dark. It is in a building strip type of location, small parking lot directly in front of the store. I see the Goose Island Black Friday poster on the door and my heart lept :)
I walk in right up to the counter as I see the gentleman, who I assumed was the one I spoke to on the phone. I squeak out my name. He smiled back (not judging… because I am sure I looked a bit manic). He quickly retrieved the stock he reserved for me and then showed me the rest of the stock in the event I wanted to purchase more than 4… uhhhhh YES, of course I did. While he wasn’t trying to distract, he wanted to be sure that I saw some of the other craft beer offerings they had. For a small store, he sure had a lot of craft beer gems, Allagash, Maine Beer Company and Goose Island of course.
Their business savvy ways, excellent customer service and decent selection have locked me in as a loyal customer and follower on twitter
. The only draw back is that because they have sooo much in stock, the aisles are very narrow. It’s worth the trip and bridge toll $$.

Probably the all around best liquor store in Newport. First of all, the location is great. Very easy to navigate to and there is always plenty of parking in the lot. They have such a great selection here… and they are always happy to order something special for you if you can’t find what you are looking for. Really cool staff here as well. They offer up some great recommendations and are super helpful.
Most importantly about this place is the price. probably the lowest on the island.
Bonus: they deliver!

I love Bridge Liquors.
Their staff is always happy to chat with you about their favorite picks and I’ve never had trouble finding what I’m looking for when some of the other shops on the island seem to run out of beers that should be in stock (Sammy and Bud Light Lime). Their microbrew selection is the most varied on the island, so if we’re looking for something new, we have plenty of interesting options.
Side note, our house is a boozin’ house and the liquor store that’s in walking distance sometimes gives us the «Really? Again?» look when we stop by. The ladies and gents at Bridge are always happy to see us!

As a local, I try to avoid certain other shops on the island which are just a total rip off.
Bridge is someplace that I can go and know that I’m not going to get ripped off, while being able to find a cool wine or beer. They’ll even ship Thomas Tew Rum out to you!
They have a great selection of cheaper wines like Barefoot and Twisted in 1.5L sizes which is great if you are having a party and need to have some mass appealing wines on hand.
While you are there grab a bottle of bubbles, run next door to Long Wharf Seafood and grab a dozen oysters… WIN WIN!
