This place is 5 stars all the way! The reason I gave this place 5 stars was because of our server Spencer! She was amazing! So upbeat, smiley, & friendly. She made our dinning experience a memorable one. Thank you so much Spencer! Our food was so yummy!!! It’s was delicious & had so much flavor. My boyfriend had the seafood chowder(loved it so much that he wants to order one to take home the day we leave Newport) & the asparagus/spinach salad(it was HUGE) I had the crab cakes which were so yummy! Also there was live music this evening which adds to the ambience. We will be back anytime we come to Newport!

I just ate here and it was excellent. I travel all over the US and sometimes Europe and this restaurant holds its own. Not overpriced or pretentious, staff was very friendly. I read the reviews before coming, and perhaps some of the negative ones had an effort, so I was aware of where the bumps might be but really a fine meal reasonably priced. Btw, staying at a great room that is a fraction of the price at peak season and apparently there is a roof deck bar that is a local secret but a tad chilly now.

this place is really good. I came for lunch with my girlfriend during restaurant week, thinking that would be a good way to try out a new place. The food was very good and the service was great. I don’t know our server’s name but she was really friendly and attentive. It’s obviously a beautiful hotel, so the atmosphere was perfect for a date. I also liked how it wasn’t uptight or snobby at all, which I almost expected it to be just because of the notable reputation of the Viking. We are in our 20s and just walked in the front door, but nobody treated us like we were out of place. The best part was a big group of elderly women having a tea party at a nearby table. It was great to see how respectful and attentive the servers were to them– it was obvious the women were having a blast, made my girlfriend and I smile. We plan to go back soon!

One Bellevue at The Hotel Viking has never disappointed us. We have dined there many times and had breakfast, lunch and dinner. Recently on Nov. 5, 2015 we stopped in for a late lunch. We are frequent Newport visitors and have dined in many restaurants. this by far is the best… We started out with a bowl of New England Clam Chowder… so creamy and abundant. I had the lobster roll on a brioche roll, with harvest greens. Divine… lots of lobster and I just love brioche rolls. The best lobster roll I have ever had, anywhere… My husband had The Viking Club. again just the best… Roasted turkey breast, crispy bacon, harvest greens with cranberry sage mayo(so good). Club was served in triangles on a long skewer. very nice presentation. we both chose fries. again very unique. thin wide long strips of potatoes that curled… the best. also served with house made pickles. We finished up with cheese cake with fresh berries and cream. We will be returning very soon. And our server Spencer was so nice. very efficient without being intrusive, and very knowledgeable about all menu items.

Awesome restaurant week. Large portions. Loved the calamari and duck. Waitress was very friendly and came back with recommended wines for the entrees. Very nice way to spend our 30th wedding annuversaey

Hubby and I thought we’d start the day off with a breakfast at One Bellevue — they make very nice Greek omelets — with table outside to enjoy one of the last great days of summer. Got to the restaurant and if the hostess were any slower in seating people, we would have had to check for a pulse. Actually, we later discovered that if she wasn’t bussing tables as well, maybe she could have done a proper job dealing with the front. We asked for a table outside. No can do. Seems the restaurant didn’t have enough staff available to open the outside, which is only open during warm months anyway. Food was okay but it was a huge disappointment. There were two Romanian guys working to staff an entire dining room, which wasn’t any fairer to them. A hotel that can’t staff up for holiday weekends? One has to wonder.

Had lunch here. Beautiful location and excellent service however the food left a lot to be desired. I had the crab cakes and French onion soup. The crab cakes were HEAVILY breaded. Maybe 3 pieces of lump crab? Very disappointed as this is a seafood haven. The French onion soup was ok. The servers and host were very friendly and made the experience enjoyable.

On vacation recently my husband, sister, brother in law and I went into this restaurant for desserts and after dinner drinks. It was late about 9:45. We took seats at a table and were ignored by the staff. If it was closed fine the staff could have let us know. We left. I sent an email which went unanswered. It may have a great history but no future.

After an awkward start of having to get the hotel attendant to find a host/ess to seat us, we had an enjoyable and relaxing lunch here at One Bellevue. My husband and I had the Spring Carrot Soup as an appetizer. The presentation was simple and beautiful — the orange soup with green parsley oil drizzled over the top and a dollop of lemon crème fraîche in the middle made for a lovely and colorful start to our meal. The soup was delicious. It was rich and light and the lemon crème fraîche was a tasty treat in each bite. When the soup was gone, my husband asked if we should order more! For our lunch entrée we shared the Monterey Chicken Sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich was simple, fresh, and nicely flavored. The salad was a refreshing mix of greens, chopped asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, and sunflower seeds. But the star of the show was the dressing. I have no idea what kind it was but I licked my bowl clean! The service was appropriately sparse but attentive throughout the mean. The menu was very limited, but what the place lacks in variety it makes up for in flavor! Everything was on point and delicious.

Dirty plates, dirty water glasses, dirty teacups, stray hair on linens, bug in milk, mediocre food at best, and most importantly unapologetic staff. This is the worst high tea experience ever.

To me, this was the best place we ate at in Newport. The food is excellent, the service is attentive and friendly, and the ambiance is rustic and romantic. We came here in the middle of a giant snow snow storm since we were staying in the hotel, so it was pretty dead since the streets were all shut down, but the quality of the service and the food did not suffer. Grand chowder — this is exactly what you want when you come to Newport. Rich and creamy with huge chunks of lobster, scallops, and shrimp. It’s a steal at $ 12 considering how much seafood they packed in here. Crab cakes — no filler here, these babies are all chunky crab. The apple slaw it comes with pairs well and is light and refreshing. Short ribs — one giant short rib over several heaping spoonfuls do sweet potato mashed potatoes and a fried Swiss chard patty. The flavors of everything here are very rich and super heavy. It’s excellent, but was too heavy for me to finish. Butter poached lobster — never really though I could call anything poached in butter light, but this dish was both generous in portion, yet light. You get a full lobster, and we got a big boy, and it was perfectly cooked. The mushrooms and spaghetti squash and the perfect accompaniments in terms of flavor, texture, and lightness. Really a perfect dish. I really don’t get the poor reviews on this place. We loved everything about it. Should we find ourselves back in Newport, we’ll swing by here for dinner again.

I had my tea party themed bridal shower here and it was absolutely perfect! When I was looking online for venues the Hotel Viking’s One Bellevue tea room really stood out. The space was bright, beautiful, not Victorian, and served Afternoon Tea! Sign me up! The bridal party was in charge of picking the location and, lucky me, they chose this spot. The staff was awesome. Need a trash bag? One showed up in two minutes. Dietary restriction? Substitution came without a problem. Everyone was raving about the blueberry scones still being warm and they were so so delicious. The only thing I would have changed is no matter how many people were at the table the same amount of food came on the tea tray. So the table with two people got the same amount of food as the table with six. Since they paid per person I think the table with six should have got more tea sandwiches and pastries. Those tables demolished the tray where as the smaller tables had plenty leftover. Everyone seemed full and happy though! If you are looking for a bridal shower location, I highly recommend this spot. I had about 20 people and it could easily fit up to 30 if you are having a bigger event.

The service was incredibly slow and the bread was quite stale. However the rest of the meal was alright. Probably wouldn’t visit here again.

Good service, underwhelming food. Décor: very nice and fitting for a historic hotel. The dishes were clean and surrounding area was quiet.(Our group(4 people) was the only one there for lunch.) Service: Outstanding. While the server didn’t know the difference between a saucer and an appetizer plate, she was attentive, quick and very polite. Food: Horrible. The burger was cooked, as asked(medium), but the mushroom/onion topping was cold and congealed. The side salad was wilted and drenched with a ranch-like dressing, even though I had asked for balsamic vinaigrette. I felt slightly sick after lunch. We mistakenly stayed even though we wanted a brunch menu(only lunch and dinner menu available). Manager: the manager was looking at wine selection in the next room and didn’t bother to come check on us, even though we were the only guests in the restaurant. Overall, very disappointed with what should have been a nice dining experience.

Just went here tonight! On a little New England getaway, and this was our tastiest meal so far and by far! The scallops are incredible! The manager is a pleasure as well. He really knows how to treat customers and just seems very genuine. But, there’s sometimes a but, our service sucked. Our waiter was missing for long periods of time. Our drinks took forever. Our long island iced tea came out as a regular iced tea. The shrimp cocktail must have been fresh caught because we could have fished the shrimp and brought it out faster. We were about to leave when the manager saved the day! He was so nice to work with! I’m glad we stayed because it was incredibly yummy :) Hopefully the server was just new and will learn in time. Def worth a stop while in Newport!

One Bellevue, I found to be a hidden little gem in Newport. It’s slightly off the beaten path of the touristy downtown newport area… But that’s only about 5 blocks of Thames. This means never a wait and you will be seated promptly. Breakfast menu is brief, but it hits all the regular breakfast faire highlights with a boutique flair. The service was exceptionally good. Morning Mimosas were a bit pricey… But hey, it’s a 5 star hotel(that has earned all of said stars) and it’s in Newport.

The hotel viking in Newport continues to disappoint. The service is fair at best, the food is mediocre and the rooms are shoddy. We were on the rooftop for the Fourth of July. We had a reservation, yet they had no table for us. They ended up seating us at a counter, the food was cold and the waitstaff were overwhelmed. Would not return. Totally overpriced.

Decided to go based on location to our inn. Ordered mutiple apps but only one stood out which was the tacos, but I would’ve preffered a corn taco instead of flour. The grilled octopus was a little too tough and the potatoes on the side with the mustard sauce just didn’t go with it. The salad was decent and the asparagus«fries» were disaapointing and overly battered. Service was friendly and quick to start with but ended with waiting excessively long for bill. Attempted to check out the upstairs bar and found a poorly put together patio with limited selections and no view from the roof.

I would love to give this place a zero star if I could. Coming from NYC with my great friends to have a nice restaurant experience on our lovely vacation trip, our night was completely destroyed by their unprofessional, disorganized, terrible service. So four of us came to the restaurant with reservation, took about 20 min for waitress to take our drink order, another 20 min to take our order. We were cool about it since the waitress said«appreciate your patience» meaning she was aware that it was a long wait. We ordered their restaurant week course menu, then it took ANHOUR to get our first appetizer. Plus she brought my food wrong insisting«no! you ordered this!» when I said«oh I ordered something else.» My friends and husband also went«no, she did not order that» so she went back to get my dish, although now I feel I really should have said I did not remember what I ordered because it took goddamn long. We complained to the maitre’d or perhaps the manager of the restaurant, and he said he’d give us another bottle of wine to make up for it. Then when our waitress came back to give us a bottle of wine, she was visibly upset. After our appetizer, the server came to clean the table and ask if we are ready for the dessert. We had to laugh since we saw other customers who came later than us were getting their dessert after several course meals and we haven’t even had our entrée. Then this waitress came back with our entrée, and she did it again. We had vegetarian friends so one of them ordered the dish from the appetizer section to be his entrée. She brought him a dish with appetizer portion. She gave me cod when I ordered salmon and said«it’s salmon!» and obviously it wasn’t. I have to say-the food was really good. But the service was beyond intolerable that made our whole dinning experience uncomfortable and enenjoyable. We had to leave after spending two and a half hours of miserable humiliating experience. We canceled our dessert which we were not even sure if we could get by next morning at that point. We really don’t know what that was all about. We were really patient and be totally nice about it until we finally told our waitress we want to just get check and leave canceling our dessert. We apparently did not look like their regular customers or the locals, we might look a bit young for their restaurant, but it is still unacceptable to be treated like that. Not sure if that was the waitress or the kitchen or really us. But guess what? Screw them. Eff this place. We’ll never come back.
