Over the last several months, I have noticed the overall performance of this store decline. Customer service is poor, and actually at times the staff are downright rude. I laughed at an earlier review that mentioned produce getting bruised… I had that same checker… The stock is often low, prices are higher than the competition and sometimes ridiculously high. And most recently, a friend of mine started working there, received little to no training, was thrown to the wolves so to speak and then reprimanded for not doing his job correctly. When payday came, he was not given a paycheck and was told that«he didn’t have his employee number yet» so his manager gave him a handwritten check and«guessed» on his deductions! Fast forward to the next payday… he still doesn’t get a check! Obviously he has found a different and better job, but is still waiting to get paid! All of this not surprisingly coincides with a young and inexperienced store manager. This place is awful. Avoid if at all possible. Highly recommend Freddie’s.

I stopped by this Safeway to get a couple items I couldn’t find down the street. When I pulled in, I noticed it was empty. «That’s odd» I thought. I went in for only a few items. What a huge disappointment. I wanted a simple loaf of French bread. They didn’t have any. The bakery section was a joke. I went to get my other item… chocolate chips. They were $ 1.00 a bag more than anywhere else. That will be the first and last time I go into this Safeway. I went to Walmart down the road and got everything I needed… CHEAPER!

Just cruising up Hwy 101, Newport, Oregon. Need a loaf of bread. Hesitate: should I go to little local market just north or Safeway. Snap decision. Safeway will be WAY cheaper. Buy bread. Seems pricey at $ 3.69, ask cashier if price is correct, she calls bakery, they confirm price is correct. I leave a little puzzled. Stop by Agate Beach Market to check their price. I’m retired and have time. ABM price, same exact loaf of Franz Bread is $ 2.25. I am pissed. I buy from Safeway Bozeman All The Time. Done with Safeway. What a rip.

The produce is fresh and there is a great variety of products. Easy plentiful parking makes shopping there a joy.

Poor service, worst checkers ever! I’m absolutely appalled how they treated bruise and bagged my food. Not only did I have to sit there and re-bag everything I asked her to add something to the bag I was doing and she adamantly put it in another bag and said«already done, just deal» with the snuggest attitude. No one is available to help find anything they have a complete dis-regard for any integrity or respect. The WORST customer service, poorest selection and I would never waist your time. GOTOFREDMEYER! I’m starting to get the impression that Safeway, on the whole, has just«gone to seed,» as they say. They have just stopped trying. While the Newport Safeway isn’t nearly as neglected and filthy as the one in Lincoln City(never, never, never — really — just keep driving) it still shows all the tell-tale signs of not quite enough stockers; not quite enough people cleaning; and nobody really freshening or taking care of the produce and meat market areas — at least not on the weekends. We stopped by late in the afternoon as an almost afterthought to a day of errands, needing only 2 very basic staples — a couple of cups of my favorite strawberry yogurt, and some high fiber bread for sandwiches. –The kind of things every market should have in plentiful supply. There were places on the shelf marked for both, but both were out of stock. Rather than take 2nd or 3rd choice — we left with nothing. I could go on and list all the bits that make me sure we won’t be going back — but what’s the point? I should have stuck to the markets I already know are clean, well stocked, and courteous in town.(Those would be Oceana, the natural foods store; JC Thriftway — which has the most consistently good produce and meat; and Fred Meyer.) Sorry to say Safeway is now permanently off my list.

There aren’t a ton of grocery store options in Newport. The Safeway has a decent selection is one of the better grocery stores in the area.
