The Apothecary Newport

Really amazing products and super cute atmosphere. Waxing was quick and relatively painless. Great staff and super knowledeable about products. Its hard moving around a lot and finding all new places to go for beauty needs but this place is definately my spot for Newport.

Such a cute store! I tried this place for a brazilian and it was quick and painless! Everyone is very friendly and it is fairly easy to get an appointment!

This is really a lovely Newport boutique. It’s kinda quirky though — not necessarily in a bad way — and not enough to stop me from coming back, but enough to require this tale to be told.
My first Apothecary facial was back in 2013. The gal who worked with me was obviously hung over, not happy about being there that morning, and gave me an absolutely amazing pore popping, skin changing facial. Walked out of there feeling like a million bucks. and that I’d just spent an hour with my worst frenemy.
I returned for another facial last month and met with a different gal; very sweet, but provided the most unenthusiastic spa service I’ve ever received. Again — an absolutely fabulous facial, but left me lying on the table for 5 — 10 minutes at a time in between treatments. Get up off the chair and throw in some massage for crying out loud. don’t just let me lay there!
Two fabulous facials, two totally bizarre experiences — I will be back! =) How can I not?!

I went here to get a brazilian wax and Megan did a phenomenal job. She was very good at cutting the awkwardness of being exposed and asked me questions about my self to break the ice. Also, the price is not bad considering what people charge normally.
What ended up starting out as just an appointment to get a wax turned out to be way more than that. I had just moved here and was having a tough time with my living situation and finding a job, as I was here for grad school. Megan was so sweet and offered to keep an ear out if she heard of anyone hiring. That to me, was above and beyond. Just a wonderful place to go and the people there are as nice as they come. I would recommend anyone go there for anything!

A fellow shipmate and I came here during our liberty call to get our eyebrows waxed (OCS really does a number on a girl). The place was absolutely beautiful, but the service was horrible. She approached us and asked if we needed any help. When we asked her if we could schedule an appointment she rolled her eyes and let out a huge sigh like we were bothering her. She then went on to explain how she was extremely busy. I just don’t understand why she carried on the way that she did. She did try and schedule an appointment for us later that day but she told us, «You are still going to have to wait because I have a lot of things to do.» They might be great at what they do, but they need to teach their employees how to treat customers.

I was on business for six weeks in Newport and in dire need to find a place for a wax. I came here on Unilocal to find a place and I was so happy I did. I went to their website and the prices were much more than reasonable for a brazilian and I gave them a call. The shop was closed for a week while they moved locations but they took my appointment for the following Saturday.
I was greeted right away when I got there and walked into their beautiful botique style spa. They had only been setting up for a week and it was already beautiful! The wax room is quaint and comfortable and Ally was amazing! This is the place to go to become a loyal customer or if you are just passing through and need a service one time. Can’t recommend enough.

I have been using Bare Minerals makeup for about 2 years now, but I have never been completely happy with the results. I ran out of my foundation this week and decided instead of going to Sephora where I usually buy it, to try The Apothecary, since it is closer to me. I am so glad I did. The woman matched my color perfectly! I am so happy and finally feel like Bare Minerals is working for my skin. Not only was the staff very welcoming and helpful, but the inside was adorable. When I was in there there was someone waiting for a service and someone else leaving after having one done. I think I will be back sometime soon for a facial or a waxing service. I will definitely be returing to The Apothecary for all my makeup needs. Goodbye Sephora and years of wearing the wrong color makeup!

I just moved up to Newport a couple of weeks ago and I’m going to be getting married in a couple more, which is why I decided that it was high time to get my first ever facial. I did a lot of research into cost versus what you get and in Newport facials can run a bit high apparently.
I wasn’t exactly sure what kind of facial to get so I figured I’d just go with whatever the aesthetician recommended for me (because obviously she’d know better than I would). I was impressed that she recommended not the most expensive one on the list (the microdermabrasion) which I thought would be something they’d for sure try to talk me into. I’m 25 though so it’s not like I have a ton of skin damage.
We went back into the little room and I thought it was nice. There was calming music playing, candles, pretty fabric on the walls, and it was dimly lit. Very spa-​like.
I decided before we started to get a brow/​lip wax as well and I really like that took the whole 60 minutes to do the facial. She did the waxing around the 50 min mark after extractions, etc, but before the final calming face mask. And since the waxing was in there, we finished at about an hour and ten minutes. Very impressed. Also, the waxing was not very painful at all.
The only negative thing was that the next day, my upper lip has broken out in little zits, but my Mom assures me that that is usually the result of the facial pulling all the impurities out and that they should clear up in a few days. Hopefully this’ll mean all the «impurities» are going to be out for the wedding (fingers crossed!).
All in all, I really liked the Apothecary. I asked questions about my makeup and she gave me a bunch of good advice. I said I wasn’t happy with how my Bare Minerals was matching my face (I’d purchased a starter set a while ago from another business) and she suggested that I come in and get matched for another color when I run out of foundation. I didn’t feel like she was trying to force a bunch of product on me or sell me a bunch of stuff.
I’m going back later this week for my first ever spray tan too (I need to get rid of my farmers tan before the big day), so hopefully they’ll do impressive work on this aspect too. Wish me luck!

I went there for a brazilian wax. It was a cute place with lots of makeup and facial products. The woman who waxed me did a great job, very thorough. I will go back for a brow wax next time. It has only street parking, which when off-​season was fine– I am not sure how it will get in the summer

I have been getting Brazilians regularly for 3 years, have had multiple types of experiences in doing so, and have, for the past 2 years, been going to the most amazing esthetician on the planet with more than 12 years of experience in this service. I take my skin and hair removal very seriously, and was happy to find such a recommended place as the Apothecary upon temporarily moving to Newport.
The Apothecary is an absolutely adorable little storefront. I walked in and was greeted warmly by my esthetician, who was extremely friendly and professional the entire experience. She seemed a tad bit nervous, which I ignored seeing as how it was my first visit to her.
She was very warm, kind, sanitary, methodical, and professional throughout the waxing. While I have a very high tolerance for pain, this experience was one of the least painful Brazilians, initially, that I have had.
However, there are 3 major reasons that I am only giving this place 2 stars. First, she accidentally waxed me bald (didn’t leave a strip). I thought her nervousness may have had something to do with it, and that alone was really no big deal, but it adds to the next 2 factors. Second reason is that I bruised. She was aware of it right off the bat, and apologized. Again, I wasn’t really worried about it because I have very sensitive skin, and it was my first wax with her. The big deal here is the third factor: When I got home, I realized that in the underneath area, there was an entire chunk of my skin taken off. 24 hours of baby wipes rather than toilet paper and Neosporin and it healed just fine, but in all my years of doing this, that has never happened…
Overall, I feel bad because I really liked the place, and maybe these types of things are common for other people who get this done. I remember my first Brazilian was with a very experienced este in San Diego and I was burned for 3 days. I know it’s not a super common service and I commend and appreciate the wonderful estheticians willing to offer the service. I have been very lucky to have a regular esthetician back at home who is just plain talented in this area of skin care.

AMAZING. I am so glad that John, the owner, contacted me, and that I gave this place a second chance. Sara was my waxer, and I am positive that I will continue to be slavishly loyal to her in the future. She only works on Mondays, folks, so make sure you make an appointment. Believe me, you will be kissing the ground she walks on. She, and John, for that matter, was polite, personable, extremely fun, a good conversationalist who took my mind off the awkwardness of having my hooha out there in front of a complete stranger. In addition, the entire matter was fantastically quick, absolutely meticulous, and relatively painless. She was also really cool and helpful regarding my piercing, something that some waxers have been openly judgemental of or kind of unsure of how to handle it.
Yes, I said it. A nearly painless but perfect brazilian. You’re about to make that appointment, aren’t you? Although this particular waxing was gratis, the normal price for an «extreme bikini» is more than reasonable. They also have a great selection of makeup (bareminerals– my fave foundation, and I’ll go there when I run out of my current stash) and skin care products.
