If youre a bored Caucasian Newton housewife who wants to get away from the kids and nanny for the afternoon, this is the place for you! You can join all the other bored housewives that linger there around noon time for poorly made tuna melt sandwich that costs $ 8(yeah, EIGHTDOLLAR!!). If you go there for lunch you can actually observe the bored, rich, white housewives in their natural habitat complaining about how the«Press 2 for Spanish» on customer service lines wastes their time. And«Why cant they just learn English?» The RUDE guy behind the counter slung attitude at me after he got my order wrong. At least sell good food if youre going to be a jerk. He probably got it wrong because he wasnt listening to me at all but was instead yelling at the teenagers behind the counter. The tuna melt was not worth $ 8. Mediocre food, pretentious /odd atmosphere, and WORST service. Just go to Whole Foods.

I wanted to write a review of this place to give it a fair shout-out. I noticed much of the older reviews were negative and I agreed with them a year ago. HOWEVER, I think the service is much-improved and the prices seem more reasonable. I’ve had several of the muffins — delicious, moist, bran muffin, a pear muffin that I still dream about. The bran muffin is a «regular» but there’s always a muffin-of-the-day. And I tried an apple scone last week which was sinful and buttery but very tasty. The sandwiches taste amazingly good — the chicken salad is fantastic(but does NOT seem healthy as it has lots of mayonaise… yum!). The spinach pie actually does seem healthy — very minimal feta cheese and loads of pressed spinach with very thing layers of phyllo dough. The egg-white fritatta is also a very delicious healthy option. Big portion and I don’t feel weighed down after eating it — not greasy at all. I would recommend they get a microwave. I wanted my muffin heated and the only thing they appear to have is an oven which just cooked the muffin too much making it crusty and not nearly hot enough. The atmosphere is welcoming, warm, clean, and friendly. To be honest, the slices of pie I’ve had have not been the best(good filling but something about the crust — not bad, just not a lot of flavor…) but everything else I’ve had is addictively good.

Just bought a «Harvest» pie for $ 19. This is a mixture of apple, pear and cranberry with a crumble top. The pears were not completely cooked, and were like rocks in an otherwise reasonable pie. Overall it was very disappointing pie. Edit: we contacted them by email and they are sending a gift certificate. Upgraded from 2 to 3 stars.

Had the blueberry and peach pie slice for breakfast with an iced coffee, and both were excellent. The last time I was here I ate inside and had a slice of quiche, which was also very tasty. They have a few tables inside, and two outside in warm weather. Great little spot in Newton Center!

I went here again 2 years later and I repeat, If you’re not going to have a decent chocolate cream pie don’t call yourself a pie shop. They still don’t manage to have half of the pies on their list.

Pie. It’s a neat concept to have a café/restaurant that caters to all of us pie lovers. Sadly, their core concept is wasted on sandwich, lunch and dinner items that dilute the store’s caché. I stopped by on a quest for sweets and hot chocolate after a refreshing couple of hours cross country skiing. In all honesty, I was on my way to Peet’s, but stopped in anyways, inquisitive. The pies looked sub par and for $ 23 there is NO way I’d buy a pie there before checking out the Whole Foods 0.5 miles down the road. That said they had a great«blue plate special» where I split a small citrus salad and a chicken quesadilla with my gf. The roasted red pepper, cheese, chicken and caramelized onions melt in your mouth. The Ghiardelli hot chocolate is sinfully delicious. Complement it with a 3 chocolate chip cookie and you are in business. The staff is friendly, but they did seem quite stressed with the 3PM Saturday crowd. They seem over worked and frazzled. We ordered our food and waited a good 15 minutes before the wait staff had whittled down the line to bring over our hot chocolate and then he forgot multiple pieces of the order and had to go back and get them. When you have a counter staff that doubles for the wait staff that can be a recipe for disaster. The décor is good and I like that they had good seating options. The clientele is a whole other story. The conversations overheard here are just about right for Richie Rich Newton town. It is sad that this place is a let down for it’s namesake, but if you want a quick mid afternoon snack it’s just about right.

I have a confession to make. I busted into my pecan pie from Pie in the Sky a little early. Granted, I didn’t eat the whole thing myself. I just had a little tiny piece just so I’d know, you know, if it was good. I don’t even really like pecan pie; I bought this just so I’d have pecan pie to offer up to my guests. But it looked so good, what with its nutty texture and rustic crust. And good it was. It wasn’t overly sweet, which is my main problem with most pecan pies, and it had really good flavor. So I’m glad that I ended up with a pecan pie from Pie Bakery as my Pie in the Sky pie, because it was a splendid surprise. And yes, I saved the rest for my guests.

This is a review of Pie’s sandwiches. I have not sampled the pie here, so I can’t speak to the dessert options, but I can comment on the lunch options here. Pie would be a solid 3 stars were it not for the $ 8, pretty tiny sandwiches. Pie’s sign boasts that it was voted best lunch spot in Newton by Urban Spoon, and like Buddy the Elf, I’m always impressed by the World’s Best. So I had high expectations for Pie. They were not met. I had a tomato, mozzarella, and basil pressed sandwich. It came on a super-hearty multigrain bread. This is a bread that I normally enjoy, but not with this kind of sandwich. It’s not the kind of bread that grills well, and it’s not the kind of bread that goes well with mozzarella and basil. The place itself is cute, but I won’t be going back. There are plenty of other lunch spots with atmosphere in Newton Corner that serve far more appetizing food.

To those who called it average and lacking you must not get out much or cook very often to know what a good homemade crust tastes like. I have never had a bad soup, sandwich, savory pie or sweet pie there. Soups are always fresh and accompanied by a piece of whole grain foccacia or corn bread which are both excellent. Sandwiches served on the same bread are fantastic like the Turkey Reuben. The Hand pies are divine and the personal Shepard’s pie topped with sweet potato can’t be beat on a cold winter’s day. I would stop by after work and pick something to warm in the oven for dinner. Then there are the Pies. Yes selection can be limited, but that’s because you know they use FRESH, LOCAL, INSEASON ingredients. I would rather have that then 25 different pies of mediocre quality. My favs include the Coconut Crème, Pecan Pie Ala Mode and their Apple Pie once again with Ice Cream. Also of note when I inquired as to where there delicious Vanilla Ice Cream came from they told me that it was from Christina’s in Cambridge. For those in the know thats some of the best homemade ice cream around. The atmosphere is nice and clean they play Sinatra so you have to love it. Very casual and a nice place to unwind after a long day at work in one of there chairs.

Alright, I guess I’m going to be the cool one and say«SANDWICHES!!! SANDWICHES!!! SOUPS!!! PANINIS!!!» The meals from here are absolutely fantastic. Expensive, yes, but hey… it’s Newton. It’s kind of a given. I’ve head-over-heels for the Roast Beef with Creamy Horseradish Brie and Tomato Relish sandwich. I’d have it every day if it weren’t for the $ 7.95 price tag. There are several other fantastic creations as well, something for every taste. Price aside, they do have $ 4.95 soup and salad specials on a daily basis, so I can’t really complain that much. I’m just cheap. A cheap Unilocaler is a happy Unilocaler. Oh yes, and their pie is stellar, too. I highly recommend picking somethng up from here for your co-worker’s birthday as an alternative to the yellow sheet cake from Shaw’s.

I feel like this place really wants to be trendy and good, but fails on both counts. The pies aren’t good, they all taste reheated and a little less appetizing than something you’d get at Whole Foods. The ambiance is more cafeteria than pie shop, and the whole vibe is forced trendiness. Go to Whole Foods and spend 20 bucks on a delicious and large pie as opposed to 3.95 for a small-ish piece of pie that doesn’t taste as good.

Really good pies and baked goods. Had a great scone and ginger cookie. Cute place with some seating and had a lot of nice staff there when I was in. I’ve been only a couple times but will probably be back since my husbands favorite food is PIE! Little pricey but good. I think it’ll be more of a treat to go here then a regular thing.

Pie … PIE … PIIIEEEEEE!!! — and More *tsk* Disregard the complainers. The pies are Very Well Done — strawberry rhubarb’s SPOT on; apple, chocolate cream, banana cream, and cherry are GOOOD; coconut and brownie pie were ok; Boston cream is more cakey but tasty. Crusts are uniformly home-made goodness. Pastries are varied and top notch. They’re good for fresh lunch salads and sandwiches. Walk in and the baking smell hits you like a warm mouthful of happy stick. Sure, there’s some shaking out going down — e.g. their take-out menu inexplicably omits which pies they make. But people, people… for Jimmy’s sake, it’s a PIEBAKERY that makes good PIES! What do you want? Cordon bleu? A wine list? Boo hoo there was a line — yah? Good things come to those who wait and bring forks.

I stopped in to pick up a pie for a dinner party that I was going to(and did NOT feel like making a dessert I committed to bringing). I asked for assistance, as I had never been in there before, about what pies were available, etc. The girl behind the counter was happy to help, although it was awkward trying to look at all the pies in the case she was describing because the line to the register was stacked against it. I choose a Boston Crème Pie as well as a slice of the Cookies & Cream Pie for my husband. The Boston Crème Pie was definitely enjoyed at the dinner party(and it comes in such a pretty box too). I felt like it was better than average, but not out-of-this-world. We still had some left a week later and when I popped it into the microwave it actually still tasted surprisingly good. The Cookies & Cream slice did not make it that long though — we were practically fighting over the last bite. I would definitely put in an order for an entire Cookies & Cream pie in the future!

any place that belongs to the America Pie Council is okay with me!!! Can I join??? Also, it is owned by 2 women! Yay, Women! My experience was great! I got the chicken, wild rice and apple«handpie,» a cornmeal and currant cookie(has a specific, italian name which i forget…) and… a slice of ginger pear pie! yum. and the nice guy behind the counter brought it out to me. I want to go back soon b/c they have quite a varied menu with lots of categories…

Popped in for lunch after a mani at Mini Luxe next door. Not many places to sit, and the counter staff aren’t very friendly(they all seem terrified of an older woman who works there.) But they do deliver your food to you at the table when it is ready. The mozzarella pannini I had was so good! I think it was somewhere around $ 7-$ 8. Worth it. Gotta be honest — by the name I did sort of expect the whole place to be a wonderland of big huge pies like the illustrations in my Strawberry Shortcake books back in the day, but this is reality and no, it wasn’t like that. The pies were tiny and not super appealing and there were only about 3 kinds in the case. So I was a tad disappointed. I ended up getting a raspberry bar cookie, which was pretty good, if you’re not opposed to consuming an entire stick of butter in every bite. Which I’m not.

So I thought I should stop eating the same things day in and day out, so decided to give the Turkey, Cheddar, & Broccoli handpie a try. I love the chicken, cheddar, & broccoli croissant pockets, and the handpie looked very similar in comparison… Looks are about where it all ends. In a croissant pocket, you actually taste the meat, the cheese, and the broccoli. In my Pie handpie… I pretty much tasted pepper with the occasional creaminess of the cheddar, and on the occasional bite, I might have tasted a little bit of the turkey. Awesome that they use real turkey(my favorite!) but I was slightly disappointed with the outcome. If they let up on the pepper a little bit so you can actually taste the filling, they’ve have a winning product.

I stumbled upon this place after driving by it a few times. It’s very conveniently located in Newton Center, where parking is ample. It is also accessible by the T since it’s only about 100 yards away from the green line… The décor is very nice but when I was there at 5pm, it was both dark outside and in the shop. Very very dark. I didn’t like that too much but my girlfriend and I proceeded to order. She got a slice of pecan pie while mine was lemon meringue pie. She also got a coffee while I settled for a seasonal hot apple cider. The service was extremely slow and the bill pretty expensive for what it was, but then again, it’s freakin’ Newton so what do you expect. The slices of pie were very good, really and so was the apple cider. They also seem to have more items on their menu although I really doubt that I’d ever go for anything else but a pie. Overall a very high quality pie bakery which features premium prices.

When Johnny’s Luncheonette is jam packed full and you need a bite to eat, where do you go? Across the street to Pie, of course! Where savory pies, sweet pies, muffins, scones, sandwiches, salads, and soups are offered. ATMOSPHERE Clean, open space, with a little glass-enclosed bakery-style shelf to display the freshly made products. The kitchen is visible to all with bar stools set up for a great view of the production of tasty treats. A full menu of offerings hangs above the registers and a couple tables and chairs are available for limited outdoor seating. The bathroom is also a notable feature. Clean and modern, funky wide plateau sink and square-ish toilet? Very unique, I must say… FOOD I really was blown away by the food at Pie. I ordered the egg pie, which was served hot. It was by far the fluffiest lightest egg pie I have ever eaten, which was perfect since I wasn’t ultra hungry. It would be a perfect afternoon snack as well. Other ingredients included a mushroom top, cheese, and onion. And since Pie features sweet pies, I couldn’t resist ordering a couple slices of Strawberry Rhubarb to go. When I got home, I dove right it, and MAN, you might want to admit to yourself that it’s better than your mom’s(or grandfather’s) ever was! It was perfectly sweet with that hint of tangy sour from the rhubarb. Probably terrible for your health, but who cares! God, it was good. The crust was okay, but it lacked a nice crispy browned edge that crusts need. Overall, it worked well with the whole pie. I love Strawberry Rhubarb Pie and I swear this one was the best I’d had since my grampy’s. It’s too bad it’s all the way out in Newton, but it’s still worth the trip back.

I was not impressed with this place. I came here yesterday expecting a great selection of pies for lunch, but was sorely disappointed. Pie kinda looks like a Starbucks to me; not enough seating and too many people waiting in line. My friends heard of the chicken pot pie and other great sounding pies. However, we get there around 1 pm and there is hardly any selection. No chicken pot pies, but there was some sort of chicken pastie. I wasn’t impressed with anything on the menu – the special pie of the day was the shephard’s pie. They had the spanakopita, some roasted vegetable pie, a turkey/cheddar pie and I think a ham one. I got the spanakopita. The server said it had to be heated up, but I think they forgot about us as we waited 15 mins for the span to come and they had forgotten about it. It was very buttery, but like Jenny N said, it’s just bland after a while. My friends who wanted the chicken pot pie asked if more were being made and the owner said, if we feel like it. Come on, now! We skipped dessert but the pie of the day was coconut custard. I think there was a chocolate cream pie. But that was all I saw. Prices ranged from $ 4.50-$ 6.00 for a pie or slice. You can also order whole pies for pick up as well as salads and soups. I don’t know if I’d make another trip out there, but they need to iron out their kinks before really making a dent in the scene in Newton.
