Food would get 4 or 5 stars alone, but the woman who takes orders was not only unwelcoming to first time customers, but downright rude.

I love this place smothered pork burrito, taco dog, and cheese enchiladas are some of my favorite items. Not the most friendly staff but the food defiantly makes up for the this short coming. I have several friends that tell me that when they come to newton for what ever reason that a stop here is always in order.

$ 14 for three American style tacos and a drink is bad enough, add in rude service and Lupe’s gets one star. My coworker did not even finish his enchiladas.

I don’t care if this place has been here for many years. The food was Not impressive and it was very expensive. I will not go back.

Once you have Lupes, you will forever crave it! I used to go a couple times a month when I lived in and around Newton but since I’ve moved to Topeka I miss it terribly! The burrito smothered in pork chile and cheese is something that will make your mouth water months after having it. LOVE. THIS. PLACE.

Pork chile quesadilla is crave-worthy and price is worth it.

I’ve been a Lupe’s customer for some 32 years and since back in the day when the original owners were running the place. I’m a Unilocaler and an addict of Lupe’s flavorful pork chile. There, I’ve admitted my bias, but it is true like any restaurant some items are absolutely wonderful and others not so much(hence a few of the other reviews — you gotta know what to order). For example, I’m only able to make it to Newton once a month or so, and have to have a «smothered sancho-hot» when I go. The«hot» means that your sancho will come covered with shredded cheese and pork chile(red), a wonderfully moist and flavorful pork chile. I favor the smothered sancho over the smothered burrito, as the combination of simple spiced ground beef(primarily just black pepper) in the sancho combined with the crisp lettuce, cheese and pork chile is a killer combination. Pretty good flour tacos, but avoid carryout as they will fall to pieces when you get them home. Don’t get me wrong, the tacos are passable but deteriorate with travel and time. Enjoy them with hot sauce on the outside but enclosed patio. When family that have moved out of state return home for a visit they have been known to spend in excess of $ 50 alone for the chile quesadillas and to freeze and take home.

It’s like any other restaurant, you need to know what to order. I love their tacos and their chili pork! Gotta get my Lupes fix once a week! Try the chili quesadilla you’ll love it!

These people were really nice and I know this place has been here for a while, but I don’t see how. WAY overpriced and taco bell tastes way better. No joke. ordered enchiladas and all it was was a thin flat tortilla(nothing inside, ordered chicken) with thin layer of sauce and cheese… very flat and for $ 7 its not even a meal, got no rice and beans. my enchiladablooked like the layering for the top of a burrito. tacos had no flavor and mom only ate half of one out of two and gave up. once again, taco bell would have tasted better! not authentic Mexican whatsoever. not worth the price.
