I am a huge fan of Marty’s in Newton. Their liquor selections are great, the staff are knowledgeable of the beers and most especially their wines. And their prices are not off-the-charts, they’re «keepin’ it real.» If I were to tell you I visited a few times a week you might believe I’m a lush. Well, perhaps there’s just a very small bit of truth to that… but in reality, I’m there for their Deli section, which is immediately to your left when you enter the store. They have a friendly crew behind the counter making AMAZING(nearly amaze-balls) sandwiches, and you’ll be thrilled at the list of sandwiches they can make you. The prepared foods are delicious and perhaps their most unsung hero is their pizzas! Yes, they’ll take essentially any meat, any veggie, anything at all… and deliver you a pizza pie to your liking fresh & hot from their own in-house pizza oven. Marty’s takes care of me time and time again, and not just for the booze.

Bomb spot for hard-to-find cheese, chocolate, and liquor. Yes, many a craft beer purveyor has popped up across the U.S. within the past few years, but Marty’s caters to an even more refined palate than beer. They have a small, yet respectable selection of chocolate, as well as cheese. However, the real draw here is the wide variety of spirits available. I am a cognac girl myself(bourbon a second choice, and brandy a third), and their selection ranges from some bottom shelf label for about $ 13 for 750mL to a top tier cognac that is even older(and perhaps more expensive than) than an 80-something year old King Louis XIII that I’ve had. The selection of bourbon ranges from the obscure to the unknown, as well as their brandy selection. I can’t speak much to their scotch, wine, vodka, or gin selection, but they do have mezcal! That’s pretty hard to find outside of Mexico or the southwest, so that has to be worth something, right? In addition, they have a locked case of caviar… which strikes me as impressive, but I must admit that I’m not a caviar connoisseur, so I really wouldn’t know the difference. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and what they don’t know, they will admit and often refer you to another employee.

I love it in here. The owners of Marty’s have put a lot of LOVE into their little business and it shows. They have a great Gourmet food section/selection that inspires with Mediterranean specialities, nuts, dried fruits, cakes, teas, cheese, Belgian Chocolate, and a prepared food/deli section. The wine selection is fab. Whatever the occasion, there are lots of great finds in the $ 10 range, and all the way up. An employee is there to help you if you need it. I’m kind of surprised to read some of the other reviews around customer service. Big microbrew/craft beer selection. They also have a small spirits selection/section. Specials are everywhere, and they highlight products at the aisle ends. Fun. They even have lemons, collapsible coolers, and high-end gift cards near the registers. Very thoughtful.

Good selection of beer/wine but VERY disappointed with the customer service. I was searching for a specific wine from California and when I asked two different store employees if they carried it, one did not know, and the other looked in a database for a few moments while on the phone with another customer, and then brushed me off and told me that«that vineyard doesn’t exist.» Considering I have purchased it at many other liquor stores and I had the vineyard website up on my phone for reference, I was very shocked and disappointed at the hurried, inconsiderate and frankly uneducated response I received.

Flipping love Marty’s liquor, always a good time here. They also have some rare funky liquors I couldn’t find anywhere else.

I bought mustard at Marty’s Liquor yesterday only to find that the expiration date was in November 2013. I find it quite appalling that they are selling expired products!

Marty’s is more than just a liquor store, they stock a great assortment of fine foods and spices as well. The selection at Marty’s for alcohol is massive. Their wine section is divided by region and takes up about 50% of the stores space. The prices on the bottles of wine are about $ 1 – 4 up marked(based on my other local liquor store) but for the variety they have it is worth it! Not only is the wine selection great, but the craft beer is phenomenal! The variety of beers and flavors will keep you looking for an hour. I like to walk down and look at the beers and see what new ones they have in stock. One thing I absolutely love about Marty’s is the food section. You will never find a liquor store that also contains gourmet food as well. The selection is amazing and you can really drop some serious money here. I love love love that they sell Dom’s Steaktips here as well! If you have never had Dom’s you need to have the tips! This is the closest place they sell them and I always find myself coming in to buy some tips and wine! Parking at Marty’s is great, the parking lot is large. Just be careful trying to get out onto Washington street as you have to cut through four lanes to get over!

Destination Boozeland. Swoop in for something quick and walk out struggling under the weight of a paper bag of clinking bottles of allkinathings. The beer selection is awesome. I like that they highlight what’s new and interesting on the endcaps of the beer aisles. They rotate these seasonally and it’s all carefully selected. They also have the bargain bin at the back of one of the beer rows. Seek your treasure here and you may come home with a $ 2 Baltika or something of similar ilk. The wine selection is pretty good too. Liquor is well-stocked and well-organized, though venturing into the pricey scotch/whisky section kind of unnerves me as I’m afraid I’ll swing my arm into a $ 500 a pour item. I haven’t utilized the food section enough, mostly because I’m trying to cut down on the number of(admittedly worth it) $ 8 jars of mustard I buy. Beautiful selection of quality products though, and I hear the deli at the back of the food section is tops too. So get amongst it already.

This place is so much more than just a liquor store. It has been a few years since i’ve been to Marty’s…the deli and market side of the store has been renovated and is AWESOME. Just the selection of cherry garnishes alone is amazing… There are spices, cookies, crackers, chocolates, and a whole wall of freezers with frozen foods. I found pink peppercorns(for my gin and tonics), ghost pepper chocolates and Taza for gifts. If I still lived nearby, I would also partake in the Italian specialty market-like pasta and deli selections. The liquor side is also pretty varied… in the past, I’ve bought wines, beers & liquors from Marty’s. Plenty of parking, since the lot is adjoined with the crazy one for Whole Foods next door.

I am so sad i hadn’t been here before and have been going to other places around me. This place is fantastic. Such pleasant and nice staff, great selection of beers, wines, liquors, etc… wonderful wonderful! Loved the specialty food items too and they have some cigars and other items thrown in. We will definitely be returning. Large store, lots of parking, open store, clean…

My favorite liquor store in the area hands down. They have a phenomenal craft beer selection, with a lot of seasonal rotation. Tastings are typical, which is a great way to try new beer. They also have a great selection of specialty foods and make great sandwiches. I’m amazed at their customer service. They really listen and do everything they can to try and get the best product for what you want.

I try to stop by Marty’s whenever I am in the area. Very unique store to say the least. I could spend an hour in there easily! They have great sandwiches, some specialty items for cooking, unparalleled selection of(wine liquor and beer) Tonight I was looking for something new in the beer section. Ben, the tall guy in the beer section was very helpful, and knowledgeable. I told him what I was looking for a beer, and his suggestion was spot on.(Founder’s Harvest Ale) I have been recommending this store for the last 20 years and will continue to do so. They have never disappointed me.

Love this place! Is it indeed a mix of a Liquor store and an Italian grocery. It’s perfect. I’ve been here many times, because I’m within walking distance of Martys. I also have their Wine Card, which lets you sample different wines from a neat little machine, using a points system. Admittedly, I haven’t used mine in a few months, but I aim to remedy that. The BOOZE: Marty’s has a vast selection of Wines. You probably won’t leave empty handed, as they carry most everything you could probably want. All regions, all types. The staff is knowledgeable about their product as well. They have a discount aisle, where you can typically grab a bottle that has been marked down by 50% or more. It’s a great way to try a $ 20 bottle of wine at a $ 10 price point. I always look down this aisle first. The beer selection is good. The basics, plus a whole bunch of craft stuff. I do enjoy an occasional 6 pack of something unique. But the last two times I went, I was specifically looking for Miller 64(don’t judge), which they didn’t have, but a staff worker offered to check the back for me, and I was happy he did that. Nice guy. You can also find wine tasting and samples there, on most weekends. Also, you’ll find mixers and hard liquors on the back wall. They have it all. The FOOD: The DELI is amazing! All Boars Head for the cold cuts. Everything you could want. Breads are awesome too! I suggest the French, if you want crusty, chewy goodness of fresh baked bread! Spreads galore… spicy mayo, mustards, relish type stuff too. YUMMM. All the fixins. They have a small grocery section for some specialty foods. Canned and Jars sauces, cookies, candies, Frozen pastas, some frozen seafood, and a host of artisan cheeses. You can easily come here and get everything you need for a wine and cheese party in one stop! Crackers, cheeses, breads, spreads, and a few bottles of vino. OVERALL: Marty’s is an easy 5 star choice. With made-to-order sandwiches and a huge selection of booze, I suggest you stop in on any day, order a sandwich, then shop for some wine or beer, while your sandwich is crafted. It is also conveniently located next to Whole Foods, should you want to complete your grocery shopping as well. Go to Martys first though!

The best specialty food and liquor store in the area. Their knowledgable staff will help you traverse the wide selection of imported and local beers, wine, and liquors. The deli section holds fresh meats, cheeses, and preservatives. With sections ranging all prices, there is something for everyone here.

Very rude– provided contradicting information. They transferred me five times and were just not polite in any fashion. Very disappointed after seeing so many high ratings; the manager was especially rude.

Consumers should note that The Marty’s Liquor’s clerk Jennifer who dropped the bottle on my foot apologized to me and said sorry, admitting it was her fault. I never dropped the bottle as my arms were full, which is why I asked her to put the bottle in my cart for me. She then placed it in the top section of the cart, and it went through the hole and onto my foot with some force. I asked her to put it in my cart because my hands were full, I didn’t say pass it to me. It was an accident(an honest mistake I believe) on her part, and she wasn’t careful with how she placed the bottle. I believe Marty’s is responsible. It took 8 months for my nail to grow back and I was in pain for over a month. It strikes me as very disrespectful that this company did not respond to the email I sent or the letter I sent by certified mail. It was ONLY when I wrote this on Unilocal that I got a response. I’d be very interested in seeing this security tape myself, as apparently we have very different views of what happened. Beyond the $ 403.90 in medical bills, there is the principle of this issue. The fact that the clerk was the only person who apologized for what happened. It is true that the clerk helped me after she apologized, and I appreciated her helping me, but that doesn’t change the fact that I do not believe this incident was not my fault It is my opinion that a business where this happened at the VERY least owed me the courtesy of a direct response to my certified letter, whether they thought it was their fault or not– they could have written to me directly what they wrote here. It was only when their public identity was mentioned on Unilocal that they responded. I didn’t write the review to get a response from them, I wrote the review because I felt I was treated with disrespect and wanted to express that, and felt others should know. None of my friends will shop there, there are plenty of other places to buy wine! P. s. Several people noted that my review was helpful. To those who said it was funny, I don’t appreciate or understand that. I’m an honest, respectable person who deserves to be treated well and with respect at any store, just like any consumer. It’s not funny to get hurt and go to the ER, and it’s less funny to be treated as I was. Stores have insurance for a reason, to protect people in the event that someone gets hurt.

A little pricier than your local tiny liquor store, but then again if you’re coming here you’re probably looking for more than a 30 rack of Bud Light. Full deli and cheese counter with friendly staff who will let you sample whatever you want. Great wine selection with helpful staff and a TON of craft beer. This is probably the best selection around and it’s impossible not to find something interesting. Oh — don’t forget about the little bags of bulk candy like gummy sharks and neon sour worms.

It’s awesome what they’ve done with this place. I’ve been grabbing lunch here for years and the deli can’t be beat — boar’s head, yes please! Their beer selection is unmatched by anyone in the area. It seems their wine selection has the same going for it but I can’t say I’ve spent much time there. Everyone I’ve dealt with at Marty’s has been super nice and helpful. It just seems everyone there is happy to be where they’re at, and they give off a real positive vibe. Sometimes that can make all the difference.

I would’ve originally given this store a 5/5, since I’m/was a huge fan of the deli department(Boar’s Head). I use to order their sandwiches 3 – 4 per week, but now I’m not sure If I ever want to go back. I’m conflicted because I love their sandwiches. I just want to say, beware of asking questions to their more recent older female worker. I asked her nicely about a question I had regarding the type of bread on another sandwich because I was interested in trying it out for my next order, but she just snapped back at me three times that I had ordered what I ordered. She wasn’t even paying attention to my question because, if she had listened, she would have understood that I was only curious about one type of bread from their selection as opposed to complaining about the order I got. I brushed off this encounter with her, but she was just as rude the following day when I ordered another sandwich. The thing that bothers me is that my question was completely unrelated to the bread that was put on my sandwich — I knew what I had ordered, it was done correctly, and I had no problem with the sandwich at all. Regardless of what question I asked, she made it seem like I was continuously giving her a hard time. Be careful of her, she’s as rude as they come. All of that aside, everyone else is friendly. As for sandwich recommendations, I really enjoy the Waltzing Matilda. I would recommend this sandwich to anyone who orders from Boar’s Head.

Didn’t really know what to expect walking in, but boy am I glad we did! Their selection is awesome, seriously huge. They have every kind of booze imaginable, and had a ton of rare beers and aged beers to peruse and purchase. There was also a free tasting going on. If anyone’s complaining about service, sure, it’s understaffed, but the staff I spoke to were all polite even when busy.
