I never hated a studio that much. It is an old dingy place, but most importantly I hated the atmosphere there. Being a working mom they are extremely non accommodating. Once I drove from work to class an was a few minutes late-they did not let me in. I signed up for half a year and after a month realized it was not for me. They refused to stop charging my account…

Thanks to Jazzercise — NOWEIGHTGAINOVERTHANKSGIVING !!! Classes were offered everyday over the holidays(often more than one class a day) Stephanie did an all request class Thanksgiving morning! How great to dance to fun music, burn calories, relieve stress, and strength train before facing the turkey.

A great, fresh facility with new dance floor and friendly atmosphere. A total workout in an hour including strength training and aerobics. You won’t be the least fit, oldest or youngest, You don’t need a dance background — the instructors are great and easy to follow. You’ll feel better and stronger a! nd have fun First class is complimentary

I love the Newton Jazzercise Center! I came to class not having done any Jazzercise before and was warmly welcomed by the instructor and other students. There were a variety of skill levels and plenty of equipment to go around(weights, balls, etc). I also greatly appreciated the free child care. This not the kind of big gym where you work with your headphones between strangers in a sterile, fluorescent environment, but a friendly community where you do far more than just stay fit.

I agree with another commenter that the studio is dilapadated. The music, moves, and crowd are great, but the scenery leaves something to be desired. I would expect a studio this dingy to be in a low income area, so for it to be in a desirable area, such as Newton, it’s a bit shocking.

I have become a Saturday /Sunday morning regular at Jazzercise, which combines elements of dance, resistance training/weights, Pilatesand yoga. The 50 minute or so class provides a good cardio workout, and many of the dance routines use body resistance or weights to tone and strengthen different muscle groups. I love that the class ranges from women who are grandmothers to women decades younger, with a few men. It is unpretentious, and a great workout. There are weekday and evening classes too. This sentence is the start of an update 1÷3÷09. I realize that this is also a community center of sorts — a place to get recommendations(got a pt referral for my son), bring your batteries to recycle and your books to swap. One of the instructors organizes a team for the Breast Cancer walk each year, in honor of the instructors and class members who have battled breast cancer. They also have done warm-ups for the Alzheimers Walk, encouraging class members to come and help warm up the crowd. Every year the Center adopts a family, and takes up a collection for their Christmas gifts. In this electronic world it is a nice«real world» touchstone.
