Rainbow roll is out of this world!!! My favorite sushi place in all of PA. Also the fries trio is amazing and spicy edamame. Great food and service. Never can go wrong!

Just«ok.» Bar design is weird in that it’s a semi-circle that goes towards the bartender so it eliminates a lot of good bar space. I would’ve changed that setup when I bought the place because you can never have too much good bar space. Sushi is good but if you don’t get it at happy hour prices, it’s expensive. Wines are all really expensive. Beer was ice cold so give em props for that. I will be back because the milfs come out at night and it’s always nice going home with some older chick in Newtown Square with money instead of bussing it back down Rt 3 to my humble abode in Upper Darby.

Love this place! Sit at the bar if you can find a seat… bartenders are very attentive, drinks are on point. Almost every night, a musician is in house, which makes for fun entertainment. The whole menu is great!

I heard good things about this place specifically the food, but after hearing about a previous experience with the service i was hesitant to try-wish I didn’t because the same thing happened to me. Our reservations were for 5o’clock, food and drinks were great and we spent over $ 200. The problem occurred when half of the party wanted to stay and get more drinks, we asked our waitress if it would be possible to get the check and then start another tab. Our waitress then said no she did not think that would be possible, and then proceeded to ask us how long we had been at this table-meaning we had been there too long. She said our reservation was for 5 and that she had another reservation for 7:30. This happened at about 6:50 plenty of time to have another round of drinks-we were not asking to just squat at the table we were going to spend more money at this restaurant. In all the restaurants and bars I have been to I have never been asked«how long i had been there».really? We were paying customers who were going to continue to spend money there but because we had already been there for quite some time that apparently wasn’t possible. The main question I am curious about is if at 7:30 when the other reservation came in, if I was still eating would I have been asked to get up with my food? Will not be coming back especially since this is the SECOND time this has happened.

FABULOUSFOOD!!! Rarely does one encounter a restaurant that does ITALL(all different types of food) EXCEPTIONALLYWELL; this is THAT place. Wonderful, fresh sushi & delicious soups, salads, & apps(like quesadillas), etc. And the entertainment is GREAT too!!!

The 2 black girls working the lunch shift were rude. My fries were extremely salty. I had to wipe each one off, making them difficult to enjoy. The manager was pleasant but these girls need to go to the KOPCFA restaurants for appropriate training. Their attitude is what you are expected to encounter at McDonalds. I was in the area for business and will NOT bring my business to this CFA!

we came up on a whim one Saturday night and this place is jumping. but, my one regret is i was slightly over dressed. they are a nice hangout, a bit pricey All in all i will come back pro:the food, and the atmosphere. the Happy hour is lovely(i haven’t actually been but i have seen pictures) con: it gets crowded during happy hour and it can get costly.

It’s all about the movies! Countless owners of this revolving door property can’t seem to figure out that this needs to be the headline in forty point font in the marketing plan for any restaurant that takes a shot here! This is conservative Newtown Square and you’re next to an insanely popular movie theater. Compliment them and prosper or dare to march to a different drummer and pay the price. I stopped in late afternoon today because guess what, I was going to the movies! The movie parking lot was busy but I was the only one in the restaurant for the entire 75 minutes of my stay. That’s a hint people! I sat at the bar and enjoyed the ATMOSPHERE. It was contemporary, cool and comfortable. My bartender was attentive and competent which was easy as I was the only one at the bar. I ordered an Italian gin & tonic for $ 11 and it was delicious. My CUSTOMERSERVICE was just fine. I ordered the special flatbread which was Italian sausage and broccoli rabe for $ 13. It arrived fairly quickly and was unexpectedly almost cold. How the hell does that happen when the place is empty! Despite the temperature it was tasty. So my FOOD was adequate at best. Speaking of food, as many others have mentioned, nobody can figure out if this is Japanese or fusion or Italian or American or some crazy mix of everything. How about if you are just a regular every day Joe going to the movies and looking for a decent burger? No problem. You can get one here for $ 16! Yikes! It better be fantastic for that price. As I was leaving to go to my movie, just out of curiosity, I walked next door to the sports bar. The bar was full. Interesting! My prediction is it won’t be long before the revolving door continues.

I really enjoyed my experience here and will definitely be stopping by again. A few friends and I were headed to the movies and decided to go here before and grab some dinner. We let the server know that we had a movie to catch in a couple hours and they were helpful in making sure we had plenty of time to get there. It’s a very different kind of place with an open layout and crazy décor. The menu was kind of similar in that it had no set theme to it; rather than it being a set Italian, Spanish, or Japanese menu there was a variety of food to order which worked out well for my group. We started off with a flatbread and a couple of their appetizers, which were great to share. After that I got their tacos, while my buddy got their burger, and my other friends ordered some sushi. I thought it was really cool that we all could find something to suit our tastes all in one place. My tacos needed a bit more of a kick to them, but other than that the food was great. I’m not a beer drinker but my friend said that they had a nice selection on tap, and I will say I enjoyed their new take on a gin and tonic. All in all I like the place and plan on checking out their happy hour in the future. The reason I am giving it four stars is it is not a place I would go to every night, but one I am going to take family and friends to again and again. The live entertainment is something I haven’t found in the area before and makes it stand out.

I was sitting in whatever they are calling Winners Circle, waiting for friends to grab a few drinks before seeing a movie at the Edgemont Regal when I received the text. There was a change of plans and we would be meeting at the Crazy Sofa instead. My first thought was, «What the hell is the Crazy Sofa!?» I had to Unilocal it to realize it was located in the spot where at least a half dozen other places had failed. It’s like the house built on an old Indian burial ground in Poltergeist, where they removed the tombstones but NEVERREMOVEDTHEBODIES! Luckily, I was just able to pay for my beer at Double Edge? and walk over to Sofa. I found my friends immediately at the bar. I asked the very friendly barkeep what their draft Stout of Porter was and she told me it was Guinness, which is fine but I’d like to see places get more creative with these options, even in the IPA dominated spring and summer months. They had a Tues/Wed happy hour food special of $ 5 apps. I think between the 5 of us, we tried each one, and they were all out of this world and definitely worth coming in to try. Specifically, I had the potato skins, which were the most decadent and delicious skins I’ve ever had. I was really pleasantly surprised. I didn’t try any of the other apps but my mates all looked pleased with their choices and they looked good enough for a few return visits. There seemed to be a shift change at the bar as towards the end of our visit another great bartender was there to serve us. He knew that fine line between friendly service and being too hands on and was perfect. Having bartended myself, I was really appreciative. I was there maybe 45 minutes before I realized that the music pimping through the restaurant was being performed live. What I really liked was that the music was at a level that if you wanted to enjoy it you could but you could also talk with and hear your dinner guests if you wanted to. Overall, I’d say that Crazy Sofa earned our return business and seems to be the new meet up spot before movies. I highly recommend it to anyone in the area.

Went for cocktails with girlfriends after seeing a movie at the Regal. Our drinks were very good and exactly how we ordered them. The menu is Asian fusion style. Aside from a ceasar salad there is nothing basic/American on the menu. I had the vegetable spring rolls which were good. I had hoped for french fries or something simple to munch on. There were a variety of flatbreads but I’m lactose intolerant so I couldn’t eat those. Some of the entrees looked good but were in the $ 18 – 23 price range, and I wasn’t going to spend that much for a snack. We sat out on the patio and had good service. Only giving 3 stars because the food selection was disappointing. I was not expecting Asian fusion from a place called the Crazy Sofa… Definitely expected more of a home-cooking style of restaurant.

It’s always unfortunate when a restaurant has decent food but lacking on the good service… It took our waitress awhile to greet us which was fine but it took her even longer to come back to take our order. We sat there for a good 20 – 30 minutes before we were able to place our order. I took my fiancé here for his birthday dinner. I left a comment on opentable when I made the reservation and called day of to tell them it was his birthday to see if they could do something nice. I was told they would however, nothing… Onto the food– we ordered the shrimp flatbread, stallion and a special roll. I recommend the stallion roll.

My girlfriend and I managed to get out Sunday at 9. We love sitting at the fire pit. We showed up and it was closed. Please add a close date to the schedule so we don’t waste our time again.

The latest incarnation of the late lamented Roux 3 sounded interesting. Unfortunately, that is where it ended. We ordered the spicy duck wontons for an appetizer. The deep fried wonton rappers tasted more like pizza dough. Although they looked appetizingly golden and bubbly they were thick and in places soggy. The filling had neither the flavor nor texture of duck. When the wonton was cut with a fork a sodden gray-brown thick liquid emerged. The soba noodles had some sesame but also an unexpected vinegar taste. The«special» shrimp kebabs were tough and flavorless, tasting more microwaved than grilled. The rice was undercooked. A hamburger ordered without any of the special things like bacon, cheese, sauce, was tasty on a brioche bun. It was correctly cooked. The fries seem to have been dredged in a flavoring with crispy properties à la Burger King. The menu seemed bizarre with a lot of sushi rolls and a little sushi. You would have to be unbalanced to order it in this kind of establishment. Dishes seemed overly complex and loaded with fat. An $ 11 pomegranate margarita was very alcoholic but had no special flavor. We ordered none of the overpriced wine. The décor was schizophrenic, with all the wide screens of a sports bar, pseudo Hard Rock musical instruments on the walls and garish paintings. A 2-man live band played poor covers of alt indy songs. Unfortunately Crazy Sofa needs a psychiatrists couch, a restaurant consultant and a complete menu makeover. It is too bad, because Newtown Square/Edgemont would benefit from a nice, non-chain restaurant in its main entertainment site but this location seems to be cursed with even excellent places like Sang Kee failing with schlocky downgrades from their other successful sites. If you like high quality food and good value, this is not the place to get them.

This was my first and most likely, my only visit to the crazy sofa. At first glance the décor is very strange. It looks like penny wise the clown decided to open a restaurant. The food that my girlfriend and I ate was reasonably priced and pretty decent. But our issue lied with the bar. The price gouging is ridiculous. As a former employee of the restaurant industry, they’re pretty bad. Our first drinks were a poorly made. Our Manhattan and a old fashion were made with to much sweet vermouth(manhattan) and muddled sugar(old fashion). If you can’t make a staple drink for any bar properly then you shouldn’t be bar tending. My second drink was just a double of Jim Beam since that’s pretty hard to screw up. But $ 17.50 for a double of Jim beam is ridiculous. Needless to say I was pretty shocked by the bill.

I wanted to really like the Crazy Sofa. After two happy hour and two meal visits I can’t say I do. The happy hour menu is heavy on sushi and I don’t eat it. Wings were fair. Flatbreads ok. For dinner I had short ribs one time that was ok. The menu is all over the place obviously by design. Cocktail list was not very imaginative. Wine by the glass was ok. Service was ok. Heard singer with guitar twice. Was ok. Good news is place has been crowded so my business won’t be missed. You can do much better than this spot for food and drink.

I came in for a romantic evening, however this isn’t really that kind of place, the bar was packed with sloppily drunk and horny old men and women. The dining room was also packed and there is limited seating. luckily we made a reservation, unlucky they didn’t have a table picked out for us we just had to wait. Now, I had been dying to go to a piano bar and was thinking all of the seats would have a view of the piano. No… we got stuck in the back, even with our reservation. That was dissappointing but what was even more was that I brought it up with the manager and he just brushed it off. The sushi was five star The large plates were just ok The host and manager warrant this two star rating… completely unorganized and chaotic.

I heard great things about this place, and when I walked in I thought, uh oh, this looks corporate, not original, which often makes me cringe since I am not a big fan of chains(there are notable exceptions to that) but this place seems to be original. The décor is fairly standard, nice, and kind of modern, there are indeed some sofas and lots of tables for dining. What was most impressive was the food, a truly eclectic mix of Asian, Mexican and European flavors, sometimes in the same dish! We had about nine small plates and all but one were very good, and the bad one was the calamari. It was swimming in a tasteless sauce which of course made the calamari soggy instead of crispy. But highlights included the duck wontons, the coconut crusted shrimp, the Knockout and Nacho Libre. All had big flavors, colors and textures. The menu seems well thought and well executed. The drinks were well done, the cosmopolitan wasn’t too sweet, and the margarita was good. Service was great. We were there at 6:30pm and the live music was a singer/guitarist who was fairly good and a bit loud of course but not so loud that you couldn’t converse with your table mates. A nice night out!

Going out on a limb here… But I think the Crazy Sofa is here to stay! If you are familiar with this location, you know there have been several restaurants in this same spot. All failed! The Crazy Sofa is the first one I’m a fan of and I’m sure I will be going back again soon! What’s different about the Sofa? For one, they play live music everyday. Right in the middle of the restaurant! Starting around 5 or 6, they have someone making music for your dining pleasure. The first person I saw was solo playing acoustic guitar and singing… when they finished a 3 man band brought their equipment out and setup on stage. It’s kinda funny when you walk in the front door and see them right in the middle of the restaurant, but it works well IMHO. You can check their entertainment calendar to see who is playing and when. It can be a bit loud, but it’s not at all like you are at a concert screaming to be heard. This is a sushi\tapas\flatbread place. Odd mix? They pull it off… they also have entrees which they call«Large plate». I do not like fish\seafood but have had 2 lovely meals here and will be back for more! The oven Roasted Wings with Spiced Berry BBQ and Carmelized Onion were AMAZING! Also very messy! **** Crazy Sofa, can you please invest in some Wet Naps? You really need them to eat these wings, and I’d think any tapas place would want to keep these handy so everyone’s fingers are clean! **** The Crispy Calamari was a hit at our table… the calamari was excellent and comes with roasted\breaded portobello… Not that I would touch it with a stick, but my brother and wife loved it! **** Crazy Sofa, the portobello served with the calamari was so good my brother suggests you make it an appetizer! **** The sushi rolls were also well received, again by my brother and wife… she had the Saki To Me and my brother The Stallion. They both liked the Saki To Me, but agreed the Stallion stole the show! For my non seafood self I had the steak and the burger on my 2 visits… the steak was on special and encrusted in gorgonzola, which I declined. It was cooked to perfection but seemed to lack any seasoning at all… which is tough when you are at a restaurant that doesn’t have salt and pepper on the tables… I asked for A1, but they don’t have any! The server was very kind and checked with the kitchen who recommended some peppercorn brandy sauce which worked out great! I didn’t ask for salt and pepper… would that be a faux pas? Maybe I’ll sneak my own in next time… The burger was also good, but also served with blue cheese, stilton this time… I’d much rather have american on my burger than anything else, the stilton was overwhelming… **** Crazy Sofa, can you offer more cheeses\sauces for your burger\steak\non seafood stuff? **** Service was good, but we definitely had a tale of 2 servers on our 2 visits. The southern belle that took care of us on our first visit was nothing short of amazing. You will know here when she asks«how are y’all doing tonight?» Our second server, a guy whose name i won’t mention, was really personable, but seemed a bit out of his league. On our second visit we sat at one of the«small tables». Party of 3 in these BIGCOMFYLOUNGE chairs with a table the size of a serving tray… If you aren’t comfortable at one of these tables ask to be relocated… they had to stagger our appetizers and entrees so our food\drinks could fit on the table… this is great if you are only having drinks and apps, but can be troublesome if you are having anything else for dinner… This staggering stretched dinner out to almost 2 hours… We were not in a rush so it was fine, but you may want to request a bigger table if you want to stretch out. Another odd thing about the seating on the upper level… there is a long bench with several tables in front of it… and chairs on the other side of the table from the bench… the chairs are noticeably LOWER than the bench… we noticed all the taller patrons sitting on the chairs with their shorter dates on the bench to even things out… We ended up both sitting on the bench after dinner to watch the show, but it is a bit odd. In any case, I’m very happy to have the Crazy Sofa in the Square and think it’s going to stick around for a while! Good food, good music, nice atmosphere! Check it out, they have only been open a month or so and have been getting great reviews!

Overall very nice and I will be back. The seating is nice(same as the previous owner Sankee Noodle Bowl) except for a few couches placed at the entrance. The staff was extremely attentive which was great too. Live acoustic music while we where there covering DMB, John Mayer, etc around 6pm. My issue is with the food… 1. The dinners called large plates are excellent. I had the Braised Beef Ribs, wife had the Pistachio crusted Salmon. 2. They need to work on the appetizers. Ordered the stuffed potato chips. Literally 4 waffle potato chips with a clump of cheese on top. 3. They serve bruschetta while you wait but it’s more like 4 pieces of hard biscotti with a half shot glass full of topping for the table. 4. Dessert was good, shot glasses filled with various chocolate mousses. I will return for the live band after 9pm and order dinner and a beer. If they make a few tweaks this place could be great.
