A few people we know talked up this pizza place… we were not impressed. Maybe it’s because we are from NY and NY knows pizza but this pizza place was just average. I felt I could have got a similar quality from the grocery store and stuck the frozen pizza in my oven. Pizza was edible and if I was in the area and need to grab food I might stop by again but ehhh nothing made it convincing for me to desire to only eat pizza from Carminuccio’s Pizza.

I stopped by here on a recommendation from a friend. I’m going to say it was a decent well made pie but I’ve had some really great pizza in the past. My favorites in CT are Sally’s in New Haven, Roseland in Derby, Fat Cat in Norwalk. I like Pepe’s a lot too but it’s not my top pie either. The sauce was pretty typical pizza standard fair… I like a richer flavor in my sauce which is why I tend to lean toward a Sally’s or Roseland. I ordered broccoli rabe, garlic and prosciutto and to be honest, the prosciutto looked like regular ham but I’ll take their word for it… I’m used to a more thinly sliced, saltier prosciutto. The broccoli rabe and garlic were very good though. I’ll put it this way. I wouldn’t not go there again but it wouldn’t be a place that popped into my mind to stop into to satisfy a craving for it. Above average? Maybe. Best in CT? Not in my book.

Good pizza, used to be great. Probably still the best in the area but they could do better, they have in the past.

I’ve always thought this place bribed someone for its glowing accolades. They are, without question, a good pizza place. But the«best» honor should be reserved for those who are less conventional. They don’t have a brick oven. The crust is fairly chewy and doesn’t really snap. Ingredients are very high quality, but the end product leaves something to be desired.

Yay Carminuccio’s! Gonna feed Friends of C. H Booth book sale volunteers again. Sale July 11 – 15. Set up takes a week! Lots of hungry grateful people. Delicious pizza keeps us going! Thanks in advance.

Some of the worst pizza I have ever had. Crust was like cardboard… place is gross inside…

Not a fan. Slices are a good size but the pizza is overly greasy. We had to use 3 napkins to soak up the grease before we could eat the pizza. Subs are a good size and OK.

Picked up a large pie from these guys yesterday and it was great. Made on time and tasted delicious. Can’t ask for more :)

I absolutely love Carminuccio’s PIzza!!! I’ve never had anything bad there and I’m always going out of my way to enjoy a slice of their pizza. Their baked ziti is delicious with their homemade sauce, I love their«The Marko» grinder, but on a wrap with ranch dressing, and their pizza is awesome. I’ve been going here for years and wish I had found it sooner. Even on a busy night, the owner finds time to look over the counter where he is personally making the pizzas to talk to you and make sure you’re enjoying yourself. Sometimes things can be a little pricey, but overall, I think it’s worth it. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Newtown, Carm’s has a little bit of everything, but make sure you get there early because it’s a small place and it fills up fast.

We regularly drive 25 minutes each way for Carminuccios pizza, and it’s worth every drop of gas. Found it originally back when Gourmet Magazine had Jane and Michael Stern writing Two For the Road. Always get the sausage, roasted garlic, roasted red pepper and spinach, along with a white pie with basil for my son, a stuffed pizza bread for when we’re too busy to cook, and some Foxton birch beer and gassosa. Ummm, no we don’t like this place at all…

I don’t know how in the world anyone can say this is good pizza! I have to say its the worst I’ve ever had! First of all they’re way overpriced! Second. the pizza is just AWFUL! It tasted like it was baked in a dirty oven that was smoking off old baked on food and the cheese had an awful chemical taste like plastic or something weird! I would suggest that they taste their own food and see for themselves how awful it is!!!

Not the best pizza in Connecticut folks. Don’t believe the hype. Just regular pizza made by teenagers. Best pizza in Ct. No way. If the do have an award it was paid for. Just plain boring pizza.

This is my favorite pizza place. They make the best pizza around southern CT and it is even better than everything I’ve tried in Rochester, NY. If you like thin crust pizza, this is the place to go.

Had a great slice of thin crust cheese. Not too fond of how they dump a pile of cold chopped meat on your slice and consider that a meatball cheese slice. But we enjoyed none-the-less. But, yes there’s a BUT… as we left, on the side of the building facing the parking lot, there were 2 grizzled looking guys(employees?) — one of which was cleaning a huge ankle or foot wound with a hose. Blood everywhere, and they just sprayed it down the walkway. Pretty skeevey fellas.

For the following that they have & as busy as they get I must say — these guys are FAST! They can grind out some pies! So the fact that you don’t wait for what feels like eternity to get your pie is a big plus. These pies remind me of old school pizza parlor pies. Not New York-style. Not Naples style. Not New Haven style either. The crust’s edge is like cracker crispy & crunchy. The pie is thin & the interior of the the dough is foldable but not under done. No char or corn meal. The tomato sauce is sparse– I would have preferred more as it was tangy & cooked perfectly just not enough of it. The mozzarella is buttery w just the right amount of salt. We had the clams casino –which is white– which comes w sweet red peppers & chunks of onions– didn’t like that but added bacon– which I was told was excellent quality, not too salty. Ample toppings. Clams were tender. I had the eggplant. Thin fried squares were good w a creamy texture & not oily. I really wanted more sauce. I anticipated more flavor. The service is super friendly, no attitude, happy to serve & the prices are very good. The variety to the menu is just right & doesn’t go over board cramming all the Average Italian American items in «just bcz» but offers what most of us want/crave/expect. All in all though this pie isn’t for me. See my Pizza List ;)

This place serves some amazingly delicious pizza. The menu is big enough to have something for everyone but small enough that if you’re totally indecisive(like me) it doesn’t take you an hour just to narrow it down. The crust is fantastic, the toppings are fresh, and the service is friendly. Only 4 stars because our garlic bread was meh. We don’t usually order appetizers, but we thought this place would have some bomb garlic bread and instead it was just soggy cause it was so soaked in butter. I’d also recommend ordering out if you have a big group or kids. I have children so I don’t mind other kids, but for me, it was hard to wrangle me toddler because the place is so small and the child seat seemed in the way of everybody else. The pizza was just slightly greasy for my liking. Other people probably enjoy that, but I prefer more toppings, less cheese. I should just request that next time, huh? If you want some great pizza in the Northeast Carminuccio’s is a landmark you should definitely try. It’s also very reasonably priced. They do desserts as well but I haven’t had one so I can’t comment on that aspect.

Having had amazing pizza from Lombardi’s in NYC, Frank Pepe’s in New Haven /Danbury CT, Sally’s in New Haven, Pizzeria Mozza in LA, Olio’s in LA, and Mother Dough in LA, I can tell you that Carminuccio’s Pies rank as one of the greats and deserving of it’s national recognition and accolades. The pizza is classic Neapolitan that’s been perfected. The thin crust is chewy in the middle and crispy on the outside — all the way to the center of the pie. Given how thin the crust is, it’s a testament to their culinary greatness that you can hold up each slice without having the the tip flop over. I would eat here every day if I could. Hint: The Stern pizza is to die for: roasted caramelized garlic cloves, roasted red peppers and crumbled sausage.

Carm’s was a great place years ago with quality food. Over the last few years, they went from«one of the best pizza places in the US» to, «world know». I just have to laugh on how and who made these claims. The pizza is still good, but, lost it’s mojo, and they increase their price from year to year. Still good, however, not as good as they use to be.

The raves this place gets are amusing. I know the pizza in the area is underwhelming in general, so this is probably your best bet in Newtown/Monroe. However, best pizza in Connecticut? You guys have to get out more! On to the pizza, it’s solid. Quality toppings. The crust is lacking, which is really the key to an amazing pizza. It can’t compete with New Haven pizza, but it is interesting enough to stand up to anything in the area. If you’re in Newtown and have a hankering for a pie, you can’t go wrong here. And if it hits you like a revelation and it’s the best pizza you’ve ever eaten, well, good for you.
