This is a very good, brick-oven pizza joint. It’s not as yuppie as Jules(to my chagrin), but for the more classic fare, Meglio’s hits all the marks. Their brick-oven pizza is essentially a smaller traditional pizza with cheese and sweet sauce cooked in a brick oven. The crust is a little crispier, and the cheese is maybe less congealed than you’d get at the oil factories. They used to have whole-wheat crust, but did away with that and now have gluten-free, IIRC. There is an off-shoot Mexican menu, which is basically what pizzerias are to Italian food. Think lots of tacos loaded with cheese, tortilla chips, flour burritos, etc. Service is very pleasant, and delivery is SUPER quick. They’ll quote you 45 minutes on the phone, but you can smile and expect 20 — 25. Surprisingly good french fries, too. I wouldn’t eat here for dinner; it’s more of a lunch and delivery place.

Went here for dinner and what a mistake. We ordered a margarita pizza and it didn’t come out like what it would usually come as a margarita pizza. It was basically a regular cheese pizza with a sweet tomato sauce. Typically, a margarita pizza has fresh mozzarella cheese, tomato and basil. The cheesesteak was horrible too! The meat was so dry and it was hard to eat and barely any cheese on it. I ordered one steak taco and it was okay, nothing authentic about it. They put shredded shredded cheese on top, which is odd bc they usually put raw onions and cilantro. I would not recommend this place but would rather go to Marco’s

Very good Sicilian pizza, one of the best in the area. Regular pizza is good too. Definitely a good spot for brick oven pizza. Friendly Staff too.

Granted the pizza is not DeLorenzo’s or Tacconelli’s, however this is not necessary considering their competition. What Meglio’s seems to specialize in, at least from my experience with this is consistency. The plain traditional pizza is good, comes out good and I’ve never gotten a pie that was over sauced or topped with too much cheese. The brick oven pizzas are good though I wish they provided more wood-burn flavor. The ingredients for the brick oven I wish would be a bit more high end however. it is what it is. I don’t go here necessarily for the highest end pizza, however as noted for it’s consistency as at the point of time in which I’m going there I’m not feeling like driving over to DeLorenzo’s in NJ. I look forward to the new place opening up in the spring.

The best thing about this place is the service, who are all pretty much just awesome. Everything else is pretty average. Had a salad and pepperoni pizza, which were both fine. But nothing really stood out, again, except for the service. On a side note, being someone who speaks Italian fluently and lived over there, Meglio’s tauts on their menu and take out box that«in Italian Meglio means Best.» In actuality, meglio just means ‘better’.

Seriously good brick oven pizza. My husband got the 4 cheese(so very flavorful and cheesy with that wood oven, smoky taste) and I got the pesto plus some sausage(absolutely delicious. Fresh pesto, not-too-greasy sausage). We devoured them quickly, but they filled us up! Prices for each were between $ 10-$ 12 depending on additional toppings. Super nice and knowledgeable staff, plenty of seating, good value lunch menu, individual slices also available. Easy to find and to park. We’ll definitely be back to try more pizza and some cheesesteaks!

I’ve personally worked at Meglio’s when I was younger and I have to say the food is fresh! I’ve seen it being made and I was never grossed out, which a is a great sign. Now that I’m much older I appreciate Meglio’s prices with the quality of their food. The brick oven pizzas are personally my favorite(as a thin crust lover). I also love all the lunch combo’s, they’re great! The staff is always so friendly and I’ve never had a bad experience here.

The wood fired pizza is incredible. The cheese steaks are excellent. The rest of the pizzeria fare they sell is generally very good. But the Mexican items they offer are nothing more than OK. I will occasionally get tacos for a change of pace but always regret not getting the wood fired plain with extra garlic.

I ordered a slice and cheese steak. The slice was thin, didn’t feel like I got the money’s worth. Cheese steak was just ok, the bread was soft but nothing that would blow your mind. It could be because I already had all the great cheese steaks.

I must have eaten the food from Meglio hundreds of times. I am not kidding; I know, I have a problem… Back in the day, Meglio was THEONLY place for a quality pizza in Newtown. Fast forward 20 years and the town now has a plethora of pizza places that they must compete against. What is it with all the pizza places in town by the way? Jeez, it’s like a sea of pizza restaurants, banks and a sprinkle of frozen yogurt establishments. While still a solid pizza joint, it just seems that the standards have slipped the last few times I have ordered here. Although I feel the last few times have left me wanting more, I am still not yet ready to deduct a star. One doesn’t deduct stars for institutions that have religiously treated me well for as long, and as many times as Meglio has. All that being said, there are two menu items that have never failed me from Meglio, and that is the Sausage Parm, as well as the awesomely priced buffalo wings… YUM! I do have a bone to pick with one other item that ISN’T on the menu: Breaded Broccoli with cheese dipping sauce. For all that is good in this world, Meglio, please bring these bad-boys outta retirement. My future cardiologist will probably thank you for pulling them off of the menu, but I would love for them to make a comeback. It has been years since I have had them and I still haven’t gotten over the loss… In summary, a long time Newtown institution that has good food and good prices that this Unilocal reviewer won’t give up on.

This used to be my go-to place for cheesesteak sandwiches and Sicilian pizzas during my middle school and high school years(which was almost a decade ago — yes, they’ve been around that long!). I haven’t been back in at least 5 years but I remember their cheesesteaks being pretty darn awesome. In all those years, I only sat down to eat once and I remember the service being decently prompt, friendly, and helpful. The atmosphere is decent — just your typical, small, family-owned pizzeria. Although there’s plenty of seating, I remember during peak hours and holidays, they’d fill up quickly. I’ve only ever ordered three things from them: cheesesteaks, regular pizzas, and plain Sicilian pizzas. I’d highly recommend their cheesesteaks! They chop the beef finely and mix it with just the right amount and right kind of cheese to get a prime cheesesteak sandwich. Their regular oven-baked pizzas are ok; There’s nothing really all that special about them. I’d almost prefer chain pizza stores’ pizza to Meglio’s pizza. At least Domino’s, Papa John’s, and Pizza Hut have their distinctive flavor profiles. Meglio’s pizza just tastes… «flat,» by pizza standards. If you do want to order pizza here, though, I recommend getting the Sicilian. The taste is still nothing to gawk at, but the way they make the dough for the Sicilian is great! It’s crunchy on the bottom and edges while still retaining fluffiness throughout. Still, though, cheesesteaks was and always will be the reason I went to Meglio. Food: 3⁄5 — pizzas are decent; cheesesteak is fantastic! Service: 3⁄5 — good Atmosphere: 3⁄5 — like any other family-owned pizza place, though maybe with a bit more seating Overall: 3⁄5 — good

Update: I’ve decided I’m just not a fan of their pizza. The sauce seems to be the same on every kind of pizza and is over-seasoned. Recently ordered a Brooklyn pizza and it was basically their old world tomato pie, but bigger, with more sauce, and not much cheese. Their house dressing is one of my favorites. Still love the Mexican menu and their customer service is great. Pizza — 2 stars Service — 5 stars Mexican — 5 stars

Very rude! Tried to call late at night to understand when they’d take the last order and the person picking up the phone mumbled that they were closing up. Then the«gentleman» decides to hang up without saying anything else. I decided to call back and he rudely tells me that they are closing up and YELLS that they are closing up and people are coming to clean the hoods. I understand that I called a half hour before they closed but that’s why I wanted to ask first, but never got the chance. However, I would have expected somebody in a sales business to understand the importance of being nice to every customer regardless of the situation. Just an overall lack of good customer service, so I wouldn’t be able to say how good the food is because I’ll never eat there after this experience

I don’t remember why Meglio’s fell off my «Go To» list a few years ago, but when I drove by it last week I realized I had not been there in quite some time. Maybe it was the new competition in Newtown that led me to other outlets for my pizza and cheesesteak fix. Maybe it was the sameness of the offerings. Regardless, it was time for a return visit. So, I went back for lunch a few days ago. The space is about the same, with the wood oven on the left, and the dining room on the right. The table layout remained the same with mostly deuces and quads around the room. At 1, the place was buzzing. A few business lunches, and some post-yoga cool downs. The menu was all about pizza, cheesesteaks and salads at lunch, although the few dinner entres looked appealing. The prices were surprisingly reasonable. It was possible to get out for under $ 10 @ lunch, perhaps because the shop was in an older strip center and the rent is decent. To ease my way back into their kitchen, I ordered a Chicken Cheesesteak with Fried Onions. It arrived a few minutes later loaded with the prime ingredients. The roll was soft, but fresh and pliant. The amount of chicken in the sandy was enormous, and with the cheese and onions was a lot to eat. The biggest pleasant surprise was how juicy it was. It had been taken from the grill in time to avoid dryness, and the onions complemented the meat and cheese well. I mentioned this to my lovely server, and she just smiled and said she had cooked it for me. No reason to doubt her. I won’t let another half decade go by without returning for more dishes. Pizza comes next. However that turns out, I am definitely a fan of the Chicken Cheesesteak.

My family used to go here a lot when I was a kid, but I recently returned for a quick early bird special dinner with my mom. I don’t think I had been there in 6 or 7 years. It seems like the same old place. I used to like the pizzas, but went with a buffalo wrap. It was pretty good, nothing special. My mom got a meatball sandwich which was tasty.

Coworkers and I usually split a pizza and a cheese steak. Couldnt see the cheese in the sandwich but was mixed i with the meat. Can’t beat fresh bread toasted in the oven! Got the fra diavolo by mistake(devil hot), couldn’t finish it but still good. Good service.

The only reason I rated this place 3 stars was because of previous experiences. After my recent experience, I should rate this place a 1 or 2. To start off, I love their pizza, cheesesteaks, and cheese fries!! The Cannolis are another favorite of mine. They are the best things on the menu! To follow, I like the Special K sandwiches(chicken, provolone cheese, and red pepper on a roll or wrap), and the salads. They are okay, and I’d recommend them with the understanding that they are nothing special! Now to my current visit, I ordered take out. The onion rings were crispy, but clearly frozen and tasteless. They tasted fried and microwaved. They were a bit chewy. My meal came with soup. The soup was clearly out of a can. I could have opened up a can of Campbell’s Chicken Noodle and gotten the same soup. The main entrée I ordered was the Rigatoni Vodka. It was filled with pruschutto and sundries tomatoes. It tasted fairly god, but later in the day my stomach began to turn and I got food poisoning. Bottom line is I would go back just for the cheesesteak and pizza, but never again for anything else!
