The Niantic Bay Boardwalk is not what I thought it would be. Though it is really nice and has great views and it’s not really packed(I was there on 4th of July weekend), it’s kind of misleading. First of all, it’s not like an Atlantic City boardwalk with attractions or shops on it, which we knew going there. But secondly, I read that it was close to the main street, so we walked all the way from Main Street, which was quite a walk. But there is only one entrance to get on the boardwalk and it’s a dead end. It is a nice walk, but it would have been nicer to exit the boardwalk at the dead end and walk back to the main streets. So if you do want to spend a day or get lunch in Niantic, it’s better to drive down to the boardwalk and park and enjoy it that way!

Parks water and nukes The Niantic Boardwalk is a relatively new and very pleasant place to walk along the water in Niantic. It’s only about a mile long but you can stop on the many benches or go for a dip just about anywhere along the stretch. There are nice views of the the bay and if you are into such things, Millstone Nuclear Power Plant. There is parking under the railroad bridge on the east end or in a little open area on the west end. The east side of the walk is made out of synthetic material, I believe it’s some sort of recycled plastic and the west end is just gravel. Unfortunately being so close to the water is fun for walking but the boardwalk itself takes a pounding form storms. I have seen in under repair several times already and wonder if someday soon a huge storm will completely wipe it away or do so much damage that the town will get tired of repairing it. I certainly hope not because the boardwalk is a great way to get some exercise before going into town and pigging out on Niantic’s great seafood.
