Unfortunately, El Amigo Pepe has closed. They started announcing last summer(July 2015) that they would close in December so that they could focus on their mobile(festivals, county fairs, etc) business. Alas, that time has come and they are no longer running this restaurant. On a potentially positive note, a new sign is up with a new name and advertising Mexican food but I haven’t had the opportunity to check out the new operation yet.

Me and my wife came here looking for anything to eat. Boy were we surprised at how good the food was. Tastes fresh and very authentic. Waitress could have been a little friendlier but the food made up for that. Eat here when you get a chance!

I am in the area on business and visited this establishment earlier today for lunch with a colleague. I had the chimichanga which could easily feed 2 people. All of the meals are made to order. My meal was delicious and well worth the wait to get it fresh. I took most of it with me, as it was too much for me to eat in one setting. I will visit again this week before I leave the area. Amazing!

Excellent service and very friendly staff and owners! Definitely a great place to go to on Saturdays to get barbacoa! Rice and beans aren’t that great, so far it’s a really good taco place.

Decided to try this restaurant because of some good reviews. We have a place in Michigan so we like trying different places on Rte 12 on the trip from Chicago. I had a craving for a steak burrito with extra beans, hubby had 2 tacos. The burrito had very little steak in it, it was more beans than anything. I decided to open the burrito ½ way through and counted 6SMALL pieces of steak in the remaining burrito. My mistake, I should have ordered extra steak, not beans. Coming from Chicago where we have many authentic taco stops could play into this but the lack of meat in the burrito is extremely disappointing. The tacos were merely OK, not worth stopping here again.

Gave El Amigo Pepe a try on a snowy afternoon. I ordered their large sherreded chicken wet burrito and a horchata drink. The burrito came out more-or-less dry. Tasting a bit bland. Though the drink turned out to be really delicious. Might want to try something else on theur menu! Prices are decent, not too expensive for their portions. Gave them 3 stars because it was nothing extraordinary. A one time dine for me in the Niles area. Cheers !

If you LOVE to Support Local Restaurants, you’ll love El Amigo Pepe. It’s a wonderful family-run Mexican Restaurant, serving amazing authentic Mexican food. Everything they make is really good BUT, if you love Tamales, they make, without a doubt, the BEST Tamales anywhere! Also love, love, love their home-made chips and salsa. It is SO worth the drive from where ever you’re coming from… you won’t be sorry you stopped, and I promise, you will want to go back ;)

Omg. This place was delicious. It is just a little hole in the wall place in Niles, which is definitely a small town. My boyfriend and I each got the wet burrito and they were delicious, steak and pork. The house salsa was really tasty as well as the salsa verde and spicy salsa. The burrito was a little to big for me to eat in one setting but the leftovers were great. I definitely suggest stopping here if you are going through Niles

Fantastic food! I’ve never had a bad meal here. The service is always fairly quick and never unfriendly. The parking can be a bit frustrating, but the food is worth it. Prices aren’t bad, a little higher than their competition in Indiana, but I’d rather pay a little more than drive to South Bend. For some reason if you go as soon as they open, the rice and beans taste 100 times better than during the evening. Don’t get me wrong, they are amazing ALL of the time, just must make enough for the whole day in the morning so they are fresher then.

I had the chicken quesadilla. It was alright. It is the most authentic Mexican in the area.

Not a bad spot. Good house fried chips, good salsa and they bring you some of the hot stuff without having to ask. I had the beef chimichanga, it was serviceable but not anywhere near great. I have a feeling there are better choices, just 3 stars until I find the good stuff on the menu. I’ll be back.

I have only eaten here once before, about 2 years ago — it was ok. Last night I ate here again– I had their steak fajitas– again just ok, nothing great. I felt a little«off» later in the evening — I spent most of the next day on the toilet– not pretty! I will NEVER take a chance on this dive again!

I wouldn’t consider this the greatest Mexican food I’ve ever tasted, but it deserves 4 stars for a few reasons and in no particular order… — It’s not a chain restaurant and is probably the most authentic place you’ll find in NIles — Amazing guac and chips(one of the most important factors in my ratings of Mexican food places) — Friendly service(though not the fastest), and fresh food — Good sized portions And of course, I have to mention some of the not-so-amazing things. I wasn’t a huge fan of was the sour cream. Taste was fine, but the consistency was more runny than solid. Salsa had good flavor, but wasn’t spicy enough. For my entrée I ordered pork in my quesadilla. It was a tad dry, but the flavor was great. Really couldn’t complain since they put both cilantro and onions in the quesadilla. How can you go wrong whenever cilantro is in the mix?

Delicious. Server was attentive but not overly so. Salsa was bland but they have hot sauces to spice it up. Chips are fresh and guacamole is awesome. If I lived here, I would definitely return.

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food in the City of Four Flags you are going to be hard pressed to find a place better than this. The moment we pulled up and saw the mural on the side of the building of an Aztec looking warrior and his swooning princess we knew this place was legit. Great selection of tacos in corn or flour tortillas with choice of various meats like chicken, pork, chorizo, beef, and steak. Had the spicy chicken and pork and thought it was great. The service was also good as they brought out a sample of the chorizo for us to try before we ordered. Inside is small but has the colorful wall painting you would expect from a touristy spot somewhere in Mexico. Bathroom was very clean for a fast food place. Chips were also excellent. If you are tired of the same old Hacienda fare check this place out. One of the best I have had in Southwest Michigan.

Exvellent… there is a great authentic Mexican restaurant in Niles, MI!!! So glad we found this place. My family tried different varieties of tacos and they were all good. Hubby had the burrito loco and loved it. The chips were homemade and the salsa was fresh. I foresee coming here everytime we come around this way.
