Katrina b. You have to keep in mind that all the Johnstone stores are locally owned. I believe there are over 5 owners and 10+ stores in the chicago market. For example the Naperville store is a different owner than the downers grove owner. Another example is that the Vernon hills branch is a different owner from the gurnee branch. This can cause a ton of confusion. I would have your dispatcher send all your info to all the branches you use to clear things up.

I don’t know what the hell is up with Johnstone, but they constantly refuse to sell to me. My dispatchers are forever filling out application forms with my information faxing them over and usually by the time all that rigmarole is complete I’ve gone elsewhere to get my parts. It’s like they don’t believe me that I work where I work, am who I am, or do what I do. It’s obnoxious and insulting. I’m baffled that I have the same bullshit experience at every single branch I try to shop at. Of 10 attempts to buy parts in the last three years I’ve successfully purchased one hot surface igniter for $ 7 and I had to use cash. Unbelievable.

I can’t believe I was 1) at a Johnstone supply house and 2) buying the part from here. But, on a Saturday morning when the property is unable to produce hot water and you are in dire need you do what you have to. We were lucky the part we needed was here, contractor supply houses are typically only open till Noon on Saturdays. Saturdays, If you need them to open up for you(after closing) i.e. Johnstone for instance will charge you about $ 150 dollars to open up. The other suppliers all charge different amounts. Grainger is the lowest only charging $ 50. After checking with a competitor in Chicago where they had an alternative part, here they had the exact part and it was seventy dollars cheaper. Great! In and out in under fifteen minutes, they are located in the business area of Niles, a lot less traffic and people.
