Okay, I used to go here to get my hair done. I’ve had perms, highlights, and cuts. But I’ve stopped coming here. The girl that I used to see no longer worked there. They didn’t tell me when I made the appointment though. So when I showed up I had to get a new girl. I asked for a layered cut, the layers started so short that I looked like I had a bad mullet. They don’t speak English, so you can’t really explain what you want to have done. I’ve had friends bring in pictures of what they want done, but if it’s a new style they just give you the basic trim.

I can’t rate this salon anymore. So disregard my rating. I only trusted my hair to Helena and like Jessica S. above. I would wait until I flew back to Chicago from San Francisco for my cuts. I’ve heard other clients fly in from NYC as well. This breaks my heart but Helena has gone back to Korea. I don’t know who else at this salon has any talent. The next time I go to korea. I’m looking her up. I miss Helena. =(

I also get my haircut from Helena– I love her– I have long hair and when I get in the chair she asks«What do you want to do?» I say«I don’t know» and then she just starts. She is sooooo nice and not pretentious and not snobby like some stylist can be. When she is done I feel like a million bucks! I agree with the Pantene commercial reference. She gives me this side swooping bang,(no one has been able to do this to my thick coarse hair). She gives me a lot of cool looking layers it just looks pretty and healthy. I always get a lot of compliments. It’s so easy to manage! Really sad news– Helena is gone, she went back to Korea mid– July. Are there any Helena clients out there that have gone somewhere else and feel satisfied, both in price and cut?

I cannot rave about this place enough!(although I’ll sure as hell try) I’ve been going to the same woman(Helena) for 8 years now and each time I sit in that chair, I tell her the same thing. «Do whatever you feel like and I trust you.» and each time she says«sure??» skeptically with her eyes growing wider and wider and of course she goes to town on my long, coarse black hair and produces miracles shortly afterwards. She and only she will I ever trust with my hair. I’ve donated my hair with her 3 times and each and every short spiky, bob, perm, straight perm, highlight, and trim has ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS gotten compliments after the initial cut and during the growing out phase from strangers and co-workers. This woman does MAGIC! I fly back from San Francisco to get my hair cut ’cause my hair is sacred. All 3 ft. of it. Yeah, we measure it every time it gets close to donation time. Now for some drawback: 1. the person answering the phone will answer in Korean. Just speak English to her and she’ll push through. 2. It’s in Niles. In some ghetto little strip mall connected to a Korean grocery store and a buffet stand. But look past it! 3. Getting in to see her on a weekend is like finding that golden ticket. You gotta bribe peoples and be conniving to get her. Woman is busy I tell you. However: Haircuts are in the low $ 20’s and I still can’t believe it’s that cheap. Helena herself is über sweet and knows her stuff. You’re in good hands with this woman. You’ll have a haircut like no other. She’s a secret gem that your friends will be jealous of. You’ll feel like that Pantene commercial when you step out. I guarantee.
