I just came from a little storefront shop in our village. The store is called Oak Mill Nuts. It’s not located in the Oak Mill Shopping Center, but in a strip mall located right across the street, facing Milwaukee Avenue. Oak Mill Nuts just opened this week, and they are still doing some work in the inside of the store. It’s really rather nice with a large, open space and a vaulted ceiling, a lot of charm that can be used well. The wall are lined with shelf after shelf of bins loaded with goodies!!! All the bins are properly marked, and I feel their prices are extremely reasonable. Not only do they have all sorts of nuts at great prices, but they also have baking nuts and their natural in-the-shell pistachio nuts were at least a few dollars less per pound than at the local store. Did I mention that they have bins of candy? I felt like a kid in there! Wow, they had confections that I’ve never seen before as well as chocolate covered nuts and chocolate covered pretzels of different varieties. I bought a mixture of an Australian candy that looked like very thick, short Twizzlers. I bought the strawberry, mango, and green apples flavors, and I was not disappointed. They also had an assortment of Polish candy delights that one could buy by the piece. I even saw a delight that I have not had for years. Needless to say I scooped up a box. Yummy! Finally, they have a very nice selection of dried fruits, too. Fruits that I have never seen dried before, like dried pear halves and dried Kiwi fruit! I did ask to sample a piece of dried pineapple ring, and I could not believe how naturally sweet it was. They do not put any sugar on any dried fruit. It’s all natural. I can tell you that I could go crazy creating my own version of fresh, trail mix from their store. As I said before, the store is still needing a few essentials, like weigh scales among the products(right now you go to the front to weigh everything, which can actually cost you more if you misjudge the weight just by looking at your bag). The store is plain looking right now, and the scales are coming soon. The owners Lorena and Steve are the nicest people I’ve met in a long time. This type of business is new to them, and I really hope that they do well! On their flyer it says, «Best Prices in the U.S.A.!» They might just be right.
