First, ready Chatzy’s review below as it perfectly sums up our experience. The food is sizeable but not tasty. Greasy, sloppy, and we didn’t eat very much before we threw it away. I would rather risk Chipotle and the E. coli(Escherichia coli) scare.

A night of extreme stomach pain, burning and cramping! Never again! 2 people in my family love this place over any other Mexican place so I gave it a second chance. Such a mistake! I got the chicken burrito. It was tasteless chicken, lettuce, cheese straight from the packaging(not melted at all), and HALF of the burrito was sour cream. I’ve had much cheaper burritos which had more meat, more flavor, and many more ingredients like tomatoes, rice, beans, melted cheese, onions(actual burrito fillings). I suspect that the food was very old, especially the sour cream, because I am still suffering from intestinal pain and burning. I have never experienced this from ANY other food, even extremely spicy, acidic, food and I’ve never had problems with Mexican food in general. The salsa verde(green salsa) separated as soon as I mixed it up and so the top layer was just straight up vinegar, so disgusting.

Man, I gotta tell you, I was so stoked for this place initially. We drove by the sign and the California-native in me screamed MEXICANFOODLETSGOLETSGO. But we walked into this somewhat deserted restaurant and was not even greeted by anyone but with a frown. WHatever, no big just serve me good food and all will be good. But the food wasn’t good. It was plentiful, that’s for sure. The junior fajita burrito was bigger than my two forearms combined. But it was just greasy and fatty — and not in a good way. It was strange — it was like they threw in everything that would have been good in a burrito, but it just didn’t yield a good result!

First of all the food is not good. If you want Mexican food, you can do better at just about anywhere else. Even Taco Bell is better, and Taco Bell is an insult to Mexican food. Second, I bought a gift card here, and the gift card never worked. They refused to give me a refund, so I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company to get my money back.

The food tastes good but… Wait until the next day! Don’t leave home without a few depends. Because you will need will need the depends, wipes, new clothes and a shower the next day… We came here for dinner. It was really good but the next day my husband & I were out shopping and both of us were in the toilet for a good ½ an hour. I know I did not make it to the bathroom. I soiled my pants, the toilet, my stomach, the sink, my coat, new jeans, and sweatshirt. Hot lava was coming out my butt. And it was shooting out like a vocano errupting! And still were in Chicago! I thought maybe the food came from south of the border! I think we will not be eating mexican food in a very long time. Maybe Never!

Don’t quite understand why there are so many terrible reviews. I get chicken burritos and chicken tortas here, very tasty, good green salsa, 24 hours, and there is a freaking drive-thru. It isn’t gourmet, but it’s totally passable normal Chicago Mexican food made to order and pretty darn tasty to boot. I have to admit, I drive an extra few miles once in a while just because I don’t feel like getting out of the car and dealing with being in a restaurant after midnite etc. Love this place!

This place is TERRIBLE! First off the cooks were bussing tables with no gloves and continuing back to the kitchen to cook and touch all the food AGAINWITHNOGLOVES… we started with chips and salsa. There salsa was horrible very bland. And too spicey with no other flavors.(we should have left then) we Ordered 2 chicken tacos and carne asada dinner… Lets start with the tacos… the lettuce and the cheese were cool lol. but the chicken was some dam canned chicken!!! reheated garbage! I felt like i was eating a nasty fish taco with chicken cubes in it!!! Hot garbage it was terrible… me and my boyfriend took one bite and was like NOPE. We also the carne asada. My boyfriend specifically asked for it to be medium. The cashier or so called«manager» completely ignored that request… instead he left it on the grill for a long time… when he put the plate up it looked like a burnt piece of petrified gyro meat… We sent it back right away saying how un edible it was… The second round was still well done but we decided to try it… HORRIBLEONCEAGAIN… there was a strong after taste which we couldnt figure out what it taste like. so at that point i went up and got our money back… which the manager hesitantly gave me back without an apology or anything. very unprofessional… Moral of the story this is a sad excuse for a restaurant… do yourself a favor save time and money. well and the risk of food poisoning food poisoning and stay away!!!

Insomnia had me up so decided to have breakfast. @5am no ones here(not that I expected ppl to be) 2 employees. The customer service folks mention is lacking, sometimes can be due to how busy they try and get orders in… This wasn’t the case-no ones here so why wouldn’t you serve well? Maybe I expect to much? So the cashier wasn’t to helpful… and I expected that when the food was finished cooking he bring it over to where I sat(ate in) he yelled for me to come and get my plate. and had to ask for hot sauce I went with chilaquilas(spelling?) and a Horchata. Horchata tasted ok @ 1st but then got grainy. The meal tasted pretty good how can u go wrong with cheese melting on everything? Idk if I come back here, maybe @ the last min decision but not making a trip intentionally.

I’ve been to this location many times. For Mexican, I think its pretty expensive even though they give generous portions. I brought a friend here not too long ago and she had a hair in her food. I went back a few weeks later and everything was A-ok, however, this past week when I went back, I got a hair in my food. Once is a fluke, twice is disgusting. The owners should have their employees wearing gloves and hairnets. Please avoid this place.

The food is amazing but the service is shitty. I see people getting charged for a refill on drinks while others are not, I also waited in the drive thru for 30 mins one time just for horchata.

Stay away from here! When my wife and I first walked in, we noticed how busy they were. One of the employees was just finishiing cleaning up a table. He was also the same guy taking the orders at the cash register and handling the money. He was also the same guy mixing up a bucket of cheese with his bare hands. YUCK!!! We should have bailed out right there. None of the workers wore gloves handling and preparing the food. Needless to say, we were both very sick all night. They should be closed down by the Department of Health!

About a 2 – 2.5: Taco Burrito King seems to be a rival of Burrito House. My cousins swear by TBK, so we went there to grab some lunch. The menu offers burritos, quesadillas, nachos, tortas, tostadas, tamales, and even a breakfast option. I tried their Super King Burrito, which was a flour tortilla filled with beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, shredded cheese, hot sauce, and your choice of meat(I opted for the carne asada)) — while the burrito was definitely filled extra with the fillings, I wasn’t a fan of the lettuce, the sour cream, and the shredded cheese within the burrito; the diced tomatoes made everything really wet and soggy, and the hot sauce could have been left up to the consumer, as putting it inside the burrito wipes out your choice of adding more or less! I wasn’t a fan of the carne asada, either, as the meat was very tough(even for me!), and it was just not tasty with the lack of marinade/seasoning. The place was somewhat packed, and I see how some may enjoy the food as it was generous in size. I’m glad I was able to give TBK a try, but will not be back! On a side note, parking is a little tight in the shared lot. +wet burritos T___T

Love that is 24 – 7 restaurant. Food is usually fresh good and fast. The drive up closes at 4:00 am. Which I was disappointed after waiting a few minutes to notice I had to go inside to place my order.

If you want food that’s cheap, come here. If you want food that’s cheap and delicious, SKIPIT. I’m all for divey late night restaurants as long as the food tastes good. The steak burrito I ordered looked not so good and tasted not so good. The fries with cheese was gross and hard to finish. I went there again another night, seeing if it was just a fluke, but the second time did not change my mind about the place. There must be some good late night Mexican food place somewhere nearby.

Decent Mexican food at very reasonable prices. We especially like their taquitos(they are HUGE!), their tortas, and my husband likes their burritos, which are also huge.(They have different sizes). You cam also order tacos a la carte or as a dinner. Their dinners come with rice and beans, which are only average, but their guacamole is very good! They always have a special advertised on the sign outside, for good value. They do most of their business on the weekends, and more drive thru than in the dining room, which doesn’t have much ambiance, yet does the trick if you do want to eat in. For our family, it’s fine. They’re 24 hours, too, which is super convenient. Chips are very good, and their salsa varies(sometimes the hot seems mild or the mild seems hot!) Yet we were told that it’s made fresh daily, and it can vary. Yet it’s always tasty. They have a full bar, which is nice. You can go just for a drink or have drinks with dinner. Great tasting horchata too! They make killer margaritas, so whenever we dine in, we’re sure to order those. On our last visit we chatted with the owner’s son-in-law, Jeremy, who was very friendly and explained a lot about the business to us. He was aware of the negative reviews and even shared some of the complaints he received, and from what we saw they are a nice, family owned business with hard workers. It’s not upscale, but when we want decent Mexican at lower prices, this is our go-to place.

TLDR: AVOIDTHISLOCATION. DIRTYTABLES, ANDLIKELYDIRTYFOODHANDLING. Came here when my girlfriend and I had a craving for ta is, and had a decent experience at other TBK locations. But as soon as we walked in we already regretted it. This location is decently sized, having around 10 to 12 tables. Almost all of them were dirty. Not filthy, but they clearly hadn’t been wiped down. The place only had one party occupying a table and no one, not the 3 cooks lounging around in the back or the lazy cashier did anything to make the place look clean, not even after we ordered and said we would be eating in there. And on top of it all, we got the runs and that never happens to us, even if we eat at Taco Bell.

I’d avoid this place like the plague. No food is worth getting sick over. Their unsanitary handling practices are easy to see behind the counter and all too easy to ignore. Don’t eat here. This is the one and only place I’ve ever gotten food poisoning from. Need I say more?
