Mayhugh’s Store

It’s HARD to find a general store in NOVA anymore. I live 3 farms down so I come in whenever I forget something at Wegmans. I LOVE Mayhugh’s!!! I ran in there in my wedding gown to grab red bull to see me through my big day, was comforted with a big hug and kind words as I sobbed while gassing up on the day my dad died, and Tyrone recognizes me coming through the parking lot every time, even if it’s been months since I’ve come in. I’ve never had better service anywhere. The smoke, the older guys clustered around the coffee pot in the mornings and the willingness to gossip about the neighbors are all apart of the charm and adds stars to my rating haha. I hate cigarette smoke but it’s rare that I’m subjected to it. If some older guy can still smoke in HIS store, then by God, I’m still in America! It sure isn’t keeping me away :-)

This is the #1 Mayhugh’s country store.
The sign had me at Fishing Supplies & Country Ham. yes and if you stop in right now you will score some fresh Northern Neck Oysters; get a pint for $ 16 bucks.
It has a Nokesville address but it’s in the Greenwich community. It’s a rural area now & not too far south into PW County, NoVa sprawl is moving in
These stores remind me of the local ‘one stop shops’ I grew up around in rural NC. They offer a nice selection of general merchandise plus you can gas up your ride, restock your fishing gear & check out the country hams!

Oh, Neal! I have to rate this 5 stars! They are so close to us, and are so convenient. Not to mention, the man that’s sitting behind the counter is the owner and is so sweet! Yeah, it is smoky… but I think it’s awesome that a mom-​and-​pop joint in the middle of nowhere can do whatever they want and still get business. :) If I need a gallon of gas for my lawn mower, I go here… even though the outside pumps don’t take credit cards! So, five stars for the best customer service ever!

Normally, little Country General Stores/​Convenience Stores are pretty favorably reviewed by me — I like the ambiance of them and what they represent.
However, this one is like walking into an ash tray. I stopped here this afteroon for a soda and to look around and check the place out. There was an employee doing a check or inventory when I walked in — and he was smoking a cigarette. The whole place absolutely reeked of it.
I grabbed a Caffeine free Diet Coke, paid for it as quickly as I could and got out of there. To his credit — the smoker cashier was friendly — but the place just smelled so bad!
