What did I think about what is now called«Simply Thai?» I think you shouldn’t use black pepper in green curry…

Just got back from Royal Thai. I suspect that the ownership may have changed again as I did not recognize any of the staff. The food served was not even Thai. The vegetables were fresh but the sauce seemed like watered down chicken soup.

Had not been in for a few years, but had a chance to catch lunch today. Was as good as we remembered. We had the Mussaman curry with chicken, and the panang with pork, both excellent, for $ 8.25 each.

Went today for lunch and discovered that the new name is Simple Thai and they are closed for remodeling. According to a sign on door it will re-open the«end of June»; from the amount of work going on that must be June 2012. I gave it 3 stars based completely on other reviews. If there is new ownership then I suggest reviewers go back to square one.

As a native Atlantan, Royal Thai is THE best Thai restaurant in Georgia. Even though the menu is limited compared to other Thai restaurants, if you want a good, tasty, authentic Thai food, go to Royal Thai. The staff is wonderful. The interior decorating is cozy and beautiful. My favorite dish has to be drunken noodles

3.5 stars. My coworker told me about Royal Thai, so I dropped by to grab a lunch to go. I tried the Jade(green) curry($ 9.50) with medium spiciness. Oh my goodness, I should’ve gone with mild. I usually like spicy food, but I was sweating at my desk eating the green curry. I couldn’t finish my meal because it had too much kick to it. The green curry was good, but I think next time I’ll try their pad see ew($ 8.95) or drunken noodle($ 9.95) dishes.

This is by far the best Thai food in Atlanta, and I have eaten at many Thai restaurants. The wonton soup is the best you will ever put in your mouth. The flavor is unsurpassed. If you want something really good try the tea roses. Once you try one you will not be able to stop. The cook who is the mother pays particular attention to each curry she makes. Try the red and green curries. Some of my favorites. The staff is all family, very personable, and goes to great detail to make sure that you are well taken care of during your meal.

Went here when I was visiting Norcross. The food was below average. Everything from the pad thai to the curries were just ok. They were edible but far from tasty. They did not have any dessert other than ice cream. Service was just ok. The lady wanted us to write our phone number on the bill because she said something was wrong with her credit card machine which was really weird. Anyways, probably the only time I will ever go here.

I too think this place is under rated because of capitalism. After bowling at Brunswick, partner n crime and I were hungry, but did not know the area. After GPSing local restaurants, this was a decision based on luck – there were no reviews, just nearby destinations. I was a bit apprehensive seeing the location, but as soon I walked in, I hoped the food was as every bit as good as their décor. I ordered one of their specials – Thai Steak – yes, yes, yes. This was mouth watering gimmie some now good. Oh, that char! The veggies were fresh and considering the cut of them, someone has superb knife skills. The owners were pleasant and their suggestions were not based on potential sales but on taste. Looking forward to my next experience so I can get the duck, but jeez, that steak… can I lick the plate?

I felt this place deserves to be pulled up a star, because it’s suffered some pretty bitter criticism in here, thusfar… The lunch is pretty big portions, and is going to be a couple bucks more than most places, which is why I usually have dinner here, rather than lunch, unless I’m feeling up for Thai food for both lunch and dinner. Appetizer: The basil rolls are nice & fresh, with the shrimp inside having a nice crunch, rather than being the hermetically-sealed hi-bounce balls you find at other places. The basil was present without being so overly-strewn into the filling as to overpower the flavors of everything else, too. The Tom Yum soup definitely would benefit from some additional lemon grass, as it’s not got the zing I’ve had at other Thai restaurants in the area; soup in Asian restaurants is usually hit-or-miss, in my experience, with every place having off-days with the quality, so I probably need to go back & try it some more, to see if this was an anomaly, or a trend. Entrée: I usually order the cashew chicken, or the red curry with beef. I’m not sure about accusations of the food being bland here; I’m one of the most consummate chile-heads you’ll ever meet, so I typically place my orders for ‘Thai-spicy’ in the hopes of getting something with any decent degree of heat. I did that my first trip here, on the beef curry… Folks, I’ve been to Thai restaurants & dives from here to L. A, to Seattle & back, and this is the hottest Thai curry I’ve ever had, and not by a small margin, but by a slam-dunk. There’s something supremely wimpy about asking for something Thai-spicy, and then wussing out & sending it back because it’s hot(duh), so I dove in & toughed it out, but I think I did nerve damage with that meal; my lips burned for twenty minutes afterward. LOL! I’ve since learned to order the spicy dishes as they come from the menu, and there’s — for me — a good level of heat(for someone not super chile-friendly, read order two Thai iced teas) when I don’t try to be a hero. Bland, this food is not. Atmosphere: This is a mom & pop restaurant, so don’t expect to find kitchy, trendy or artsy. The place could be lit a bit better as well, but I mostly have them on my list of places to go when I’m looking for a capsaicin fix.

First impression upon walking in at midday is that the place is dark and in need of more light. The lunch menu ranges $ 7.95 to $ 9.95 and includes a choice of soap or egg roll. I wanted Pud Thai but that was under the dinner menu, not the lunch menu not sure why. I choose the Mango Chicken instead. The accompanying soup was the Thai chicken soup with coconut milk. The soup was watery and it lacked the normally wonderful zing that lime leaves and lemongrass add to this soup — verdict, disappointing. My Mango Chicken plate came with rice, but again, what should have been a tangy mango sauce ended up being a overly sweet sauce, like you find in cheep Chinese restaurants. It was so sweet that it overpowered the dish and I pushed it away. Add pieces of chicken that were tough and well this dish is a definite failure. For this I paid $ 10. Not a good experience.

I’ve been here a couple times for lunch and tried the pad thai and pad see ew. The food taste decent if a little bland. The accompanying tom ka soup was actually a bit too sour. As well, the tons of broccoli that came with the pad see ew were slightly undercooked. The lunch portions are too big, in my opinion. Whereas other thai restos in the vicinity offer $ 7~$ 10 lunch options, here they charge $ 9~13 for similar dishes of humongous portions.(i.e. money goes to more food, not better food) I want to like this place – it’s family-run and authentic. The food is not bad. It just fails to enchant me. And I am not paying $ 12 for more pad thai than I can finish.

Cheese rolls, coconut soup, basil rolls… all so good! I love Thai food and Royal Thai Cuisine has been around for years(at least since 1990) because that’s when I first started going here. So I decided that it had been a while and I needed to go back to my roots… and it was everything I hoped and prayed it would be. The portions are huge. Their crab dish is really tasty. The décor is cute and like any other Thai restaurant, and the service was nice and personal. The menu consists of dishes you would find at many Thai places, but the flavors are a bit different. I found the dishes to be more fragrant at Royal. Give it a try! You won’t regret it.
