Impressive! If you’re looking for fancy ambiance or beautifully prepared sushi rolls, then Sushi Yoko might not be your place. But, the fish is fresh, the lunch special is good, and extremely filling for the price. $ 7.50 gets you salad, miso soup, cali roll and 5 pieces of sashimi! I added a spicy tuna roll to it and left stuffed for under $ 15. I’ll be back to try the hot food now and the noodles since a lot of people post good reviews for that. The service is extremely friendly and everyone smiles. I’m glad I can walk here from work.

Only visited for Lunch. I like their lunch, very reasonable and great amount of food. Sushi looks unprofessional, but nothing wrong with taste. They sale Bento at TOMATO Japanese Grocery Store, and it is good too!

Ok been wanting to test the ramen here for some time now and decided today was the day. I brought my mom with me around lunch time and saw the parking lot was pretty full which sometimes is a good sign. They are doing construction however but upon walking down the hallway just really smelled weird for some reason. The hostess was very nice and seated us quickly. Glancing over the menu you I suggested my mom get the katsu curry and I decided to go with the yasai akaki ramen(there was really no description for the ramen). I asked the waitress about the broth of the ramen and she said it was a ham broth, which caught me totally off guard as a lover of ramen I hadn’t heard of a ham broth. We also ordered sushi and the accompanying salad and miso soup came out quickly along with free green tea. The ginger dressing for the salad is very good probably the best I’ve had. Finally the food comes out and I’m totally taken aback with the look of the ramen. It was not at all what I expected it was more gelatinous than brothy and was missing the things I live in ramen(half boiled egg). There was only one piece of chasu and some cabbage, carrots, and some bamboo shoots. Right off the bat it basically had no taste to it and the chasu was also lacking in flavor. I managed to get 2 bites and couldn’t go on eating it. My mom’s curry was delicious tho and we both ate that. I explained to the waitress that I wasn’t happy with the ramen and she basically smiled and said yea it’s a texture thing and that was it, didn’t ask if I wanted to switch or send it back just a smile. Safe to say I may be back to try the regular ramen and eat the curry but no more experimental eating for a while for me.

Don’t let the unassuming exterior fool you, this place has the genuine article. Delicious, actual Japanese sushi! Menu plentiful with choices sure to tempt. We spend a ton when we come here, because Irma that good, but you don’t have to.

This place is Amazing!!! Walking in, you have to walk down this hallway to the front door inside which is just like the best dive sushi bars in Japan. The decore inside is pretty authentic and not overly Japanese like most sushi places. The sushi and sashimi pieces are very generous and super fresh. I ordered the chefs choice 11 pieces and one roll which was to die for! This place is probably the best sushi I’ve ever had in the states! The restaurant is kind of off the beaten path but totally worth it! I’ll definitely be going back!

My bf came here based upon a recommendation from his colleague and he specifically recommended their katsu curry and described it as a mom-and-pop type place. When you arrive, you have to walk through a hallway before actually in front of the restaurant door, which is an unusual set up for us hahas. We were immediately seated during their weekend lunch hour. My bf, of course, ordered the katsu curry while I ordered the katsudon. There was a tv showing a Japanese channel. We got hot tea, and shortly after a simple lettuce and tomato salad with house dressing and a bowl of miso soup. The dressing is the same as you’d expect from most Japanese restaurants — a balanced mix of gingery, slightly sweet and tangy flavors. The plate and bowl came shortly after. My bf first noticed that the katsu in the katsu curry was definitely on the thin side, but also that the appearance of the curry was a deep brown color that is distinctively like the kinds from the curry restaurants in Japan. The katsu is not unlike the type found in most«Japanese» restaurants in the US — thin, and a little light on flavor. To its credit, it was moderately juicy. The curry, on the other hand, was absolutely delicious. Slightly sweet but deeply savory. It has a satisfying thickness and richness, and as a bonus it also had chunks of small cubed beef in it. If the katsu was better, this would be a flawless dish according to my bf. The katsudon arrived in a traditional Japanese bowl with a lid that looked surprisingly small. Despite the size, it contained enough katsu, sauce, and onion to fill us up. The onions gave a lot of sweetness and the egg was nice and silky, as you’d expect from good katsudon. Towards the end of his meal, my bf found a small piece of what appeared to be plastic wrap in the curry. We told our waitress about it, and she said she would consult the manager about it. When she returned she asked if he would like to have another one made, but we were too full to accept it. In the end, we were only charged for the katsudon. This was the only quality control issue during our visit, but the staff were apologetic about it. If we go back again, we would get the katsudon again.

Food was fresh. I really enjoyed coming here. I was always curious driving past this place. Service was polite, food came out quickly.

If you’re like me and think that hole in the wall kind of places are good, then you’re right! This place looks kind of raggedy on the outside and when you’re parking, you kind of question yourself, do I really wanna take my date/gf here but the truth is, everything in here is so fresh and inexpensive!!! The salmon nigiri is fresh and has a buttery taste to it! Beef teriyaki and sushi combo is awesome! Customer service is excellent! Ok I’m going back to eating the rest of the dinner!

I use to come here alot, and still do if I’m in the area. I give it high marks for the fresh sushi, great prices for lunch and it’s authenticity of how their food is prepared(owned and operated by a Japanese family). I had the ramen this time, and my husband had a combo with tempura and chicken teriyaki. All good. The teriyaki is not syrupy sticky sweet and the tempura was perfect(crunchy, hot and not greasy). Lunches comes with salad(combo comes with miso soup too). Dressing is a perfectly light ginger dressing(the way it should be). In the past I would usually get sashimi and tempura. It was always consistently good. It continues to be a great little«hole in the wall», still with great lunch prices. I trust coming here for sushi. It’s the real deal. Reminds me of the«hole in the wall places» I use to go to in Los Angeles’ Japanese Town at a third of the price. Our lunches including a 20% tip was only 20.00! I prefer good fresh, quality authentic Japanese food over Décor anytime.

After a multiple-year hiatus, I revisited Sushi Yoko for a weekend lunch. The menu is rather expansive and has sushi, noodles, curries, and other Japanese fare. The sushi is always fresh, and there are pretty cheap lunch deals to be had such as the sushi lunch combo for around $ 7.50. I ordered a few extras since the lunch wasn’t super filling so you may want to do that. Or go to the Tomato grocery next door to pick up some snacks after your meal. The service seemed less attentive and warm as I remembered. We were stuck in the corner on this particular visit which probably didn’t help either. The servers weren’t unfriendly but didn’t seem thrilled to be waiting tables. The booths are extra small sized too. Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars but I’ll round up for sentimental reasons.

A decent place. Definitely not the best Japanese tho. We came here for lunch and ordered their lunch specials. I had the chicken and beef teriyaki and it came with a side of salad and soup. Portions were bigger than expected. And the beef and chicken teriyaki tasted OK. Beef was a bit dry. My husband got their curry rice and that was OK. This place seem a bit dirty tho. Feels like the whole place was very old and outdated with sticky walls and sticky tables. And the carpet was very old and smelled funky. Overall, not a bad place when you are craving for Japanese, just don’t care too much about the funky smell and the sticky tables

I used to be one of the regulars here for sushi, but just ended up forgetting about this place for a while. After I got sick of my usual sushi place, I started going back here and A) was surprised that this place still existed and that it looked exactly the same as 6 years go B) the food still satisfied my taste buds. This place offers variety of Japanese dishes, in just the right amount of portions. You can eat rice dishes on the days that you’re not craving raw fish or indulge. Also, I can’t remember the last time I went to a Japanese restaurant where I actually liked their ginger salad dressing. Afterwards, make a visit to the grocery store next door, Tomatoes, to find Japanese snacks.

My family have been coming here for years now, but not so much lately. I love their katsu curry, and their lunch combo is worth the price. Compare to other sushi bars, this place is very cheap. Over the years, I have noticed the portion is shrinking, and service got slower. One time, I received my food after my family finished theirs. The decoration is nothing impressive either.

This review is for the lunch special only. I don’t typically associate«fresh fish» with«hole in the wall,» but here we are at Sushi Yoko. Once you’ve navigated the interesting building, you’re seated at what I assume is a Japanese person’s impression of what a westerner thinks a Japanese restaurant ought to look like. Our service was pretty good. Don’t even bother looking at the menu. Most of it is in Japanese and the rest is confusing. Jut order the Sushi Lunch. $ 7.50 for salad, miso soup, California roll, and about 5 pieces of nigiri of various, very fresh fish/seafood critters.

Downgrading from 4-stars to 1. Disappointing experience. After 15 years of eating here, I came for lunch and had a nasty hair right in the nigiri. Showed it to the waitress and asked her to take it to the chef, she said she would, but instead she had a whispered conversation with another waitress, then threw the sushi away and offered to give me a refund. Never even approached the chef, who was oblivious. I think it’s important that the chef sees this kind of stuff, otherwise how can they improve? I wouldn’t be leaving a bad review if not for the bad way they handled it. I guess I’ll be eating sushi elsewhere from now on…

Nice and prompt service. Homey and cozy atmosphere. Curry rice was pretty nice and yummy. Price was pretty reasonable as well. This will be the place that I would like to go regularly for my casual lunch and dinner. :9 PS: Tomato(a Japanese store) is right next door.

I think this place is just average. It may really be a hit or miss kind of thing, since so many other reviewers seem to LOVE their food. It’s in a convenient location and not too expensive, that’s all. There’s not really anything here that’s very special, nothing that I would ever crave. Their sushi menu is very short and not the freshest or tastiest. I enjoyed the ikura and spicy tuna which was more than average spicy. I’ve gotten a few other lunch dishes here but nothing really memorable. The environment is kind of comfortable/old. The service is attentive but I did have one slightly awkward experience — I ordered hot tea and got room temperature tea. I told the waitress and she said, okay just wait and they’ll make hot tea again in a little bit and I’ll give you another one then. I didn’t get why I had to wait 10 minutes. There’s a small Japanese shop next door which has some interesting home goods and foods and is fun to look through.

I have seen this sushi place time and time again driving up 141, but never actually got off the exit to check it out. The sushi is amazingly cheap, and pretty fresh for what you’re paying. I got a sushi combo for 12.50, which came with soup and salad. There’s not much else for me to say other than that. I may come again in the future for their hot foods, since the pictures other Unilocalers posted look amazing!

This is definitely a hole in the wall. You pass by the large Sushi Yoko sign driving down Peachtree Industrial but it’s hard to find its exact location right by the Burger King. The inside is a little dark and there’s a musty smell. I’ve been here in the past but for this particular visit we ordered the special eel roll, spicy salmon roll, maguro oroshi, hamachi kama and the ramen. What can I say, I was really hungry. I thought both of the rolls were a little rice heavy and poorly assembled. The spicy salmon roll almost fell apart when I tried picking it up. I do, however, like that they put a thin layer of wasabi in it. It definitely gives it that kick in your nostrils. If I had known the«special» in special eel roll was just imitation crab meet I probably would have gone for just the eel nigiri. At $ 16 for the 6 pieces of sushi, it really wasn’t worth it. The oroshi was basically tuna sashimi over a big pile of grated radish. If you like radish, this is a great palette cleanser. But if you like stronger flavors this wouldn’t be your best option. Hamachi kama is always my favorite — yellow tail chin meat. A little lemon juice really brings out the grilled flavor and the meat itself is just so tender. Finally, the ramen. It wasn’t my favorite. I prefer the creamy pork bone broth kind and I think this one was just soy based. The noodles were cooked nicely but they only give you one slice of chasyu. Overall, this place is decent. I’ve had their katsu curry in the past and it’s not too heavily breaded and doesn’t leave a greasy taste in your mouth. The udon noodles are also super tasty if you like a thicker noodle.
