Unique shop — roasts their own beans on location. Friendly owners and the cappuccino, AMAZING! Would return. Full review coming soon on my blog,

Nice ambience, friendly staff. We tried a concoction of a chocolate ice cream scoop with double shot espresso … Bellissimo!

Bought some whole bean coffee. Really good stuff… fresh roasted, produced a good espresso at home – better than some other«fresh roasted coffee» i bought from a different store. Macchiato I had in the store was mediocre at best. Lots of big bubbles aren’t ideal in espresso milk…

Pulled up at the front of the store at 6:57am to find someone opening the store and putting out the tables promptly at 7am. aLatte is a cute café with eclectic furniture, décor, and plants. Service was friendly and the environment in general was very welcoming and relaxed. I enjoyed my green tea latte with almond milk, which was $ 0.50 extra. In addition to coffee and tea, they serve breakfast(sandwiches, bagels, waffles, pastries), lunch(sandwiches and salads), and ice cream. If it wasn’t 7 o’clock in the morning, I would have had a scoop or two of Hershey’s ice cream!

Great coffee shop. I am not usually a flavored latte person, but they have some unique ones. I love the widows peak. Atmosphere is fun and laid back. Staff is friendly. Location is good. I wish they had weekend hours. But, I understand b/c they have such a small staff. If you’re around Norfolk during the work-week, you’ve got to try a latte.

I visit independent coffee shops all over the country… and this one really stands out. Melissa and her husband really love coffee and making your drink the best. The atmosphere here is very relaxed. It’s a large space, with ample seating, high ceilings, eclectic décor, and large windows at the front of the shop. They have an interest in giraffes, and hockey(specifically the minor league team in town). The service is personal and knowledgable. The location is in the revitalized area of downtown, within walking distance of places to eat, shop, and get educated. They technically have a few outdoor seats, but are constrained by the vintage nature of their architecture and the presence of the sidewalk and street from having more. I took home a bag of their roasted beans, and it was really a good batch of coffee. This is the kind of shop where I would hang here regularly if I lived in the area… reading, knitting, talking, drinking coffee. I will be back next time I am in town!

Cute and cozy coffee shop, nice place to have in downtown Norfolk. Wish they were open later. Haven’t had their coffee yet, but I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and it was good. Service was fast and friendly. Glad I could get a breakfast sandwich at any time. I’ll be back to try their coffee and will update.

We’re back for our biannual follow up with our sons surgeon at CHKD and as usual this place delivers as a perfect 10! Can’t say enough about this little coffee shop! Yummy and inviting all balled into one place! What more could a person ask for!

This is my favorite coffee shop. The staff are very friendly, and they have excellent coffee! What I uniquely like about this café is the environment. I usually sit and study for a couple hours a week. The best!

I’m not sure if I stand corrected or if things have changed. I’ve been here a few times recently and I’ve dug the experiences. The first time I re-dipped my toe back into the water, I ordered a simple & plain black coffee. Because, imagine this, I’ve reviewed a coffee shop without ever tasting the basic offering-coffee! I’d had the lattes and been unimpressed. This time, I got a coffee. And, I did something else differently. I sat in the shop for a few hours to drink it. The coffee, to me, was too strong and almost bitter. My mother and a friend of mine would’ve LOVED it, but it wasn’t my thing. I’m a delicate flower, dammit! Five packs of sugar and two hours later and I was still working on that cup. *sigh* However, I got sooooo much work done. The coffee did what it was supposed to do. The people that work here(and that were sitting around) were pleasant. I left with a sour mouth and a sweet disposition. That was kinda great. Of course, I had to make time for another visit. So, another visit happened. Different people behind the register; same pleasant disposition. Friendly, even. On Granby St. Less crowded than my fav c-shop over by ODU. If they added liquor to the menu here… O. o… I digress. I tried a different coffee. They offer two. This one was more my style. I could even taste the hint of citrus. I’m never able to pick out those subtle notes in the coffee descriptions. But, I did this time. My guess, since my taste buds are rock stars and NEVER fail(a bit of sarcasm, but mostly true ;)), is that these people know what the hell they’re doing with coffee! Anyway, this cup was special and popped my coffee-tasting-cherry. I, also, ordered a «Rosie» latte. I did NOT make that up! They have a latte called«Rosie.» see, they know. ;) And, it’s flavored with pistachio and rose. WTF?! I LOVE those flavors! So, they must’ve researched me and named it after me. No, not the owner’s pet dog. Yes, I know people have pets named Rosie. It was named after me, dammit! ANYWAY(I’m rolling my eyes at you for thinking it’s about anything but me), it wasfan-friggin-tastic! It was so good that it knocked me out of a review-writing rut. Two coffee drinks down in 1 hour. O. o Thank you, Jessica P., for suggesting that I revisit this place. I owe you a cuppa joe!

I’ve been here a few times now, and really enjoy it each time. My favorite part is the décor, there’s always something to look at. Each piece is apparently there for a specific reason, too; you should ask about the bicycle painting and the map. The drinks have all been great. The latest I had was the«healthier» smoothie… It was ok, but was so packed with protein I felt like that was the main flavor, and a bit hard to get through. Otherwise I’ve enjoyed their coffee and lattes. I tried their internet for Skype once, and it was pretty low quality. So don’t expect much from it. Just another one of the cool local places I’m glad I visited!

After a 3 yr absence, it was so nice to return here for a blended vanilla coffee & just enjoy the ambiance all around. It’s relaxing & has so much local art all around to enjoy. The staff is super friendly & there is a nice collection of giraffes throughout the café. Great place to catch up with friends over coffee.

aLatté Café, you are awesome. A coffee shop big enough where I don’t need headphones to jam to Spotify? Heck yeah! I mean, seriously, the best feature while sitting at the corner window watching people walk up and down the street while cars are making illegal u-turns every 10 minutes. Ditto, ditto, ditto from my previous review. It’s as home of a feel as home. Oh, by the way, mocha frap for the win.

Love this place! So I just moved here and live in the metro building. I saw the good reviews, decided to take a look. First off the décor is amazing very urban funky contemporary style. There are a lot of giraffe decorations everywhere– the owner? Told me it’s because people found out his wife loves giraffes so they bring stuff in. I love them too so this was good by me! The food was wonderful, the coffee was great! I’ll be back a few times a week :)

Cute coffee shop. It was nice and spacious. I loved the décor! The prices are reasonable. They don’t offer any military discount just FYI.

I’m from out of town and aLatte Café is a perfect spot to do work. The charming spot is a community watering hole with it’s free wifi, good food and great coffee. Quite possibly the only place to get fresh fruit in Norfolk, VA, the café also offers a house salad for less than $ 4. Can’t beat it. The service is extremely friendly and the music selection is sometimes great but at it’s worst, passable. Thank GOD for aLatte Café.

I am a coffee addict, I make no bones about it. Here lately I have been expanding my horizons to try small locally owned shops. This coffee house was not on my radar one bit. However, by using my Unilocal search engine I wanted to see what may have escaped me. Sure enough a four star locally owned shop did. I most often do not look at other reviews before writing my own, but I did take a peak to at least see who wrote the reviews and I get it fellow Unilocal elitist, I hear you loud and clear. A solid 4 stars and could not agree more. Parking is off the street, it a pain, you have to pay and it’s expensive for downtown Norfolk parking. No pay and a ticket will be delivered to your car, guarantee, the parking Nazi swarm like buzzards. Also pay parking lot is just to North. Locating a space was not an issue late am on a weekday. However, I can imagine it being more difficult on a rush. Many of there customers are on foot I noticed. To me this does not appear to be a huge hardship on their core customers. The sidewalks and entry to the business were sparkling clean. The exterior windows sparkling clean too. I loved, loved, loved the fact that it has the original tile name of «Goldmans» in the doorway area. The display windows are nicely utilized. This was at one time a shoe/retail shop. That brings back great memories of shopping downtown with my Dad for shoes in a storefront very similar. Once inside I felt quickly at home. High ceilings with drop lighting, a mixture of concrete and tile flooring, plenty of art work on the walls makes it a cozy place to enjoy. Disappointing that the ceiling was not exposed to rafters, but it would be a big cost to heat and cool. Also the layout of furniture is quite unique and broken up into sections. Two large round wooden table serves as a group study etc. However I could not locate a power source to plug in close, maybe missed it. The coffee counter is to your right and runs most of the wall. Restrooms are in the very rear. I ordered a large White Chocolate Mocha from the bar from a young man who was friendly. The bakery items looked appealing and I asked him if made in house, or where they came from. He failed to be able to tell me which was disappointing. I decided with it being late AM to only get a coffee cake and not a meal. Price around $ 6. I took the opportunity to look around the shop while waiting on my mocha. Many of the pieces of art are for sale and some books and games are also for purchase. Something unique to their shop is Hershey’s Ice-cream. Hershey’s is not a top choice for most, but a reasonable one for the owner. The fact they offer it is a plus. A call of my name and my huge mocha was served with a smile from the owner Melissa. It looked visually awesome and I could not wait to sit down and sipped on my way to find a chair. It bar none was one of the best mocha’s I’ve ever had and I’ve had a few. The coffee cake was good, not great and seemed a little dry for me. I need to get back and try a hot menu item. Before departing I checked out there space in the back where they do small batch roasting. The area was clean and neat. I hit the restroom which was a few feet away too! I found it nice size, clean and no issues with plenty of soap and towels. The toilet bowl appeared to have permanent long yellow stains that was nice so appealing. An easy fix for a hundred buck to replace the stool. I hope my excitement of aLatte shows through this review. I really liked them and will check them out again soon.

This is probably one of the most unique coffee shop I’ve ever visited. The moment you enter the premises, you can feel the relaxing and homey vibes. Its quite a bit disorganized but I actually love the way it is. The hanging arts & crafts are very thoughtful. I admire people who tried to helped an local artists to showcase their artwort. The entire setting of this place is very charming. The table and chair and couches are creatively well done. Books and magazines are also available too. You can relax and chill here the whole day as long as you order. I strongly believe its also an ideal spot for a group class study. I am not too crazy with the food and beverages selection. However, for a coffee shop they actually offer a wide variety of sandwiches, smoothies, ice cream and coffee. For my visit today, I ordered the wildberry smoothie and Turkey club sandwich. Thought it was simple and average. Nothing spectacular with the dish but seasoned well. This place is definitely a great spot to chill and I certainly will come back.

The espresso/ice cream drink is VERY good. I have had it with vanilla and salted caramel ice cream. Would highly recommend both. The place has a homey feel and makes you want to sit down to get into some good conversation.
