I’ve been to Granny’s on numerous occasions in the last year. So I’ll say this: I discovered this place right before they started to boom and they started changing everything. Back when they didn’t have much of a bar and it was just a clear glass at the front counter instead of the beautiful brick they have now. I LOVED this restaurant. I thought it would be a great date place or lunch place, etc. as the food was to die for, the portion sizes were pretty good, the staff was friendly, the prices were cheap, and the dining area was beautifully simply decorated. NOW: I’m disappointed. I don’t know if they changed the cook or the recipe but recently me & a friend went there and the food was just all wrong. I’m deeply saddened to report:-(The service is slipping and so is the food. The staff members were friendly enough but just awkward(no warm, genuine feeling) My friend ordered her usual Jerk Chicken and I tried something new; pulled Turkey w/mac n cheese and yams. I usually order the Salisbury steak but I was adventurous today. Mistake! CLEANLINESS: As usual the restaurant was clean, but seemed a little packed and our table needed to be wiped down… we waited a whole 10 minutes later before finally just asking them for a rag. Smh CUSTOMERSERVICE: Like I said, the service was good, just a little awkward, and definitely not great. MENU: I love how they’ve re-vamped their menus, adding some new delectable looking choices. Very appealing! FOOD: The food was just plain ol’ NOTGOOD! Although my friend got 4 big wings, she could only stand to eat 1 ½ of them before opting to just not eat at all. I tried one & I couldn’t either! It was nasty and tasted like the cheap Caribbean sauce from Dollartree. Then after a few bites of our Mac n cheese, it was clear to us that they changed the food recipes. Maybe to newcomers, they wouldn’t know the difference but we’ve been here on numerous occasions and WECANTELLTHEDIFFERENCE. The pulled pork was not that great either. Flavorful but a little dry and they literally drizzled 1 Tablespoon of sauce over it. I found myself trying to guzzle my TOOSWEETSUGARBOWLSWEETTEA. And the rice… WHATRICE??? With 3 table spoonfuls of rice and gravy, they should have just denied me it in the first place. Lol Not to mention, I probably will always get my food in a to-go box from now on because my sides were NOT overflowing like the pics below. I received a lot of pork but miniscule scoops of side dishes. 5 bites and it was gone. The yams were Good. No complaints and I actually think the cornbread was best thing out of all. SMH Maybe, we caught them on a bad day… Either way, we just may stay away for now. I took my food home and this is the FIRSTTIME that I’ve taken soul food home and NOTWANTEDTOEATIT; however, starvation kicked in so I forced a few more bites and tossed the rest. Where oh where did Granny go? Please bring her back.:-(

I know there’s always room for improvement but I can’t find anything to improve at this time. From start to finish I have always had an awesome experience here. Great and friendly staff, GREAT food, reasonable prices, very nice atmosphere. If you’re ever close by it is a must that you give them a try you will not be disappointed!

This ace is somewhat of a hidden gem. The food is always good and never over priced. The bar part of the restaurant is a bit sketchy, but the drinks are cheap and goes great with the food so it works. The only con is that they close too early. I understand the struggle of staying open at night, but that food is great for dinner and I would love to consider them a Togo place for dinner. I was planning on taking a picture of my meatloaf I ordered however, it was too good and I are it a bit too quickly!

Came by to support Norfolk’s Build a Better Block & my friend Chester. The staff, Crystal, was so attentive! I ordered the liver & gizzards. I never had gravy on top of fried chicken livers before but, they were sooooo good. Also the first time I’ve had them on top of rice. Wow! Gizzards were chewy and real crunchy but, well seasoned! No need for hot sauce! Restrooms were nice & clean! Def a hidden gem! Great specials at the bar until 8PM.

My boy, Chester, lives down the street from this establishment and he took me here after showing me his new spot, The Wheelist. Granny’s is located on 35th St, which is in the Park Pace section of Norfolk. This portion of Norfolk, for a long time, was an area you didn’t want to hang out too long(or too often) as its streets were full of shady activity. Thanks to residents like Chester, Park Place is going through a revitalization and the maxim of staying away from here is quickly being eliminated. Granny’s is a spot that helps to enforce this area’s renaissance, and they’re doing it with some good food. Granny’s is a small spot — when you walk in the kitchen’s in front of you. They serve a la carte and it’s a good mix of southern and country cookin’. There is a lounge/bar area(which wouldn’t look out of place at the Town Center in Pembroke) with plenty of televisions and a full bar. We came in on a Sunday evening, so there was plenty of football to be seen. My friends got the wings, which I believe were $ 0.50 apiece, so you can order as many or as little as you desire. I went for the baked chicken, which came with rice and two sides. It was a hearty meal since it was covered in gravy and I ordered French fries and mac ‘n’ cheese to accompany it. Granny’s has a homey feel to it, accentuated by their friendly staff. There is a chill vibe throughout, which anyone can appreciate, although I foresee some friendly arguments between clashing NFL fans(the entire staff was wearing gear to support their favorite teams). Granny is back in the kitchen(definitely not an imaginary title) but she’s running things both in the front and back. Say hi to her if she doesn’t get a chance to greet you first because I believe it’s well-deserved to compliment a place that has a good balance of delicious food and timely service. Better Block is happening on November 8th and 9th, so this spot could be one of the event’s highlights. Head over and check it out if you’re so inclined. But if you can’t make it then then check out Granny’s sometime soon if you want to try(or enjoy again) some good home cookin’. JV

Awesome food and great service. It was as if I was sitting in my own granny’s kitchen. BBQ was perfectly seasoned, the greens were delicious and the catfish was fresh. Can’t wait to come back!

If you are looking for a cook meal look no further then granny’s, I have had nothing bad on their menu but my fav are the liver n onion and beef ribs, BBQ chicken. They have some of the best sides, collard greens, Mac n cheese, potato salad and cabbage just to name a few are outstanding. This is great place to eat and the price is great also. PS if they ask if you want cornbread or roll, do yourself a favor say cornbread, it’ s delicious

Wow my newest secret .If you like Collards, Mac and cheese Yams etc etc and try 2 crab cakes 2 sides and corn bread for 7.99. The catfish The beef liver chicken gizzards chicken livers turkey legs et etc is all good. I keep trying to get a bad meal but can’t. The only disappointment is if you do a pickup for dinner they may have run out of some items. Reasonable Southern Home style country food at its best and reasonable. meals range from 5.99 to 10.99. This is to go food.
