Rowena’s

Wife and I stopped in here for a tour of Rowena’s in May of 2015. You have to call ahead to take the tour but talked to Missy who said it would be no problem. We arrived at 10am on a Thursday when they were baking. The short tour took about 15 – 20 minutes and we were shown the entire operation. Rowena’s has been in Norfolk for over thirty years and sells cakes, drizzles, jams. At the end of the tour we were given samples of the various cakes and their specialty jam, the carrot jam.
We bought small almond, coconut and the lemon cake. Wanted to buy a bottle of the carrot jam (wildly good and different!) but did not think the TSA would let us take it on the plane back to Michigan. The cakes were delicious! Moist, sugary and wonderful. After reading a few of the posts here I was a bit hesitant to buy but glad we did. The bakery has gone back to the original recipes of the founder, Rowena and the cakes were fantastic.
If you like history of these small American bakeries I suggest you go to Rowena’s and take the tour. They might be moving locations soon so if you want to see where it all started go soon. And try the carrot jam! We had a blast.

Such a nice treat. I love the zucchini bread and carrot jam! Best things to take when you’re in need of a hostess gift!

The best cakes and service — been using them for years and they deliver quality every time.

I ordered two cakes in the shape of a heart for a valentine’s day gift, and it’s Feb 15^th, and they’re still not here. Very sad.
It was 44 dollars! Including 15 dollars for shipping. I got an ad from them in January in my inbox, and placed my order early, even.
Will update this with how the company responds.
For now — take your business somewhere else when you really need the gift to arrive on time.

Absolutely Rowena’s! Hubby & I send them as gifts coast to coast! Only had an issue once and it was quickly corrected w/​a personal apology to the receiver!
Still use them today. Getting ready to send a «Just Wanted You To Try Rowena’s» gift out to KC!
