Stopped in for an afternoon beer. There is an upstairs with darts, games and two small pool tables with a bar upstairs. First floor had a big bar with lots of tables for seating large groups of friends. I did not eat so I cannot provide information on the food but there was a party of at least fifteen all eating and the food looked good. Why three stars? They hand wash the glasses and the soap effects the taste of the beer. I watched the bar tender get a dirty glass, dip it in soap, then dip in standing water with soap then mix a drink in the glass. Did not second wash with clean water or dry. I would like to see a professional establishment use a dishwasher to clean their drink glasses. You know, hot water of over 160 degrees. Germs, drinking after strangers, drinks are not free. Lots of wait staff, Saturday afternoon and no one working the upstairs bar, had to go downstairs get the drink and bring it upstairs. Little issues effecting the overall star rating of what is a nice bar. However, competition is strong and management needs to make adjustments.

Waited 25 minutes to order drinks, waited an hour for our food that came out wrong, waitress(Alex) was not attentive. The restaurant was pretty much empty.

Fist impressions were good, upon walking in. Fun atmosphere. When we found seats at the bar though; there were broken plates and food on the floor. Bartender was VERY overwhelmed. The bar wasn’t wrapped; and the people that were there, mostly looked to be drinking. We ordered cheese curds– came out ice cold. They had obviously sat in the window for quite some time. We were hungry– so we ate them anyway without complaint. I had the fried green tomatoes, hubs had the tap burger. Burger was okay– nothing special. His fries were cold as well. My tomatoes were lacking. Very bland, even with the blue cheese and balsamic. We would only return for a few beers, if we even did.

This bar used to be AJ Gators, I was sad when they took it away, but this place is a good replacement. When you first walk in, right in front of you is a bar with great local selections. We were greeted promptly, the bartender was very nice and helped us pick out a beer, we both ordered the raspberry stout from Hardywood(This beer is amazing!). The lady ordered Fried Pickles, which were good, not too soggy, and seasoned OK which were our appetizer. I ordered the Coconut Shrimp, which weren’t too«coconutty»(surprisingly I don’t like coconut) but these were great, and the shrimp were nice and plump. These nice big plump shrimp also starred in the Shrimp and Grits she ordered which she said were pretty good. It was loaded with little baby shrimp. Shrimp on Shrimp, you can’t mess that up! I can see this being one our bar crawl spots, keep it up!

This place seems set up for failure. The beers and food are all upstairs which means that the poor guy behind the bar has to run upstairs to grab your order. They have a large beer selection and none of it is within reach. Secondly, I’m not confident the bartender has tended bar before. He didn’t ask for drink orders, we had to beg him to take them and he didn’t bring our food orders together. There’s another bartender working but he’s been at the end of the bat chatting with his buddy the whole time. As far as the food; my she crab soup was OK. Not award winning. What will be in this space next?

Wasn’t overly impressed. Walked in and stood there for 5 minutes as both bartenders and a Waitress looked at us like we had an arm coming out of head. Once we took a booth out server was slow, couldn’t recommend a good beer from the beer menu which is fairly ample. Took her 10 minutes to bring drinks when there was maybe 25 people in the place most of whom were sitting at the bar with plenty of wait staff to take care of the 5 other tables. Food was ok but nothing special, fried pickles were soggy, cheese curds came out in one large piece and had to be broken apart. When I asked for my check, i received the initial check that was mine, after she ran my card I saw that it was for the table next to me for 35 dollars more then my bill. It then took an additional 10 minutes just to get someone to get the checks fixed. If you’re looking for a place to grab a few beers before heading to the NORVA or an event at the park next to Nauticus then this is a good place to check out but if you want dinner, I’d go elsewhere.

Great selection of beer! The bartender was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the beer. The menu looked great and I look forward to returning to eat! I had the coffee stout, which was dark and heavy with a very strong coffee taste, the perfect dessert beer! We also tried the citrus ale, which was very floral and quite full of citrus without the hops, which made me very happy! It was very light and hit the spot. We ordered the the 5oz size, which is quite small, but it does save you from getting a large beer of something you don’t particularly like, but feel obligated to drink. Great little local spot!

Great place for a good beer and burger. Norfolk is becoming a great destination for brew pubs.

Gave this place a quick try with a friend. It was a weekday afternoon, so we were almost the only people in the bar. The beer was good and our bartender was very friendly. The food wasn’t great, but I didn’t expect much as it’s more of a beer place.

This place is great. Downstairs is the more traditional bar area and it’s really spacious. Right on Granby so you’re in the heart of everything. This place is great for the weekends, and even the weekday with a few friends. Upstairs houses the entertainment area and that’s where Tap It really stands out. Beer pong table, cards against humanity, life size Jenga, pool tables, darts, etc. EXCELLENT for groups and the drink prices are really reasonable. The staff is awesome and really accommodate you. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a lowkey time with big fun potential.

To start with, when we walked in no one greeted us although all of the staff turned to stare at us including a man who we were told was the owner. We were sat and ordered. Fyi, they do not serve ribeyes. There is one on the menu, a 14 Oz bourbon glazed ribeye. However, what was sent out, twice, was a NY strip. It’s a $ 25 entrée and they are banking on you not knowing what the steak should look like. I ordered a burger, medium rare with cheddar and extra of it. It came put medium well and covered in American cheese. Which I can’t stand. Our waiter was great, I felt awful for him being forced to bring that out to us. It’s a shame when the owner is right there and does nothing even when he knows that the meal went poorly. This place will not last at this rate… we won’t be back.

Slow service, waitress seemed confused. Food is weird(alfredo nachos). Food was lukewarm. I think if your main goal is to drink beer, you will be fine but don’t go for the food or fast service.

This brand new brew pub was an accidental, but fortunate find, while I was walking around downtown Norfolk looking for food and drink. Have no fear, they have plenty of both. The new owner and chef, Chris, told me his goal is focus as much as possible on local sourcing for the entire bar and restaurant. This includes the menu of food selections to the numerous local or other VA brews on tap to even the the receipt paper, which I think is awesome! I settled in here much longer than I anticipated, completely enjoying the tasty brews, delicious wings and Saturday afternoon football on their numerous flat screens. If the downstairs is not enough for you, venture up to the second floor to have some fun with the life-size Jenga set, pool or beer pong. Yeah, it’s pretty awesome! So, if you’re gonna tap it, Tap It Local.
