Seems like most of the reviews are from people/families who have been coming to this place for quite some time. I guess I’ll be one of the few who isn’t a local! I think this place is amazing. I come to Sooner Dairy at least once a week after a long day of class at OU. The restaurant is a drive-in, Sonic-esque type of place but I would definitely choose Sooner Dairy over Classic 50’s Drive In down on Lindsey. The owner is a friendly guy and I love having conversations with him while I wait for my food. I don’t know what they put in their burgers but man they are delicious! Did I mention that they’re pretty cheap as well? Around $ 7 for a burger and fries, sure beats McDonalds! Not to mention the ingredients are fresh. Every bite into a burger began with the most satisfying crunch of onions and lettuce. Then your teeth sink into the patty and the flavors just pour into your mouth. Upon chewing, the flavors get mixed into an extravaganza of happiness. This is a simple place that doesn’t try any gimmicks. It’s simple, and it works.

One of the best kept secrets in Norman. Great food at very reasonable prices.

Ahhhh yes. Sooner Dairy Lunch! I can’t say enough good about this place! It has been quite some time since I have eaten here as I no longer am living in the city of Norman, however, for 12 long years this was my favorite burger joint in the town I called home. I loved that I could call in my order, then walk up to the window and pay, and be handed over a delicious bag of yum! No wait time?! What!!! The burgers are amazing. Cooked to order! You can toast your buns! Add veggies of choice. And the fries… well you must taste them. They cut the potatoes right there on site! Need something sweet?! Might I suggest a shake or a malt. Both are absolutely delicious! Their shakes give other Oklahoma based ice cream companies a run for their money. But their malts… they blow every other malt I have ever had out of the water. Is there anything else on the menu? Well I’m not really sure. This is all I have ever had! I have literally ordered exactly the same thing at least 100 times. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it! 4 stars and not 5ONLY because when I went there, they did not accept credit cards. I mean my first visit was in 2001… my lay in 2013… and it’s definitely worth writing out a check or pulling money out of an ATM. Someone on my friend feed just checked in here and it flung a craving on me something fierce! I’ll be driving down soon to grab a bite here! If, at that time, they accept credit cards, I’ll be changing this to a 5 star review because the place is legit!

A long time staple of Norman, somehow I only needed up going here during my last week at OU. My mom is from norman and grew up walking here for lunch during junior high and high school. She said so many kids would show up they used to have a burger on the menu called«ready-mades,» a cooler full of ready made burgers ready to hand out to the kids when they showed up with their lunch money. Ahh nostalgia, you just can’t beat it. No ready mades these days, just simple delicious dive burgers. The place looks like a drive-in but you have to get out of your car and walk up to order. The menu is much lengthier than I expected. Burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, shakes, etc. I kept it simple and went with a small burger with everything and a small side of sweet potatoes(an off the menu must). Both portions were small but so satisfying and didn’t leave me feeling like I had a greasy burger just chilling in my stomach. Sooner Dairy reminds me of the Top Notch Drive-in from Dazed and Confused. You are instantly transported into the 70’s. If only I had a souped up convertible to pull up in. Sooner Diary-stay you and don’t ever change.

Just tried this place for the first time today and I was very pleased. I ordered the large cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger was a thinner patty, which I like on a burger, and all the toppings were crisp and fresh. The fries were nothing too special but good fries. My husband added a peanut butter milkshake to his meal and thought it was delicious! I tasted it and thought it was pretty good too. Good consistency; not too thick and not too thin. They had many other flavors too. It took about ten minutes or less before our order was ready and the employees were very friendly.

Old fashioned small town burger joint, rich in local history and a darn good burger. Thin not thick, and great onion rings too. This place stands the test of time — their original menus with hot dogs listed for 15 cents are in the back. In my opinion this is Oklahoma’s In-n-Out. Just as good. My very first stop each time I come to town.

I’ll be the first to admit, there is a sense of nostalgia when I write this review. My family has been coming here for a long time, literally decades. I’ve been here with grandparents and parents, aunts and uncles, and I’ll take my son someday. But, that’s not coloring what I think of the food. While this may be a Norman institution, and hold lots of good memories for me, it’s also a place to get a damn fine burger and fries(or, of you’re me, tater tots). I typically get the large cheeseburger. I like their patties because they are on the thinner side. That’s not to say you don’t get a lot of meat, because you do. The veggies are crisp, and the burger is fresh. Also, they are great at getting the little edges crispy, which I love about thin burgers cooked on the flat top. The tater tots and fries aren’t fancy and they get a good crisp on them. Again, just good quality ingredients. While I typically get a Dr. Pepper, I also really like their limeades. I know others go for their freezes. Obviously, the hotter the day in Oklahoma, the better this stuff tastes. Be advised, cash only. Also, you can call your order in, but I find it doesn’t take terribly long when you order at the restaurant. Get your food, eat at home or in your car, and enjoy. It’s a classic, no frills burger joint. We need more places like Sooner Dairy Lunch.

Okay so maybe I should’ve just stayed in the hotdog realm. I ordered their chili cheese dog, butterfinger shake & chicken salad sandwich. 1. The sandwich was full of a Miracle whip taste with big chunks of pickles in it. I simply don’t care for wet, beyond mayo taste sandwiches. Wish I could’ve finished. 2. The shake was very loose as if they added a smidge too much milk. 3. The chili dog could’ve used a bit more spice for the chili, but it hit the spot. Still on the rocks if I want to return. P. S. thought I was gonna have a kiniption with all the dang flies hanging out around the building plus outside.

This is the best«traditional» burger & fries joint in Norman! It reminds me of Frank ‘s Drive– In in Broken Arrow. Not fancy but good food. Get out, order at the window, and eat in your car or truck, or sit outside at picnic table. My hamburger was with basic lettuce, onion, pickle & mustard just the way I like it. Fries were golden brown, crisp & just enough salt for your heart to cry«no mas, no mas!».

Best burger in Norman, in my opinion. You have to go for lunch but this place is inexpensive and has been reliable and delicious for years. My grandparents use to call in their orders and go pick them up. My grandpa had a stroke and the gentleman on the phone always knew who he was and would get his order correct.

this is as institutional as it gets in norman! my grandmother and grandfather used to take me here for lunch every weekend when i was a kid cause both my parents were working and it was always the highlight of my weekend. i have ordered the same thing for as long as i can remember. large cheeseburger with everything(mayo instead of mustard), order of tots, and a dr pepper freeze. the freezes are the best part and perfect for the summer heat. family owned and operated, once you become a regular they will remember you by name and probably remember your usual order for you too! the best time to hit this place up? on gameday of course!

Probably the best place in Norman to get a quick cheap burger. Their BBQ sandwiches aren’t too bad either. Fries tend to be a little overcooked for my taste. Cash only, and their prices seem a bit high as there is no combo option.(~$ 7 for large burger, limeade, and fries). However, it is nice to support the local community and not a franchisee. Closed on Sundays and Mondays.
