Came in with my dog to find out if they were dog friendly. They are not, which is very common in Norman. Anyways, the staff went above and beyond for me. They set me up on their little front«patio» and served me breakfast. Even though, they don’t provide service outside. All the staff was unbelievably helpful and polite. Definitely my new breakfast spot

This place is excellent! I travel all around the U.S. and this is right up there with one of my favorites! I usually get the Huevos Rancheros and a short stack of pancakes, that may be a little more food than the average person likes to eat, but it’s just right for me! And the coffee, I love it! There are currently 2 types of coffee, the«house» and the«Peruvian», I like them both, but the Peruvian is my favorite! If you get here after 9:30, you’ll have to wait for a little while, but they send you a text when your table is ready, and you can also look online to see where you are in line!

Food is great… service, not so much. Only been twice, but both times we watched other people get their food who sat down after us. Staff is always very apologetic, but I’d prefer to have my food rather than an apology.

What we ordered: it was a weekday noon, we have order a French toast and a plain waffle with apple and sausage. It is a bit disappoint for my apple waffles since it is a bit too plain compare with the pictures. The French toast is special, by sticked some corn flakes on top. Time: brunch Person: 2 people, walk in without waiting Staff: Very Nice and polite Price: Not cheap Will return or not: maybe

Syrup is a great place for breakfast and brunch. Entrees are family appropriate and not expensive. Cute décor and subdued color. The staff is cheerful and attentive but not annoying. My only dissatisfaction with the place is how noisy it is. Maybe a strip of framed carpet on one of the long hard walls would help with deadening the cacophony.

Summary: Not worth the wait. Food is your basic breakfast. Price is slightly high for the portion size you receive. The place is cute but small, and the ambience is cool with the college hipster vibe. The service was ok. I have been here twice, each time during the weekend around noonish with a total party of 4. 1st visit: Sunday 2nd visit: Saturday Parking can be limited as the resto is on the main street going one way. Projected Wait Time: 45mins to 1hr(avg). The wait system is convenient. Cell phone number will be asked and they will text you when your table is ready. Both visits, the host was nice, sweet, and helpful. 1st visit: Host said 40min wait; took about 45mins to be seated. 2nd visit: Host said 1hr wait, took 30mins to be seated. Restaurant Size: Overall small, with not a lot of space for seating for people waiting. The front gets crowded as the coffee barista section is up front also. The main dining area is in the back after you walk pass the small hallway area where the coffee ordering section is located. The back dining area opens wider where there are about 10 dining tables and where majority of the decorations are located. Chairs are metal so they can get uncomfortable after a while. Silverware and napkins are bundled together in the middle of the table in a can for yourself to distribute. 1st visit: Silverware and napkins were prepared. Additional silverware was needed for a table with 4 chairs. 2nd visit: Silverware and napkins had to be requested after the food was served. Food/Drinks: I was told by a local that Syrup is known to have real good coffee. I am not a coffee connoisseur, but I figured to give it a try. Syrup serves Stumptown Coffee, originally from Portland, Oregon. I ordered the regular filtered coffee, but I did not notice anything special about it. However, the mugs are cute — simple, wide, solid weight and size, with just the restaurant name printed in font. Menu is small with just one page, front and back. You can order«Waffles & Pancakes» a la carte, «House Specialties,» or «Brunch/Lunch Options.» There is also a «Munchkin Munchies» section for the children, but there are only 2 options to choose from. 1st visit’s order:(Note: Syrup ran out of sausage, so we had no choice but to have bacon with our meals.) Breakfast Sliders — 3 mini pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. You can make these at home. Nompton with Cinnamon Roll Pancakes — Slight upcharge to change the pancakes from regular, powdered sugar pancakes to one of their specialty pancakes, but definitely exciting to give you the option. The cinnamon roll pancakes were good at size, a medium size plate at round, and I think you get 3. The pancakes had a layer of icing over them and were sweet just like cinnamon rolls. The bacon was thin and greasy; a disappointment especially when we had no other option for meat. 2nd visit’s order: Crunchy French Toast — 4 half triangles to make 2 whole squares, chunks of strawberries, not a lot of powdered sugar. You can taste the cornflakes more than the french toast, so it was more of a cornflake toast. If there was more powdered sugar, it may have helped this dish. Eggs Benedict with Sausage and Skillet Potatoes — 2 English muffin stacks with 2 poached eggs. No upcharge for changing the side from fruit to the potatoes, so I enjoy Syrup’s flexibility with its menu. The sausage come in ground beef, crumble form which was not bad for the preparation. The avocado is a very nice addition to this meal however, the poached eggs were overcooked. I think egg yolk and Hollandaise sauce makes or breaks Eggs Benedict, so to have overcooked poached eggs were a disappointment. The Skillet Potatoes were square cut, maybe more baked potatoes. No seasoning or anything, so I had to add salt/pepper and ketchup. Service(both visits): Overall, ok. Nice, attentive, and accommodating in the beginning. Once the food is served, we were asked how it was after a few minutes, and never saw the waiter after that. Personal water mason jars were only filled when asked. 2nd visit: As mentioned earlier, silverware and napkins had to be requested after the food was served. Multiple condiments were asked at separate occasions on accident, so we were very thankful for our waiter’s patience. Restaurant Name: You would think this resto would have something special about its syrup based on its name, but there isn’t. The syrup with all meals come in a small pouring cup on the side. It seems like your regular maple syrup from the grocery store. Maybe different syrup flavors can help this resto offer more and attract customers to return. The resto’s background was very warming as it started with a great cause and has a vision that is great for the town.

Super cute! The food was good! My friend and I both got the same things. Chai Tea Latte, Crunchy French Toast with a side of bacon. We were seated, But people that were seated after us with MORE people than us for their food about 15 minutes before us which made me kind of upset. And my latte was spilled. Not to mention the French toast was very chewy and mine was burnt. BUT overall everything was really good and I’m glad I was able to come here while in town. :) would recommend!

I’ve had Syrup samples at Taste of Norman the last couple years, but I’m always in OKC on weekend so I’ve never been. I was house sitting, so perfect opportunity! I was doing solo, so I went at 8, hoping to beat the brunch crowd. This place is super small(like ten tables?) and I didn’t want to take a whole table for too long because I’m nice like that. Let’s just say when I left around 8:30, there was about 5 tables worth waiting. Super cute boutique. Rustic décor, with lots of wood and metal. Hipster coffee bar, hipster servers in regular clothes but super nice! My service was great, especially for someone dining alone during at a very busy breakfast spot. I ordered the cinnamon pancakes. These things are literally from heaven. It’s like a cinnamon roll, but a pancakes?! My mind can’t comprehend. All topped with icing. Holy yum. I only ate half, they are huge and very sweet. I also tried the biscuit and house made gravy. Not a fan. The biscuit was good but the gravy tasted like lawry’s and old bay. I was hoping for a fresh ground peppery gravy. But that’s ok, the pancakes made up for it. I’ll def be back to try everything on the menu lol

Not worth the wait. I came here a few weekends back for brunch and was disappointed. The reviews were good and the vibe/décor was completely on point for what felt like it was going to be the perfect brunch experience. Firstly I will say that they have a good system for their wait list. They take down your number and text you when your table is ready. That said our wait was about an hour for a two person table. A wait alone doesn’t bother me but, the food was really just mediocre. We had the huevos rancheros and nompton. For the prices the portion sizes were small and for a restaurant called syrup I would expect more interesting syrup.(Maybe they could offer different varieties of syrup or have a very unique house syrup? Just brainstorming on how they could make this place better!) They brew Stumptown Coffee. Which is good but, I think they’re missing an opportunity to brew locally roasted coffee. Overall for a place thats atmosphere screams unique the coffee and food left me wanting for something more.

Great breakfast/brunch spot! Serving up yummy coffee & espresso drinks alongside a menu designed for the pancake/waffle lover! Hard for a gluten-free diner but the fruit bowl or huevos rancheros is an option. Great space and location in the heart of Norman’s revitalized downtown.

I have tried Syrup numerous times, each hoping it would get better. I really like the concept behind their mission, but it isn’t enough to keep me coming back. The food is mediocre and a little pricey, especially for the small portion sizes. The main issue, aside from the above stated, is the service. The service is TERRIBLE. I understand waiting to be seated, for food, etc. when an establishment is busy. However at Syrup it doesn’t matter the business flow the service is slow, every time I’ve been there my order is wrong or something is left off. If you are expecting a refill on your beverage, forget about it. I really want to love this place, but I work too hard for my money to be spent here on food. There are plenty other organizations I would much rather support than one that treats me as if I’m the least of their worry.

This place is good don’t get me wrong it’s just that the employees could use a little bit better management. Just a bunch of kids running the place and they are super slow. When my food came I had to wait ten minutes to get a fork! And another ten minutes to get my coffee refilled. Also the pancakes could use a little bit more time on the grill. Been here three times and all three times they were just so slow walking around with there heads cut off. IHOP has better syrup then this place.

Reasonably priced, great tasting breakfast items. We enjoyed their version of sliders. Check it out. Service was friendly, it was end of day so it took a little long for food. Would definitely return.

Syrup is just so syrupy sweet. It shouts ‘calling all Norman hipsters! Enjoy our pancakes, one word name, mason jars, exposed lighting, plaid covered waiters and wood paneled wall!’ All joking aside, this place is adorable. The people are friendly, the atmosphere is vibing current, and the food is delicious. My only complaint is I wish there were more healthy options on the menu besides a yogurt parfait or ordering a side of fruit and eggs. I occasionally am into a heavy breakfast, usually for dinner, but most of the time would rather start off my day lite.

I think this place is way too overrated. It’s one of the few«trendy» restaurants in Norman so it’s a hit for the college crowd. However, the food is mediocre and overpriced for what it is. I’ve only been here twice but both times, I left disappointed. I ordered the Plain Jane Pancakes the first time and it was alright – nothing special about it. The syrup was not even real maple syrup. It is just from a normal syrup bottle that you can buy from Walmart that they poured into a tiny syrup pitcher. So, for a restaurant that is literally named ‘syrup’, this is such a let down. The second time I came in(for lunch), I ordered the half sandwich. Again, there was nothing special about it. My 14 yo. sister can do better. Though, I must compliment the décor of this place. It’s really nice – very tumblr worthy. The atmosphere is great but it gets pretty busy. Sometimes the wait time for a table is very long.

The first time I went syrup I didnt have a good experience. The food is isnt anything special, and the coffee is too expensive. I decided to give it a second chance just in case I just went on a bad day, if anything it’s gotten worse. I could tell my food had been sitting for awhile because it was cold, on top of that it didn’t even taste good. The service was fine, nothing special. I won’t be going back, it’s overpriced for the quality. I think the only reason people like it is because of the trendy atmosphere

This place is my favorite breakfast joint in Norman. I drive here from yukon some mornings just for their plain Jane pancakes with cinnamon sugar on top. The service is hit or miss but the food is always spot on. Tip: come in the early mornings specifically right when they open for they’re not too busy but around 8 or 9 they start getting packed.

Ate at Syrup once. The 1st time I tried there was a 45 minute wait on a Saturday morning, so that was a pretty good indicator that the food was going to be good. I chose not to wait and visited another time. The place isn’t very big and it’s a pretty open setting. The food was indeed good and the service was very nice, I would recommend Syrup as a great choice to eat.

We enjoyed our breakfast here this morning. Make sure to get there early on a Saturday there is a line. We shared their corn flake encrusted french toast and their juevos rancheos. We thought their coffee was okay, we would probably not sit and drink it all day. The Juevos were good, but other places do them better. It was obvious that they use fresh black beans etc. Nice quality. The french toast was awesome. I ordered the sugar on the side, and I would recommend it. They were already tasty and sweet and the sugar would have over done it. The service was great and friendly. A good breakfast experience.

So the food is top notch. You must try the corn flake coated French toast or the sweet potato pancakes. OMG! And the coffee is for real delicious coffee, like stout and flavorful. Service isn’t bad, but sometimes seems… aloof? Like super good and attentive service maybe isn’t cool?

They think they are cute. They are trying to be like a eatery from the northwest. A boutique style. It always has huge lines outside on the weekends. But being someone who has lived in the PACnorthwest; you have failed Syrup. Miserably. Your meals are no more than a frozen overpriced microwaveable meal that one buys at the grocery to heat and eat in a rush on the way out the door or lonely in front of the TV. Your portions are small. Too small. No grown man will feel full off of your plates. And I can, and do, make better breakfast meals at home. You want good food, go to PDX. Go to Scrambled. Your taste buds and your stomach will thank me later. Pass on the syrup this time.

You know when you really want to like something, yet you keep getting disappointed? This has been my relationship with Syrup. The people are so nice, their message/mission is encouraging, but there is always ‘something.’ Whether my(almost $ 5) latte be lukewarm, we’re constantly asking for things(not enough utensils on table, no pepper), etc. Today I went back for another try with my whole family. The food was great, but again… disappointed. We just felt bad because we were constantly having to ask for things(no half and half served with coffee, nor even asked), the bananas on my pancake were way overripe/mushy, and my sister was served her food late and after we had almost eaten half of ours. Again, I love this place and the food is usually very good. But I wish I wasn’t so disappointed! Hoping this review helps in some way. They haven’t lost my business yet.

If you’ve never had sweet potato pancakes in your life… you HAVE to have them. It’s the most perfect, delicious, sweet-tooth craving thing ever. Seriously. If you want a hearty breakfast, such as the Nompton,(my favorite – their potatoes are amazing.) you can upgrade your pancakes to sweet potato pancakes. Their menu doesn’t say that, but the waitress didn’t act like it was a big deal, so hey! EATALLTHESWEETPOTATOPANCAKES.

During the last major storm in Norman, we were without power for almost 24 hours so my mom and I decided to go out for breakfast. We wanted to try something new, so we decided on syrup. We came on a Thursday morning at about 11 am, and it was super busy. They told us the wait would be 20 — 25 minutes and they put us on an electronic waitlist. We got to see how far we were on the list using their site and were sent a text when our table was ready, which we thought was really cool. Every business should start doing that! The ambiance of this place is very hip, from the bright yellow tufted booths, to the fresh flowers placed on every table. I got fresh orange juice and the eggs benedict with a side of pancakes and my mom got the stuffed frittata with a side of potatoes and endless drip. My mom said her coffee was of great quality and her frittata came out piping hot. The eggs benedict was good, but it was completely cold so that’s why I knocked off a star. I probably would have enjoyed it more had it come out hot like my mom’s. Their pancakes are pretty good. They’re more cakey than fluffy and they taste strongly of vanilla.

I love syrup. the restaurant and the condiment. this is such a good place for downtown Norman. the place is exceptionally good. good in so many ways: the food. let’s talk about the morning glory. WOW. that’s a breakfast for ya. eggs, bacon or sausage and cheese piled nice and high on sweet and soft waffles. YESPLEASE. the service. super friendly people. a sign in the restaurant reads: «bless the people, bless the city». they are intentional and genuine. this shows. the interior. so cute and fun. this place gets packed and loud, so that’s a little disheartening when you can’t hear your friend sitting next to you, but it’s worth it. lots of college kids because, well, you’re in a college town. the wait. the restaurant stays packed Saturdays. I came around 11am and waited about 30 minutes for a table for 4. however, the awesome part about it is that you can give the host your cell phone number and they will text you when your table is ready, meaning you’re free to peruse the shops along Main as you wait. what a deal.

Went here a few times. I enjoy the coffee. The food is hit or miss, depending on what you order. The service is also spotty. The quality in both seems to have steadily declined with each passing visit. Like most«hip» places in Norman, the people and surroundings seem to be trying too hard, like they really want to be urban, but it’s Norman, so yeah nah, not gonna happen.

This place is really good, but it leaves me wanting more… more meat and more food. But it’s nice to find a breakfast place that finds flavor in things other than grease. Atmosphere: 5 stars This is a trendy little breakfast place that’s not a greasy spoon. It’s decorated with a modern feel, and has a very open dining area. It’s concrete floor, and metal furniture makes the restaurant rather loud, but it’s small enough that it’s not too overwhelming. Menu: 3 stars I don’t like a lot of carbs and sugar for breakfast(causes blood sugar issues for me), so I have a hard time finding something here that I like. It’s a limited menu, and they focus on what they are good at. Waffles are their thing(and quite good), but they also have pancakes(sweet potato and buttermilk), sweet and savory add-ons to customize them, a small selection of lunch type items like salads and sandwiches, and quality coffee. They also have some scones, gluten-free pancakes, fruit and yogurt. Food: 5 stars Their waffles are stellar! The syrup is real syrup… not sugar water or something that comes from a plastic bottle molded like a woman. But most things are heavy on the sugar and carbs. I got the Morning Glory(Waffle topped with eggs, bacon or sausage, and cheddar — $ 8) the first time I went so I could get more protein. I didn’t really care for the meat and eggs on waffles, but it was the only way to get meat. I did appreciate they used Tillamock cheddar and not plastic-type cheese. The components alone were great! The 2nd time I went I had the Stuffed Frittata(omelet with bacon, cheddar, onions, peppers and potatoes — $ 8). This dish made more sense to me and tasted a lot better together, but was so tiny. My husband is a coffee snob and really enjoyed their Stumptown coffee. I can’t remember if he did french press or American style. But they offer coffee several different ways. Overall the food is made with high quality ingredients and attention to detail. The flavors are wonderful. The portions are pretty small. I did leave hungry both times I went, especially when I got the frittata. Price: 3 stars A tad on the pricy side considering the portions and ingredients that are used to make the dishes. The coffee seemed expensive to me too, but I can’t remember what the prices are like at something equivalent like Elemental. $ 6 for french press seems high though. For a $ 10 – 13 breakfast($ 8 dish, plus tax, tip, and maybe a drink), I expect to leave satisfied and not wanting a 2nd plate. Overall: 4 stars This is definitely a place you go for a light brunch, and not a place for a big brunch to hold you over until dinner. And if you are diabetic or sensitive to blood sugar problems, you will likely need to plan ahead. It’s doable, but you might be jealous of the person sitting next to you with a plate of waffles loaded up with delicious syrup! But the food itself is delicious and of high quality!

Coffee: Stumptown. Yeah, bit o’Portlandia! My latte was very good. Cozy little place. Go– and go early– when you want pancakes, duh. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived at 8:30am; it was full, with guests waiting for tables, by 9:30am despite streets blocked off for the Norman Music Festival. Syrup’s pancakes hit the spot for us. My son’s «Plain Jane» was a 5 stack, which he paired with a thick caramel sauce and devoured in record time. The waiter kindly made me aware that half stacks are available, for those who want a lighter breakfast. I found the sweet potato pancakes light and moist, though I skipped the marshmallow fluff and opted for maple syrup instead. The bacon was flavorful and great for hangovers– just enough bacony deliciousness– neither too crispy nor too soft. Bonus: gluten-free menu available with plenty of pancake options. Should you desire maple syrup, ask for it. I didn’t have an extra charge on my receipt, but I did see a special note for the kitchen that I had requested maple syrup. While this was a bit of a surprise considering the restaurant’s name, it makes sense that Syrup wants to keep costs low and reserve liquid gold for those who want it badly enough to ask for it. Our waiter was courteous and accommodating. We had a couple of special requests, a bunch of questions, and returned our poached eggs. Throughout it all, he kept his cool, efficient demeanor. Softer footed chairs– so they don’t screech when moved– would improve the acoustics, as would sound dampening curtains or rugs. Otherwise, the space is quite pleasant. We’ll make the drive again, when we want pancakes and I’d rather not cook them myself. Neat treat.
