Nearly missed out because it’s so poorly rated. But most of the complaints I saw were about customer service and high spice level, so we took a chance and we were not disappointed. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. I have a high tolerance for spice, and hate bland Americanized Indian food. We ordered medium spicy and it was perfect — they even served the food with chilis and yogurt so that you could control the spice level as you ate. The service was good, not great, but certainly not poor. The décor didn’t impress me, but I could tell that effort went into it. We were seated in a booth but saw chairs that looked uncomfortable, including weird swinging chairs. The waterfalls look like only half were working. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and the leftovers. Im giving it 5 stars because this place is underrated.

Catered for a party, the food was excellent, especially the handi goat curry. The food was ready at the requested time, it was packed well so it did not spill in my car. The quantities were more than enough.

LOVED the naan! It was fluffy and buttery. I generally enjoyed the buffet, I found my favorite matter paneer, so I was happy. They had some fried veggie(one looked like mini potato pancakes that I really liked). We ended up ordering drinks, but I realize later we could have gotten by just fine on water. They seated us by a waterfall, which I thought was cool. The waiters came regularly to check on us. I thought the place was upscale… until I went to the bathroom. They had a beautiful glass sink, but you could see the undisguised pipework underneath, and it was not shiny, pretty steel. There was a beautiful faux frosted glass window, but the door stuck and needed to be sanded down.

Very bad customer service: Finished dinner(party of 2 people), went to the reception counter to pay the bill as the guy that served our table was busy with other guests.(We waited for 10 – 15 mins for the check and credit card to be collected from our table) On reaching the reception counter area, we were asked to go back to our seat as they do not take payments from the customers and were told to wait for the person that served us to collect payments Never going back. Bad attitude in treating customers

I am a regular eat in person but recently the food has gone down the dump. This morning I took take out despite telling to make mild it was a) spicier than hell filled with coloring too and b) malai kofta had half container worth oil and was horrible taste. For me this place is out. If south Brunswick and north likewise had more options they would not survive.

Too much coloring in the food. Your fingers are yellow for few days after you eat there. Service is ok. Place could use little more friendlier atmosphere.

Worst Indian food & service in the area. Tandoori chicken too dry… didn’t seem fresh. Lamb biryani too salty/spicy and inedible. When complained, they seemed too busy to care. 18% gratuity automatically added to bill even for a party of 2. Never again! Had better experience at Mirchi & Paradise.

I was a repeating customer during 2010 – 2013 but now since last 2 years the quality of good has gone real DOWN… went back on 10÷9÷2015 and ordered couple of drinks/appetizers/main course and dessert. I would day nothing at all was good. No taste of food. I’m appetizers Punjabi and I like food with taste… I will not be repeating this restaurant ever again.

My boyfriend and I ordered takeout from here one night and went to go pick it up. When we got there, there was a small sign on the door saying that it was closed for a private party and that only takeout was available. That worked out for us anyway but if you’re planning on dining in, you should probably call ahead first. As for the food, I don’t really have anything else to compare it to, being that this was only my second time in life trying Indian food(the first was a really horrible experience so maybe my opinion is a little skewed from that). We ordered the lamb biryani and the chicken tikka masala, which comes with basmati rice. You can also choose your spice level, so we went with medium. Even at medium, the biryani was pretty spicy. But the yogurt sauce it came with definitely helped counter the spiciness. I wasn’t a huge fan because the lamb was pretty gamey. They also used too much spices so I was pretty much picking out the tough to eat ones between each bite. The chicken tikka masala was not bad but it didn’t seem like there was that much chicken in there. I would give Indian food another try — just not at Guru Palace.

Horrible service by Kunal. Food was not fresh. Had to ask multiple times for naan. Would not recommend going here or hosting a party there.

Considering how nice this place is, i expected the food to be spectacular but i was a bit disappointed. My family and I came here for lunch on Mother’s Day, they had their banquet hall setup beautifully with a dozen roses on each table and buffet with tons of options. The service was impeccable, the décor was set to make my mom feel like the queen she is. The food was okay, they had plenty of appetizer options, lunch entrees and desserts to choose from. On Mother’s Day where most restaurants had a 90 minute wait to get a table, they had none as it was practically empty, that was the first sign of what to expect of the food here. But as we were all hungry and did not want to wait, we came here. It was 11 of us, we were seated in the large banquet hall, setup for Mother’s Day buffet. The staff made us feel like we were dining in a five star restaurant. The Paneer Pasanada, Aloo Tiki, Dahi Puri, Pani puri, Mango Lassi and desserts was really good, everything else in my opinion was so so. I wasn’t expecting much considering other reviews on this place but in a pinch, this was good. We enjoyed ourselves and had a good time, that’s all matters. If in the area, will give them another try.

Terrible service… The server refused to serve appetizers on our plates — when we asked for serving he simply said we don’t give that kind of service. The attitude from the server and manager ruined our birthday celebrations.

I’m not the best judge of Indian food but we were pleased with our experience. We came here because I had a groupon and it was local. We ordered the most basic things on the menu but all of the good was fresh and tasty. The waiters were very polite and willing to answer any question we had. The décor was funky and fun. Would be a fun place to attend an Indian party.

Pros: interior decoration/lighting of the place is really good. Food is below average. Service is good Cons: utensils/glasses/plates are not clean. Food is too oily and greasy. The meat had no taste. Tasted extremely refrigerated.

Even though we saw mixed reviews on Unilocal, and received a very poor review from a friend, we decided to go anyway — only because we had a $ 15 for $ 30 Groupon. Immediately, we thought the negative reviews were incorrect. We enjoyed the ambiance, and the appetizers were very good. However, the entrees affirmed the negative reviews we heard about. My GF first ordered the Shrimp Briyani. we turned it back because the shrimp was severely under cooked. She then ordered the vegetable curry, only to find a BUTTON from the chef’s shirt in her curry! They offered a 3rd dish for her, but she was too disgusted. We should have listened to our friend and spent the entirety of the groupon on just naan…

Recently went there for a private party. Really bad experience with management. They apparently had a problem with their heating and decided not to inform the people who threw the party. The result is a freezing cold room with space heaters littered around the area — literally had all the adults and kids in their jackets during the dinner party. The manager really had a «I don’t care, pay me» attitude. They ended up demanding payment as cash in the middle of the party from the hosts. I’ve never heard of anything like that. There was even a comment like, «either you can have a DJ or you can have heat.» The food was ok, and the servers were fine(but seemed very disinterested in their job). Would never recommend anyone to have a party here. I rarely post bad reviews, but this place had it coming.

My friends threw a 25th anniversary party here last night. Party was good, food was good, management was horribly irresponsible. They failed to inform the family that the heat in the hall was not working. All the guests had to keep their coats on the whole time. They tried to remedy the situation by hooking up space heaters that ended up blowing the circuits and turning off the lighting which they tried to blame on the dj’s. The fact of the matter is that they did not take any responsibility for their issues, and the owners were a hassle to work with when we approached them about the issue. I would not reccomend throwing a party at Guru Palace.

Should have gone to Mirchi. Lunch buffet was sub par at best. Goat was not edible loaded with fat and gristle. Water shouldn’t have taste. Naan was gooey. That was after my 3rd request to have some naan. One other thought for the manager, when a customer pays, please put down your cell phone and show some customer service. The only positives: The space is quite nice and comfortable. The buffet does have a large variety of meat and vegetarian options. Won’t be going back.
