I have a theory about people judging automotive places like this on some sort of weird scale. If you want some kind of dealership experience with a more «organized» atmosphere or whatever, go to a dealership and pay those prices.
Dave was great to me. I came in last minute with both my 2003 Jeep and my 2011 Nissan. The Jeep had been through several rounds of sensor checks with other mechanics, the onboard computer system basically had dementia, so the sensor codes haven’t been straightforward for years. And while I always felt like I’d been given the run around by other places, Dave never gave me false expectations or vague explanations about the problem. He even called me personally to follow up on the Jeep, since there was a chance that the repair he did the first time around wouldn’t fix the problem permanently.
Maybe Dave could be interpreted as «neurotic» and «rude» with the delivery of some of his feedback… He looked at me at some point and said, «You gotta put oil in this car more often.» And you know what? He was right! I was well aware that I had neglected my car issues for too long before I ever stepped foot in his business. Would it be fair of me to demand him to kiss my butt, charge me super affordable prices, and magically and easily fix a vehicle he’d never seen before? I’m trying to be understanding here of some of these other reviews, but Dave was nothing but a straight shooter with me. He went above and beyond to communicate, and both my cars are now running smoothly, which is the first time I’ve been able to say that in the last few years.
Yeah, right now the construction on Lankershim blows hard. But guys, just drive around it for goodness sake. It’s worth the slight inconvenience.

The guy David who runs this business is extremely rude. The business is disorganized and doesn’t inspire confidence. Do not go here, try someone else. There are plenty of other options in the area.

Either all the god-​like worshipping reviews of this Dave guy are fake, or they are from his friends and relatives OR the guy forget to take his medications on the day I was in there. Absolutely rude, arrogant, vicious and nasty. Called ME (the customer) names, because I didn’t understand how he flunked my car for a smog test without hooking the car up to his system. Instead of patiently explaining the situation, he tried to charge me $ 5.00 more than the coupon I gave him and he was rude and insulting. I promised I would write a review about his anti-​customer like behavior, so I am doing it. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Besides, with all the construction going on on Lankershim, it’s very hard to get to right now. Try another place.

High Tech Automotive Center is the best place I’ve ever gone to get my car taken care of. Dave the owner has been taking care of my car about 8 months now and he does an excellent job. He knows about cars inside and out and he doesn’t try to rip people off. His mechanics that work under him like Rudy for example are well mannered and know what they are doing. The office is comfortable with wifi and air conditioning and a big screen tv while waiting for your car. Dave also makes sure he gets the highest quality parts for the best price. If you are looking for a mechanic you can trust, High Tech Automotive Center is your place and Dave is your guy!

Dave is really great! He is very passionate and super nice! I can tell he really loves his job! I would recommend him to anyone! He has great guest service and is overall an amazing person!

This has to worst place I been to have service and smog. Dave while very nice, is unorganized. He said come back at 11. I was back at 10:45. At 11 AM or a few minutes after he took somebody else who arrived after I did.
Several times I brought my car in for the same repair. Hundreds of dollars and he couldn’t figure the codes out on my vehicle.
My classic car got all scratched up and didn’t even get s sorry when I pointed it out.
Different mechanics every time I went.
I won’t be going back there.

Few times do you meet a guy like Dave who not only has years and years of experience on all manner of cars from different eras but who is also such a stand-​up guy who always treats his customers honestly, fairly and does his best to help them out and make sure their vehicles are repaired correctly the first time. He’s always going to be upfront with you when there is an issue that really does need special attention or that could be a bigger problem down the road if left alone. He’s also going to be upfront with you when something else might be an overkill solution for the problem you have.
More times than I can count, he has worked with me to rectify various issues over the years on my 23 year old Lexus which I am very attached to. He has always taken very good care of me and I never hesitate to recommend him and his excellent staff to someone looking for a top notch, honest independent mechanic. Sometimes, some the other customer vehicles that come in are quite rare and surprising, too! Everything from all manner of current models to classics and older foreign cars.
Dave genuinely cares about his customers. He and his guys are some of the best and will always set your vehicle right and treat you honestly while doing it.
As a very meticulous car owner myself, I can’t recommend him enough.

This place is great! Super professional and very fast service! I got my 1998 Honda civic smogged here in about 15 minutes and only 35 bucks.

My wife needed a brake and light inspection certificate for the dmv, searched all over the Internet for a good place, searched all over Google maps, and then I finally tried Unilocal,after so many over priced shops and so many bad reviews I’ve read I found this place, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, REALLY FAST AND GREAT PRICES ! I have been coming to Dave whenever I’ve had a problem with my car for a good 5 years now. He is a really nice guy and honest repair man. Consistently does a good job on my car and does so in reasonable time frames and good prices. I recommend this auto shop !!

This was my first time going to this place. Needed a smog, brake and light for my daughter s car. Actually he was supposed to be my second opinion, after being told from another mechanic that my car needed $ 250 worth of work. I couldn’t understand this because my car had no warning lights and ran perfect. Well Mike was honest and smogged my car without extra expense. This guy is fare and honest, I can’t thank Mike enough for being truly one of the last honest mechanics in the area. I have lived here for 20 years and wish I found him a long time ago. Really great service, and really nice employees! They will give you honest rates, and are NOT at all looking to rip you off. I highly recommend using their service for any kind of car issues you may have, whether it be an old car or a new car!!!

This owner writes hate mail through Unilocal in response to my negative review that I wrote 4 years ago. A couple times a year, I get a crazy angry deranged hate message via Unilocal from the owner or one of his buddies. They comment on my review from 2011 (move on people!) and call me stupid and ignorant and other names.
I wish these people would worry less about writing hate messages in response to a negative review that was whole-​heartedly deserved and concentrate more on operating a moral and good business.
Spare me your psychosis and anger.

I have now come to High Tech Auto twice and both experiences were wonderful!
The owner Dave, and the entire staff, were very friendly and helpful. They were pretty busy, but fit me in quickly and Dave kept me updated as they worked. High Tech took care of me both times I was there and for a fair price.
It’s the best repair shop experience I’ve had in the area and I’m thankful to have found such a good shop!

Was in Los Angeles visiting a friend and her car broke down. Thankfully, I was able to contact Dave.
He gave us a fair estimate, explained things to us like we were human beings (and not idiots, although we are ignorant to cars). The service was timely and spot on.

I have been going to Dave as my auto mechanic for almost ten years. He is fair, he has never screwed me over on the price, he’s ethical and a damned nice guy to boot.
I have turned many friends onto him as their go-​to guy for any type of auto service, from engine rebuilds, paint jobs and alignment issues to replacing a rear-​view mirror. Dave and his crew are always professional and never try to over-​charge. This is as good of a shop as you’ll ever find in Los Angeles. The previous reviewer got a lot of things wrong, IMHO.
I’ve trusted High Tech with my vehicles for a long time. Dave is an honest and fair mechanic who runs a clean business. I would send anyone to him, hands down.
