I needed a smog test and found this place based on Unilocal reviews. Still somewhat relatively new to LA, I’m amazed at how freaking expensive smog tests are out here! I went to this place because they had good reviews and a coupon (my total came out to $ 35). I was in and out in about 10 or 15 minutes. They have a small waiting area on the side of their garage so you aren’t standing around which I appreciated. The guy who performed my test was super friendly which was also a plus. If I wasn’t moving soon I would totally come back in 2 years for my next smog test.

Lots of construction on Lankershim, so look for Burger King… ZAP is located in a multi-​auto service garage across the street. I drove up about 3:48 pm and they close at 4:00 pm. What a great find! This garage is neat as a pin, focused on service and the consumate professional in servicing your vehicle. He not only gave me the smog test, but checked under the hood, and mirrored under the car. I’m not sure the motivation on this, but I felt a lot more secure that he did. All in about 10 mins. He zipped the paperwork to me, I paid and that was it. No la-​de-​da. Just focused on professional efficiency with a professional, no-​nonsense, generous service attitude. He got down to the business at-​hand. I came in with a «huff» and left with an «aaahhh». He is now my go-​to for this service. Worth the Lankershim hassel.

I called 3 other places for a prices and his was $ 15 cheaper than the rest. There was one guy ahead of me, and that only took 15 minutes. There was an area in the garage where you can sit. My smog check took less than 15 minutes and I passed YAY! Zaven was the man who helped me and he was super friendly! I will be coming back again! Thanks :-)

WOW ! This is my new go-​to place whenever I need a smog check.
BEST price in town (so cheap)! 2 cars ahead of me, and he got each one done in less than 10 minutes each. He works fast. Super-​clean garage, comfortable waiting area, and HE WAS SO FRIENDLY !!! I can’t rave about this place enough. Don’t bother going anywhere else — THIS IS THE PLACE. For a change, it was a PLEASURE to go get a smog check !

The guy is super friendly and very helpful, I felt very comfortable around him. He worked quickly and sufficiently an had results for me within 20 minutes.
Tons of old magazines (kind of a kick). He also keeps canaries and they are very pretty to listen to.
ZAP is all the way in the back. Don’t waste your time going to the front office of the place because they will just tell you to drive back to ZAP and park there.
The only bad thing: it’s very hot in that garage. Other than that the experience was totally great.

Friendly, efficient, inexpensive. A genuine find. He has a voucher online for $ 24.75 + $ 10 smog certificate. That’s the cheapest I’ve found anywhere. He does t with a smile a chat and has you out in under 15 minutes.
It’s a win with this guy.

We went recently to this place, recommended by another Test Smog place in the area who wasn’t a Star registered one, which we needed.
Once you see America’s tires go in, keep driving. The place is in the back. Zap is nice, serious, does one car at a time. He has a small waiting area. It was one person ahead of was, once he was done with him, he started on our car, did a good job, fast. He also honored a coupon we had for the other place. If you use a credit card he might charge an extra fee $ 1 – 2. The end total was around $ 30. You always get charged extra ($ 10) for the certificate no matter where you go.
But we were in pretty fast, the place is clean, roomier than other ones we have been at and Zap is nice and professional.

I had an awesome experience (if such an adjective can be used to describe a smog test)! I brought in my 1992 Ford Explorasaurus. I was totally worried that my old gal wasn’t going to pass (it was touch and go to the very end). All the while the owner, Zap was positive and supportive. He’s a righteous gentleman that really cares about his shop, his work and while I was there, me. What more can you ask for?
